Delmor's local stopping point for the recently-departed. The Dusinane Funerary Home is a three-story house painted in a shade of greyish lavender, with a sign proclaiming its name on the green lawn. The Dusinanes have been in the funerary business for ten generations, and live above their business... currently, that is Andrew Dusinane, Mary Dusinane, and their daughter Rebecca. It has an excellent reputation, and the Dusinanes are very proud of it.

User ImageThe tranquility of the funeral home was broken by the guttural sounds of a mechanical beast. Mariana sped up as she tore across the pavement, her hair flowing in the breeze. She hit a hard turn and slammed on the brakes, forcing her bike to drift sideways until it came to a complete stop, parked perpendicularly in a handicapped spot. She hopped off and locked it down before walking up to the place of business. Resting her shoulders on the door frame, she gazed off toward the horizon and took a few deep breaths of the cool afternoon air.

Now, let's see what this kid's made of, she thought to herself, her mind already surveying the potential that the boy--and this location--had.

Matt turned a corner too see that Mary had finally stopped and gotten off her bike. He returned his perception of time back to normal and the world sped up. He came to a stop in front of the building and bent at the waist putting his hands on his knees. His breathing was labored. Matt was not used to running for such a long distance, fencing encouraged short distance running which made Matt not too good at managing long distances. "You know you could have waited," Matt asked Mary pausing every couple of words to take of breath.

User ImageMariana raised an eyebrow as Matt came speeding up to her. He didn't RUN all this way, did he? No way he could've, she thought dismissively. Then again, this IS Delmor... heh, he just might come in handy. Let's see if he has the stomach first, though.

"About time ye got here!" she exclaimed cheekily. "You look dead on your feet! We should go get you cleaned up first. Hopefully this place has a sink in it." She slung his arm over her shoulder and helped him inside. "Heh, you shouldn't exert yourself too much. That's a quick way to burn yourself out. No need to put yourself in the grave too soon."

She hobbled over to the counter and rang the bell. She was hoping to see a familiar face or two come to the desk; she'd been here a few times before and made some rather morbid purchases, so she'd be able to get good service here. But, her patience was never very good, so she slipped his arm off. "Lemme see if I can go get us someone to help. I think there's a restroom back to the left," she pondered aloud, pointing to a somber hallway. With that, she vaulted over the desk and went off to find an employee.

Matt must have been really tired because what happened next seemed like a blur. Mary came up to him and said something then slung his arm over her shoulder and led him inside. Then she said something about an employee and lept over the counter and walked down the hallway behind it. Matt opened his eyes wide then shook his head planting one hand on the counter too keep himself upright. He carefully looked around the room, it was kinda cheery in a strange way but whatever. I wonder what this place is anyway, he thought too himself as he noticed a pair of chairs by one wall. He stood up straight and made his way over too them. About half way one of his feet tripped on nothing and he fell, putting his arms out to stop himself. "Okay, I'm really out of it," he mumbled as he got up and finished getting over too the chair. He sat down with a relieved expression on his face.

Matt let out a quick sigh. He was starting to feel better, but where was that Mary chick. He stood up from the chair and hobbled over to the front desk. "Hey, Mary, what's taking you so long?" he asked, half shouting. This chick was kinda weird so he wouldn't be surprised if she ditched him.

User ImageMariana walked around the back rooms of the funeral home, ignoring the "employees only" signs along her way. Huh... looks dead in here, she ironically observed. Wasn't there a girl from my class who lived here? After about ten minutes of wandering around, she gave up and headed back down to the showroom. A fun little thought crossed her mind as she saw the recuperating boy leaning over the counter.

"Well, looks like the coast is clear. Come on, I gotta show ya somethin'!" She leaped over the front desk and ran into a room full of coffins on display. She looked around and found a metallic teal number with some metal clasps on the side. It looked fairly heavy for its size, and the inside looked well-padded and comfortable. She threw the lid wide open and turned to Matt, a bemused grin on her face.

"Oi, you look like you could use a nap. Wanna try?" she giggled.

Matt leaned over the counter to take a look at what Mary was doing. He didn't get much of an idea, he only saw the room she went in. So he slowly crawled on top of the counter and jumped down on the other side. The place looked empty so he wasn't worried about the rules.
He walked into the room that Mary was in. She had mentioned something about a nap and now that Matt was seeing what she was standing next too her intentions seemed a little clearer. "The only thing that is coming to my mind right now is dirt nap, so I'm gonna pass," Matt replied sighing. This chick is crazy, that's what Matt's head was screaming but he kept a calm exterior.

User ImageMariana pouted. "Aww, you're no fun! C'mon, it's perfectly safe!" With this, she hopped into the coffin and closed the lower half, leaning over the open top. "See? It's nice an' comfy in here."

She watched Matt walk in, his face oddly calm. For a moment, she thought she saw a bit of hesitation in his eyes, but it quickly passed if it was there. "Look, back in the olden days, people were buried alive all the time. So, they put in a bunch o' safeguards so the poor saps could escape. Nowadays we can tell whether people are dead or not, but the safeguards are still in there. You'll be just fine."

Mariana leaned back and crossed her arms, staring intently into Matt's eyes.

The eyes are the window to the soul, the phrase popped up into Matt's mind. Ok, ok, calm down, if you keep freaking out she's gonna figure out that your freaking out, he reassured himself. He started to calm down inside. He did the best to keep his exterior the same though if someone was looking for it they would see Matt's shoulders lower slightly.
"Safety features? Whatever you say," Matt said quickly walking over to the casket. He reached a hand inside and felt the upholstry, "Have you ever wondered why they make the dead so comfortable? I always found it kinda weird." he continued keeping an eye on Mary just to make sure she didn't try and push him in or close it on his fingers, you never do know.

User ImageA grin spread across Mariana's face. She slickly spoke, "Now that's an interesting thought. I've never thought about it before."

Heh, the kid's startin' to use his head now, she thought, clearly pleased with this new development. He might not be hopeless after all.

"Hmm... I suppose it's more for the comfort of the survivors. If my old man were dead, I couldn't bear the thought of him sittin' in some wood-and-metal box to rot away. Having all that padding on the sides would make it seem less sterile and harsh. Then again, I haven't lost anyone, so I can only guess."

She pushed back the lower half of her coffin lid and hopped out. She walked a few feet away and watched Matt while just out of range of the coffin he was expecting. With the patient stare of a hawk, she monitored Matt closely, staring into his eyes. "So," she said, "what do you think?"

"Me? I'm thinking you've got the right idea. Not that I agree with it, it seems like humanity are just flocks of sheep run by their emotions. They'll call something harsh or wrong just because it rubs them the wrong way, without any backup at all. It's pretty sad if you ask me," Matt responded as if he had thought about the topic many times. When he finished he rubbed the back of his head and smiled. "Haha, this stuff's a little too deep for me to think about for too long. So why did you bring me to a funeral place anyway?" he continued. He seemed to be lightening up a great deal.

User Image"Well," she replied, herself lost in thought, "sometimes being around death makes people introspective. It gets their thoughts flowing. Sometimes I come here, or any number of places around town, just to think. Sometimes the boys join me."

Maia flicked a couple crescent-shaped locks of crimson hair behind her ear. "Also, I was hopin' to see what kind o' stuff you're made of. You seem kinda relaxed now, but I wanna see how you handle the fun parts." A mischevious grin spread across Mariana's face. "By the way, you sure you don't want to take a nap? You may need the energy..."

"Pfft!" Matt replied flexing both his arms in a cliche way, "No way, real men don't need rest, ha! Just kidding." He started laughing then continued. "Ha, I'm a little tired but I'll survive, plus I'm really don't feel like sleeping in this place, it's kinda creepy." Wow, I totally just contradicted myself, eh whatever it's all good, he thought to himself.

User ImageMariana watched the superficial display of bravado with disinterest. She lifted an eyebrow and crossed her arms. "Really?" she said dubiously, some slight excitement hiding subtly in her voice. "Then this should be more interesting than I thought."

She walked into another showroom, this one full of small memorial trinkets and ash-boxes. Her eye shot around the room, noting immediately the exits and security cameras. "See anything you like?" she asked casually, placing one hand on a nearby shelf and glancing briefly over her shoulder at the less-comfortable boy.
