I have a darling love for magical creatures, I don't know them all, i more than likely never will! But feel free to tell me about your favorite magical creature and why!

I love the Basilisk simply because it's just so unreal in my mind but made such an awesome character in the book and movie!I mean I'd never even heard of anything remotely similiar until Harry Potter!

You know that there are several different...I guess 'interpretations'...of what a Basilisk looks like, right?
You have Rowling's version of giant green snake with killing yellow eyes, and the males are supposed to have a red crest feather.
Then there are versions of slow-moving, cave-dwelling reptiles with six legs and, once again, a killing gaze.
And then there is the cockatrice, a rooster-snake creature, which seems rather similar to the basilisk almost to the point of being considered the same creature.

Another creature/being of myth would be the Gorgon. Medusa was the most famous. The gorgons had snakes for hair and were said to be so ugly, looking at one directly would petrify you.
Similar to the Basilisk, yes?

As for myself, I've always had a soft spot for Dragons, provided of course that they were the intelligent sort, not the mindless, greedy, rampaging brutes some myths cast them as.
Gryffins are awesome, as are Hippogryphs. Come to that, Hippocampi are also great, even though I don't have that much love/adoration for most creatures of the water.
Pegasi/winged horses...unicorns are pretty, even if they lack that sort of savage beauty I like best in many magical creatures.
Heh. In short, I like many, many, many...too many to really list here.

For now, let's leave my favorite at intelligent dragons.
Why?
For one thing, they're dragons. Dragons equal amazing, in form, in strength, in speed...
And how many other mythological creatures can come in just about any form/shape/size/etc? Dragons can have four limbs to stand on and a pair of wings, two limbs to stand on plus a pair of 'arms' plus a pair of wings, two limbs for standing plus only a pair of wings, no standing limbs but with a pair of wings...sheesh, if you really wanted to, you could make a Dragotaur with four standing limbs, two arms, and wings...
They can have any number of horns in any shapes and any placements.
They can be angular, blocky, or circular in basic face and body shapes.
They can look utterly cute or utterly terrifying, depending on age, temperment, and artist.
Some dragons breathe fire, some breathe ice, acid, lightning, scalding water, and more.
Very versatile creatures.

Intelligent, because the stupid-rampaging-beast got old around story plot number five centering on it. Also because I feel the most respect for creatures that have a brain in their heads and can use it, especially if they use it for efforts other than senseless killing/rampaging/taking over control of the world/other things possible through enough brute force alone.

My current favorite are centaurs (I'm thinking that my next avatar will be a centaur ^_^). I like human-headed beasts, as my second favorite is the human-headed bird: ba-bird or harpie (and my third is the sphinx XP). I love how Rowling potrays the centaurs.. they are wiser, more tolerant, and level-minded than the humans. And although they had a reputation for being violent, it didn't seem like they were very rash-infact they seemed quite moral to me.
That they practice Diviniation and stargaze is also cool to me, I've been interested in such since I was young.
I also think it's funny that ancient people thought that others riding horses were centaurs.

I rather like the Basilisk and it's true I didn't know that there were different versions of a Basilisk! I mean I've done simple searches on them but most of the time J.K. Rowling was all that came up.

I also happen to like the Phoenix because it does have so many differences in appearance abilities and so on.

My favourite magical creature are dragons. They are magnificent, intelligent creatures. In one of the books I've read the dragon was also had a bit of a cheek on her, unusual for a dragon, but made her a better character... this was a talking dragon, which I also prefer.

My favorite creature is probably a Hippogriff, because there the most fantastic beasts iave ever heard of. I love how they are extremly lovable yet they can be completely harmful at the same time. They are awesome.

Did you know that Hippogriffs are supposed to be symbols of the most powerful love?

It's true.

According to Greek legend, Hippogriffs are the offspring of a Griffon and a horse.
Horses are the favored prey of Griffons.
So for a Hippogriff to be born, a Griffon and a horse would have to be so strongly attracted to each other that they could overcome their normal predator/prey relationship.

Was the book Eragon, and the dragon named Saphira, by any chance?

Nope, the book was Wizard's First Rule and the dragon was Scarlet.

I love centaurs the most. Not Bluerain's version. But the heroic ones portrayed in The Chronicles of Narnia. I feel they are really very brave. And I also like their weapons. They usually use the bow and arrow. Woosh. It's like so cool. ^^

2nd would be dragons. I went crazy over dragons a few months ago. I have this friend who also like fantasy and he introduced some books to me. 2 had dragons as their central character and I thought, "Dragons are cool!" I finished the two books of dragons and also finish reading the whole school library's supply of dragon books.

Of course basilisks, centaurs, and dragons are my favorite out of the bunch, but there are so many more creatures that are really cool. I mean, come on, merpeople are pretty spiffy too (:

I don't really have a favorite magical creature. If I have to choose, I would say a fairy. You can tell that by my name.

Goblins would have to be my favourite mythological creatures. Sure, they often tend to be pretty nasty and awkward, but they almost always vary in shape size and culture in different myths and stories. It's fascinating!
