I don't really know much about exchangeing, and am very nervous about trying to start. However, I have 1.8 + Mil in gold for my Angelic Sash quest.
I am wondering what the best use of my gold and items would be.
My first generation Eis - Hold for later? Or sell and buy later generations? I'm thinking hold since the price seems down.
My inks - Sell now? I have a supply of inks, but I would also like to eventually have the body dyes. The price for inks is probably still good, so I was thinking sell.
I also have Grade F Fishbait I can use or sell, and Tokens, too, but I'm not good at cards.
My Wooden Trunks - Hold or Sell? With the random boxes adding new trunks and giftboxes, I'm thinking the price must be down a bunch.
My random Boxes/Bags - Sell or Hold? Some of the older ones may be getting to a good point to sell now perhaps.
My MCs - Hold or Sell? I have a few extras, but they would be worth more later. I would think that they would go up in price - but those Wild Things I have didn't. xp
My Gaia Cash - Use or Hold? I have $13 + and I'm thinking of getting a Fallen Wish. I try to sell the new EIs when they come out, but I am at work a lot on Fridays when they have the update.
Old MCs like Golden Laurels, Angelic Pendant, etc. - Buy or Wait? I want to know what my best investment for my pure is. Should I get something that is about 2 mil now, or wait and get something like the Angelic Scarf later when I have more? Should I get smaller items like Elegant Veils? What item should I get at either point?
Anyone brave enough to take on my Wall o' Text?

I'm no expert so I'm not going to give you any advice that might like come pack and bite you in the butt, but I'd sell some of those older magical bags and boxes. They are expensive but some are hard to sell. The first gens of EI's deflate when more and more of the other generations get it's final evolution. I would sell since it could be a while before they start to rise in price again, but thats just me.
As for the old MCs, I don't know what to tell you, I usually don't buy any I want the item and I always go go for the most expensive first.

I guess I will have to keep my eyes peeled for the next time I have a first gen EI that hits its final stage.
The urn will probably be big that way.
I got another kelp from the CS because I liked this stage a lot.
I guess I will keep a lookout for a nice time to sell a few of my older boxes/bags.

Disclaimer: all this is free advice, worth what you paid for it and no more. I take no responsibility for any decisions anyone makes based on what I type, because I could very well be dead wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.
I agree with T-mama on the first gen EI's - as later generations complete their evolutions, the price tends to fall. I don't like cash shop items at all for long term investments because Gaia has said they can and will bring back any item from the cash shop at any time. Short term, though, they can be a lot of fun.
Trunks/Giftbox/older random boxes fall like crazy when there's another grab bag item in the cash shop. They've been releasing those about once every oh, what, six weeks? Eight weeks? something like that. Same with any of the older gift box items like the special colored prom dresses, the hats unique to the Infinity Hat, etc. The prices rise in between. Of course, we never know when the next one is coming.
The other thing to watch for is that certain items that had no store value now do - I'm pretty sure they slapped a store value on things like the angelic bed because the grab bags were giving so many of them the value had fallen to where they weren't even selling for 500 gold. With a store value, they've pretty much set a minimum value - but unfortunately, it also tends to put a maximum value on the item in people's minds, even if you can't just buy it any time you want to in the store. So non-store items with store value can get interesting to sell depending on the demand.
Inks: they keep coming out with more things to do with the inks, and the more things you can do with the inks, the bigger the customer base is for them. Prices rise dramatically when something new comes out, so if you're going to sell, this is an item worth timing IMHO.
MCs: long term, they're the category that tends to go up the most. Short term, they are very volatile, and prices go up and down based on what's currently popular. But their prices also reflect the cycles of the MP, some times of the year they're worth more, some times less. Especially the seasonal items.
So it comes down to there are lots of things to consider and no definitive answer. If there were a definitive answer, it wouldn't be called speculation.
The only overarching guideline I know of is that, in general, the longer you hold something, the more it's worth. But sometimes that means holding it for years.

Thank you for stopping by, Purplewiz.
Your advice sounds quite sound.
I am just very unsure of my timing abilities.
That is why I have MP cold feet.
I guess I will sell the ink because it is easy enough to wind up with more of it.

Angel Spirit Girl I am just very unsure of my timing abilities. That is why I have MP cold feet. If you wait until prices have reached their all time high, you will never sell, because as long as Gaia is still running, there is always the chance for prices to go higher. So I'll pass along some advice given me by the former CFO of a major corporation about selling stock in real life: Don't second guess yourself on the price. Be happy with what you got. It's money (gold) you wouldn't have had otherwise.

Not second guessing yourself in the market is good advice.
I guess you just look for an upswing to sell in and go for it.

A lot of advice has already been given, and I tried to read most of it, so I'm hoping I don't repeat anyone...
My advice is to be daring and play the market. It is kind of scary at first, and I've never played with a million gold, but the more money you have, the more you can make.
There's a few big sellers in the market that help you make a lot of gold... EI's and MC's.
Older MC's can jump thousands of gold higher in a mere day, so if you want to take the risk, jump at buying the old MC on a lower price day and sell for a much higher price when it rises again the next day.
The only way you can predict when a price is going to jump is careful observation.
For example, I think the best time lately to buy and sell older MC's is precisely when a new rare box is for sale in the Cash Shop. People who buy rare boxes with real money make A LOT of gold, so they rush to buy older MC's they've been wanting. What happens next? People with the rare MC's increase their prices! So buy an old MC when the next random box comes out and wait a few days and you'll see they'll be worth a lot more!
I think I wrote way too much to even talk about Evolving Items... so I'll save that for next time!
And like purplewiz always says, I have the right to be wrong! =D

I got an angelic pendant, so I only have 150,000 gold now.
Maybe if I keep the pendant a bit I can get a good return on it.
