I've quit FFXI and switched to WoW, only because FFXI didn't work on Vista and I had no choice but to quit.
Anyway, I was at the game store the other day and saw a new FFXI game that had the OP systems XP and Vista. I was wondering if any of you have bought and used this game.
Also, do you think FFXI will ever get a window mode? Or if Windower will work on the new FFXI Vista game?

Idk about windowed mode, but I've just started playing a few days ago and don't have any problem with it on my Vista Ultimate x64 SP1. eek
later
Wait, actually... FFXI DOES have windowed mode... start up the FFXI config from your start menu, and you can set to start in windowed mode there. eek

Hrm..
I suggest going to Squeenix FFXI site and downloading the Vista Play Online startup program - Installation, it also fixes a lot of issues that people have been having with vista. Also if you do this apparently it means that windower can work properly with vista as well. I suggest you always make sure you have the most current most up to date versions of anything before you say it doesn't work (check your windower is the most current version, they just updated it recently. Always be cautious downloading 3rd party software!!!! and remember that Squeenix does not condone 3rd party software..) But as was said *points post up one* there is a window mode.
How do I know all this?? I use FFXI on Vista with no problems.
BTW, I used to play WoW. And after a while you will probarbly find that people are childish, selfish, unforgiving, and mean spirited. Well.. not all people, but that was my experience. Especially once you get to the end game dungeons. Most guilds will expect you to show up for 4 nights a week for end game. They expect you to be on time, and have all consumables necessary. They peer preasure you to perform and to stay up late and over time when you cant, or dont want to. If you dont do what they want to do then you generally get scrapped or benched. and this is in the majority of guilds.

@13thMoonWitch: So there is a "legal" FFXI window mode now? When I used to play, there wasn't one and we all had to use Windower if we wanted a window mode.
@Eiryn Fox: I'm only level 30 right now... I'm just a newb that goes in and out of guilds based on their social factor. People are a bit childish and... well, rather blunt and hasty at times, but the game is still fun. But I do miss FFXI a lot and would trade WoW for it in a heart beat.
So, anyway, you're saying that you installed the original XP version of FFXI and downloaded the Vista-compatable version from the main FFXI website?

Close.
I downloaded and installed the Vista play online etc first, then installed the rest from my XP version.

Neeachi @13thMoonWitch: So there is a "legal" FFXI window mode now? When I used to play, there wasn't one and we all had to use Windower if we wanted a window mode. Well, yes, looks like there is. 3nodding Um, if it's any help, I have the Vana'diel Collection 2008. It took a few hours while the updater downloaded some 6600+ files eek and I've no idea if that had anything to do with Vista compatibility, but I know it works fine. 3nodding (...btw, shouldn't the updater be aware of the OS and set the automatically downloaded files accordingly? confused I mean, if u switched to Vista then installed the prog, it does run a filecheck and updates whatever's needed, or so I'd think anyway, so I don't really get why it was faulty for you. eek )

I've never played FFXI on anyhting but Vista. It has always worked 0_o
And they have had a window mode option for a very long time now. Just run FFXI as administrator when you start it, that should fix 90% of the problems =p

If someone really wanted to play my games then they honestly have to come into my house and play them on my computer. And having to go to preferences and change a program to always run as admin isn't really going to deter anyone from playing them (IMHO) and having to click 50 buttons to start a game that I always do play was getting on my nerves fast.

Thought some might like to know that I cancelled my wow subscription with the intention of never ever ever starting it up again.
WoW honestly sucks. The people on FF have so far been much better to start with. and I hear less of your a f** your gay thats gay totally gayfaggy

On FF then I do on wow. (which I think shows the maturity level of the people who play both games.)
