Hi everyone. Lately, I've been pretty curious about the results of the election this year. Right now, the polls are about 46/46 for both Obama and McCain. What do you think will happen? Who would you vote for based on their ideas and beliefs?

I know this is a really controversial topic, but I do support debate. Of course, no flamming and the usual rules still need to be followed.

[EDIT: You don't have to choose from just between Obama and McCain, there are other parties running as well. In the poll, 'Other' means the multiple other parties besides Democratic and Republican. I hope this clears up some confusion.]

People shouldn't just vote for McCain or Obama because they represent the major parties. They should vote for whoever will run the country best! I personally think that Mickey Mouse would make a better president. He's old enough, you know...

Haha, I agree with Elphie(is that right? is that you? o_O). I don't like either candidate. I don't agree with most of McCain's social policies.. I'm pro-choice, anti-death penalty, pro-equal rights, and am against spying on Americans, and the drug war(let's face it.. 90% of the world's opium poppies are found in Afghanistan... if we wanted to, the fields could be burned, mind you it's a percentage that has dramatically increased since we overthrew the Taliban). I agree with staying in Iraq longer simply because I think we haven't prepared the Iraqis to deal with their own country... it's not really so much a matter of American honor, though I don't think leaving a country in socio-political turmoil is going to help with our image. I'm also against affirmative action... I'm pro-more equal distribution of tax money.
I don't trust Obama at all, he talks out two sides of his mouth(his NAFTA canoodling with Canada), most of it just to get people riled up. He's a great speaker, but I don't believe him. I also think he'll end up being much more conservative in office than he lets on. I don't like his personal connections with Chicago slum landlord Tony Rezko, buying a house from him in `05, but sure he gave money he got for his campaign to charity- it's the same thing as what happened with his pastor.. someone you know for nearly a decade, closely, you didn't know that they were shady or an anti-Semetic? I think the media attempts to paint Obama as a saint and immediately forgives everything he has done wrong, as if it's a misunderstanding. Obama's very charming but that doesn't mean he is honest.
Pretty much, I think we're screwed for the next 4 years, and I don't want to vote because I don't want either candidate, and the one I would prefer over the other, Obama, is going to win in NY anyway.

This might be an aweful way of thinking about it, but between the two of them you might get a full term. I think if Obama gets into office he'll be assianated. And if McCain gets into office he'll die from strange disease from travel, So I'm voting on Vp's. I like Palin.

I don't have to worry about that because I live in Australia... though we recently had state elections and the party I absolutely did not want to get in got in.

Like you I'm pro-choice, anti-death penalty, pro-equal rights, and I am against spying on Americans [invasion of privacy] and the Multiple Names War. I'm also against affirmative action (and I'm a minority)

However I think we need to get out of the war as soon as safely possible, and I trust in Obama. As bad as the whole situation is (America basically made Iraq worse in my opinion), I'm not seeing any progress in the war because I'm not comprehending who we're fighting in Iraq, but there's still loss of lives everyday. As far as Obama goes, at this point there's not really much more you can do but just trust someone to take us out of the old game of politics we've had for the past 2 presidential terms, and he's saying the right things and trusting him is better than the alternative. I'm all for change

Well, I now live in New Zealand, so it doesn't really apply to me anymore. However, I'm still a US citizen and lived there until about 6 weeks ago. I wouldn't have been old enough to vote by the time elections came around, but I was rooting for Obama, for reasons already stated by others.

If Sarah Palin is elected it will be the most abominable thing to ever happen to the fractured world of American Government. The woman was a BEAUTY QUEEN, not a leader. She got to the top in Alaska by backstabbing and betraying the people who helped get her there. Have you ever heard her say anything that sounded like it really was her idea? That McCain hadn't prompted her? I didn't think so. The thought of that spiteful wretched woman as leader of the free-world makes me sick.

But on the less serious side, I think part of the major reason I don't like her are her frumpy clothes, her grandma glasses, her naueseating out of the box highlights and that terrible dated beehive mess she calls hair.

What has America come to??

I wanted to vote for Obama. But seeing that I'm not old enough and I'm not an American citizen...

I like his views on the changes etc. (This is probably similar to many people) And he's black. I believe that the native Americans should be like Obama and stand up for themselves. I mean, they are NATIVE Americans. They shouldn't be suppressed by the whites. Umm... And I'm not bias against the whites. I'm taking a neutral stand on this.

Anyway, I found this quiz. You can try taking it!

Obama or McCain?

I can't vote in the elections, since I'm from Canada, but if I could, I'd vote for Obama. His political agenda sounds reasonable, and his speeches are very nice indeed. I think he'd be good for The United States.

Is it just me, or is Palin stumbling through this campaign like a giant train wreck? She's already in hot water for that scandal in Alaska which doesn't seem to be getting any better btw. She seems to have no idea about foreign policy except that she said she lives next to Russia so she knows Russia apparently O_o' and she got through the vice presidential debate with just an "okay" in my book.

I'm not so sure McCain got himself a worthy vice partner. I want to be insured that if for whatever reason a president McCain dies, his successor will be able to get the job done. Palin doesn't cut it for me.

What about McCain attracts you?? [A person can dislike someone and not jump to race.... I don't like Obama because he's black; I like him because I think he's the best option for us.] It's hard not to think things because you didn't really give reasons for anything...not that you have to

I vote for Obama because the world needs a change. McCain would just be another Bush. The country is already bad as it is.
