Jono stuck his nose into the smelly, disgusting pile of filth that was called a dumpster. Usually humans threw away very interesting things. Sometimes food, sometimes trinkets, and sometimes gadgets that made funny sounds and short circuited. He sometimes saw kats running off from stuff from the dumpster. So to cure himself of some boredom, the mutant raptor was investigating it, despite his discomfort of being near smelly filth. He would have to take a bath afterwards. There was a half filled pool nearby. That would do.

He was located by a human home someway outside of Neo York. Jono was one of the kinds of kimera that liked to lurk around its edges and take in the benefits that lurked around it. Jono took his nose out and shook his head to rid himself of the banana peel that got on his nose. "I don't understand kats... "

~Our innocence is a virtue
But our arrogance will only leave us blind,
Unattended
Without anyone to save our idle lives
Will we find out
That everything we know exists inside
Of a fraction of a fraction
And one by one the pieces fall again~

A distinctly feminine voice seemed to echo amongst the ruined rooftops on the outskirts of Neo York. The voice sing-songed, slightly out of key, not enough to pass judgment but instead draw a crooked smile from the owner of the voice. It was during a routine sweep above that keen yellow eyes caught a peculiar sight below. A large kimera, currently unidentifiable, snooping about in the remnants of human stuff. Not bothering to fight off the sudden pang of curiosity she tilted her wings and banked wide out of view before circling and sweeping down lower.

Making sure to clear the ruined and jagged rooftops, she found a decent perch, namely an old flagpole stretching out perpendicular from a still standing wall a couple of yards above the unknown raptor. Situating herself she leaned forward as if trying to glance over the other's shoulder. Once balanced she tucked her wings behind her and resorted to subtle shifts of her feet to keep herself from tumbling.

"Whatcha up to?" She felt little need to announce herself as her arrival had been rather loud, the metal pole still creaking ominously under her weight. With a flick of her tail she tilted her head to the side curiously, as if fidgeting would give her an answer quicker.

The banana peel slid the rest of the way off as the mutant raptor turned his attention to look at the griffin that was perched on the flag pole. His front eyes blinked, with his back eyes soon following. "Well, certainly not eating that's for sure. Too smelly. I was bored so I decided to entertain myself like a stray kat. Didn't work too well..." He frowned and shook his head again. "I'm going to be smelly rotten fish for weeks now." The raptor stepped further away from the dumpster and a little closer to the griffin. "Heh, you live close by to here? Living near the human city is interesting..."

He smiled at the griffin. She looked very colorful which he liked a lot. It had been a while since he had seen a kimera this pretty. All the sneaking around made it a bit harder for him to communicate with other kimera. The only kimera he ever saw more than once was a certain quzetal who held an obsessive interest in humans.

Kurenai found herself having a hard time placing the creature before her. He certainly looked like a raptor...but not any raptor she'd seen before. Those she'd seen were smaller with fur...and they certainly weren't spiky and they definitely didn't have 4 eyes. She didn't think of herself as very perceptive, but a trait like that was hard to miss. These thoughts did little to influence her in the end though. Appearances, no matter how bizarre or menacing, held little merit in this world full of strange creatures. He seemed amiable enough, and didn't attack her on sight, which meant things were going pretty well in her book.

"The smell could be used to your advantage...that is if katt is part of your usual cuisine. You won't have to look very far at least." A faint knowing grin wove it's way onto her features as she nodded, crouching down and arching her neck a little lower. "Worst comes to worst I could follow you around for a few days and keep the parade of katts that's bound to follow you...in check." She leaned back again before she could disrupt her balance and shifted her wings to help in the endeavor.

"I really don't live anywhere in particular. I travel and sleep wherever the wind takes me. However I'd been known to stop on occasion if the company proves interesting enough." Leaning down again she winked playfully at the other kimera, a short clip of laughter ringing from her beak.

The thought of having food come to him was tempting, but the raptor couldn't take the smell very well. He looked over at the nearby, half filled pool. "I think I'll pass. Only because this smell is becoming unbareable to me...." He paused for a moment to smile at the other. "If you find me interesting enough you can follow me for a while I guess. You seem friendly. I doubt I'll hold your interest for too long though..." He laughed and moved over to the pool, and moved into it to wash himself off. Seems like he wouldn't be getting any free kats. Shame. Oh well. He was more of a dog person anyway.

"Travel huh? I used to do a bit of that with someone close to me. Haven't been able to bring myself to move around too much since we departed from one another though. It sure was fun back then though...." He slipped out of the pool, getting out with ease. "Names Jono by the way, if I haven't mentioned it..."

((For the record Kurenai doesn't walk properly, she bounces around like you see smaller birds do. She isn't hyperactive or anything...XD))

"Awwww..." Kurenai gave a clearly fake pout when the larger kimera slipped into the water. "Well there goes my easy meal ticket then. I'll actually have to hunt tonight like the rest of the population tonight." She bounced slightly, her perch gave a creak of a warning before she hopped off, not even using her wings as she landed with a small 'thud.' She pitched forward a moment as she lost he balance but quickly regained it and continued to hop over towards the raptor. "Nonsense, my four-eyed friend~ You haven't tried to eat me yet and we're having a civilized conversation, so at the moment you're absolutely fascinating in my book." She nodded vigorously.

"Traveling is the only thing I really know, but it does get a little lonely on occasion. Traveling in groups, or even pairs is infinitely better." Her tail gave a thoughtful swish, but she decided on not pressing the issue farther. "It's a pleasure, Jono. My name is Kurenai, but if it tangles your tongue up like many before you, feel free to shorten it."

(( 83 Okay. I can picture that. <3 ))

Jono moved a step closer to the griffin out of curiousity. Her colorful feathers really were a refreshing sight. The city was so dark and depressing. The colors reminded him of his original "home". He laughed. "You talk like all kimera are homocidal or something. Anyway, I tried crow once. White meat doesn't suit my taste." He chuckled and tilted his head to the side. "Kurenai, huh? I think I can deal with it, but I can think of a nickname if you would like me too."

Traveling... it ha been something he had debated on for a while. Traveling was such a wonderful, exciting thing and his life was currently so dull. Yet, it also brought back some painful memories for him. The four eyes raptor shook his head to stop himself from considering such a thing. "Well, if you're so hungry, Kurenai, we can go hunting. These teeth of mine aren't just for making me look good after all." He chuckled.

"Well, from what I've seen lately, that would be an accurate assumption." She deadpanned, eyes narrowed at the thought. "Why just the other day I had my hunt disturbed by this huge coppery griffin. At first I thought he was trying to steal my lunch but it turns out he wanted ME for lunch." She puffed up indignantly. "Not only are they homicidal, they've turned cannibalistic." She huffed and bounced around Jono a bit. "Oh please," She flicked the tip of her wing in front of his face gently. "I'd taste muuuuch better than crow, honey! Not that you should be getting any ideas or anything..." She narrowed her eyes and stared at him for a moment. However the irony of her previous statement was not lost on her and soon she dropped the act and dissolved into another small fit of laughter.

"Eh~" She perked up a bit. "Nicknames are fun, go right ahead. I'd give you one but you're name is lacking in syllables...though I guess I could call you Jo...Jon sounds kinda weird...'ono doesn't sound too bad either..." She allowed herself to ramble on a bit as her companion grew silent for some reason. She wouldn't pry, but as long as she continued to talk it wouldn't get awkward, and nobody liked awkward. When it seemed he was back to himself he offered her something she wouldn't in her right mind refuse. "A hunt? Sounds good to me, my friend." She paused for a moment at his declaration and couldn't hide a tiny grin. "Well...I dunno...they could be plastic or something. I'll have to wait to see them in action, yes?"

"Guess so. Just have to witness what they can do for yourself." He winked and chuckled. He hadn't hunted with someone else in a long time. Having decent company again sounded nice. Kurenai did have a point on one thing after all, the kimera around him did seem to get a bit crazier.

"I wouldn't be telling me you're better than that crow that if I were you by the way, Nai. You never know when we could be trapped in a room together, starving, and you're the only one there for a possible menu choice," He said, jokingly while trying to test out a nickname. He doubted he would ever go so insane. "Anyway... I think I know a nice spot in a woods nearby to hunt around. Would you like to search there?"

"Shouldn't be much of a problem then, this is one griffin you won't find in an enclosed space if she has any say in the matter. Though fascinating they may be, those two-leggers have horrible taste in dens. Not to mention how crowded they must be. Gimme a nice big tree any day of the week!" The smaller kimera piped as she bounced around a bit.

"But that's only if you win." She grinned and narrowed her eyes slightly. "Size doesn't mean everyth-...." She bounced up closer to the other kimera as if finally noticing the large difference as the raptor seemed to tower over her by a good foot. "Ya know...maybe I should just keep my beak shut for now so I don't end up on the menu anyways...?" For a split second she looked nervous, but her acting skills failed in again and she dissolved into more laughter.

"Hmmmm~ Sounds like a plan to me. It's a bit difficult to hunt near all these buildings for me. Unless of course you'd find it amusing to watch me bounce after food, or crash into buildings." She paused. "But I digress! Lead the way~"

Jono laughed a bit at her reaction as if he were laughing along with her. She actually became afraid by his words or at least she had been or seemed to be. It was an amusing reaction for him to see. His tail twitched before is curled up in front of him. "Yes, smart choice. Never know when one might lose their mind after all..." He said as he leaned his head down closer to hers, just to poke at the joke just once more. It couldn't be helped.

"No, seriously, don't worry much about it. I've learned to take care of myself well enough that the likely hood I'd get us into such a situation is slim. I doubt you'd want to hang around long enough for something crazy like that to happen..." He did a gesture that might have been considered a human shrug.

"Food... Hm~ Yes. Were agreed..." His tongue came up and liked his lips. Food was sounding better by the second. "I'll lead the way then...." He turned around to his left and started casually heading off.

"Good to know, definitely good to know." She concluded soberly...before breaking out into a grin once more.

"Yes captain~! Please do!" She straightened herself out and in a failed attempt of a salute, accidentally clocked herself in the forehead with her own wing. She stared after him in a daze for a few moments before shaking the stars from her eyes and bounced after. After gaining enough momentum she took a huge leap into the air, her wings unfurling and flapping rhythmically at her sides to keep her aloft. It took her little time to catch up and she soon passed him by, keeping low to the ground about eye level, as she soared by. "Hey....wanna race?" She proposed suddenly before banking up and to the right, rising on a quick updraft.

In hindsight, it was probably wise to know where they were going before proposing such a thing...but that was never something this griffin specialized in...or ever would.

The raptor watched the griffin fly around with his two pairs of eyes. He held back a snicker. It was kind of weird to have a flying creature fly around him. He'd usually assume birds would be a bit more nervous of being around a big carnivore like him, or at least fly a bit higher above his jaw until she knew him better. Ah well, he liked being trusted. Friends were made with trust. "Race? Sounds fun. Heh. I could go for that..." He frowned when something hit him. He could win that race easily, wingless or not. Did she want tough competition or soemthing? "You don't know the way though. You sure you really want to race? I'll have an advantage or we could get separated...." He paused. Perhaps that's what she wanted. To get away from him so he would not danger her. That possibility made him a little sad. He had been thinking they could be friends. Hopefully, that wasn't the case. She wasn't the type to trick him, was she?

Little did Jono know was that this particular griffin was about as good as deception as she was at lying. The ability was practically non-existent.

"Heehee~" Her grin could almost be heard as she swooped back down like a pendulum, remaining high enough to not loose her current draft but low enough that she didn't have to yell. "And there in lies the fun my sharp-toothed friend~ To an under-dog, victory is oh-so much sweeter. Plus if you lose, you never expected to win in the first place, so there is really no loss." Kurenai nodded, probably more times then necessary as she swayed back up to the side. Sure enough, she reached a certain height before swaying back down, like a living pendulum. "Seperated? Bah! It might not show but I'm a good tracker~! It'll take more then a few trees to hide you from these eyes!" Not even bothering to mask her mirth as she swayed back up to the other side.

Kurenai wouldn't know a conniving thought if it blind-sided her like the building she flew into earlier this morning.

Jono smiled again, finding her words encouraging. She seemed like a nice griffin. He was silly to think she would run away… If she wanted to all she had to do was fly, right? "Alright, if you're sure, but if you do get separated don't hesitate to call out for me. I can come find you and we continue the race after we meet up." His four eyes watched her swoop around and he tried to muffle a chuckle. She was fun for him to watch. Was she always so filled up with energy? "So now to figure out the starting line... Is here good for you or shall we move a little?" He tilted his head to the side and blinked a few times. Watching her was not only amusing; it made him sort of dizzy too...
