i was trying to help out my friend who is in a punk (like real punk not that girly emo stuff) band called Ammo (never heard of em? Neither have I until two days ago.)
well anyway, he needed help writing music because he sucks at writing tabs and music notation and what not. His friend who is the drummer said he'd help out with the drum stuff since I only know piano and guitar. BUT sadly the kid has no creativity whatsoever.
Any songs with a cool rhythm you know of?
I guess I'll try to alter the beats of them a bit to make it sound more original. stare <--expression on face every day I see the kid and he bothers me about how the song is going.

I've figured out the best way to write for a band, is make a song yourself and then show it to them. Just make a complete song, and then get their input.
Odds are, they'll change it for the better. That's how I always did it, and people loved my band ;]
Just write what you want.
I'm pretty sure I repeated myself like... 4 times in that XD

Well... let me give some suggestions. Since he's in a punk band, listen to a lot of punk music, and write down everything you like about it. Memorize that list, and use it to check off whenever you like a song. If you like power chords, when you make your songs thrown some in (always tastefully, not needlessly) and check it off your mental checklist. Well, that's one way to do it. Another would be to come up with a genearl idea. Put together a few chords (power or not w/e. it's cool when you mix em up btw) and record yourself playing over and over them again. Come up with what you will most likely play the most over the song, the riff of the song. That should get you going. From there the total creative input from your team should help you out. If it's just really not working, cover songs, but make them your own by making little twist. I was in a "band" with me on guitar and my buddy on drums. I would come up with a riff or a chord progression, then he would drum to it, then i would base what i play next off of his drumming, and we would evolve the song we were playing. If we hit something gold, we would stop, tweak it, then record it with a cellphone (yep, it we was a broke a** band). Good stuff. Tell me how it goes.

While this might sound rude and unhelpful, when writing music, you have to write what YOU want to hear, thats what makes music fun. Writing music for someone else really isn't going to help him be creative. Give him some ideas, but don't write it for him. If you write music for him, he'll never learn how to do it on his own. Thats really the best information I can give you.

I'm pretty sure I repeated myself like... 4 times in that XD Haha sick man, I actually just jam with my band, or individual members of the band. Its all about compromise, and compatability. My band mates all share a similar taste in music aswell, and man we all write very similar things. If it isn't similar we all like it anyways.
