Helaku stared at the sea in wonder. It was so big! Did it ever end? Part of him longed to approach, to touch the water, taste it and see if it was fresh, but the rest of him was terrified, and screamed at him to retreat, to turn his head and run! He knew he would regret it, however, and always wonder what it would be like to touch that vast endless expanse. He had heard strange stories about the sea; some said the water was not fresh, and only served to make one thirsty, but staring at the sea, he had trouble believing that something so vast and wonderful and beautiful could be anything other than clean and pure.

Lughnasadh trotted toward the seashore, intent on taking a bath, when he saw a rainbow stallion, a Star, he knew in his heart, an Arcturus like Vienna, Gwen, and Ista. Curious, he slowed to a walk and called out, "Hello, there! You must be new to these parts! What's your name?"

Helaku started, unaware that there were any other stars in the area. "H-H-Helaku, sir," he stuttered. He eyed the stallion warily, noted his strength and good health. He did not look particularly aggressive, however, and Helaku relaxed, but only slightly. "And... you? Your name? I mean..." He closed his eyes. It had been a while since he had last seen other stars, how was this supposed to go? Deep breaths. In, out. In. He opened his eyes once more. "Do you live here?" he asked. "Near the ocean? Is it true what they say? That it never ends, not ever?"

It was rare that Poison Ivy was allowed time for true leisure for there seemed to be a constant stream of calls from the earth. And yet, when the anticipated lull did finally come, Ivy was not certain what to do with herself. She was so used to running hither and thither, tending to plants and her small group of companions that she found herself seeking things to do in what should have been her time for rest. It was this need to do something that had finally driven her to Lughnasadh’s territory with the intent of “sprucing it up.”

Spying two Fallen up ahead, Ivy slowed her gait. She recognized one of the two stallions immediately: Lughnasadh. She felt better about meeting him this time, for her appearance was less unruly; she had only thin layer of mud caking her hooves, nothing more. The other stallion’s appearance made Ivy pause for a moment, so that she could better admire his colors. Although her thoughts were often bent towards plants, she was able to admire all her surroundings, and rainbows were no exception.

“ ‘tis a joy to meet again, Lughnasadh!”

Lughnasadh turned his head and called out, "And it's a pleasure to see you again, too, Ivy!" He turned back to Helaku.

"As you could probably guess, my name is Lughnasadh. This is where my herd lives, yes. I don't honestly know whether the ocean has an end or not, Helaku, but I'm sure you could ask a friendly Nova, and they'd be delighted to answer your question."

Helaku turned as the new star spoke and stared. Plants! She had plants wrapped around her legs, her tail, even her neck! How strange. She seemed friendly enough, however, and he smiled, easily distracted. It wasn't until the other star - Lughnasadh? - started speaking once more that he managed to pull himself away from this new mystery.

"Oh! I'm awfully sorry, sir," he said, "I didn't mean to trespass on your territory! And a Nova? Yes," he mused, "I think I might ask one of them."

Ivy trotted up to the two, nodding her head towards Lughnasadh once she came along side him. She had parts of the conversation, but one part in particular caught her attention.

“ Nova? I’ve yet to have the pleasure to meet a Nova. Hopefully you shall be fortunate then I in that regard.” It wasn’t until then that she remembered that she had yet to introduce herself. “ My apologies for so rudely interrupting your conversation. My name is Poison Ivy, though Ivy will suffice. Might I inquire what your name is?”

Lughnasadh smiled. "Don't worry, I don't mind other Stars wandering through, as long as they don't hurt my herd. I haven't seen a Nova yet, either, but I've heard a lot about them." He turned to Ivy. "It's fine, Ivy, I don't mind."

"I-I-I'm Helaku," Helaku managed to get out at last. Up close, this... Poison Ivy was truly awe inspiringr. Did she belong to the same herd as Lughnasadh? No, she had said it was a pleasure to meet again... so a different herd. That boded well; Lughnasadh truly didn't mind if other stars wandered through. "I, too, have never seen a nova," he added shyly.

“ I wonder, what fortune or chance brings you two to this particular place? I have come here for a reason, but I doubt my reason is shared by the both of you.”

"I came down to take a nice, refreshing swim in the water," Lughnasadh said, smiling.

"I-I'm a wanderer," said Helaku. "I have no home, and... and I've never seen the sea. I thought it might be nice," he added wistfully, and gazed out upon the ocean. He was soon lost in thought, but one unanswered question continued to nag at the back of his mind. He turned back to Lugnasadh; if he lived nearby, then surely he must know the answer! "Is it true what they say?" he asked. "That drinking the water only increases your thirst?"

Lughnasadh was caught completely off-guard by the question and in a flustered way said, "Well, I don't know, I haven't tried drinking the sea water. Well, I tried when I first got here, it tasted very salty, but luckily I found a fresh spring nearby to wash the taste from my mouth."

((Actually...neither Lughnasadh nor I knows the answer to that question. sweatdrop ))

“ I can assure you from past experience that drinking from the sea will make you ill.”

Ivy’s gaze drifted to the sea, recalling the hazy memories of her Fall and her landing in the sea. She did not become lost in her memories, nor were they especially painful for her, but it was not because she the emotional capacity. The truth was that it had never been in her nature to dwell over long on the past, but the Earth had also forced some distance between herself and the memories of her life before her contract with it.

Returning her gaze to the two stallions, she lowered her head slightly in admittance to her lack of knowledge. “ I confess that I do not know how much water it would take to make one sick. Suffice to say that I consumed enough.”

{{ I know that salt water tastes nasty and dehydrates you, so I would assume that it would make you more thirsty.}}

Helaku looked back over the water. It upset him a great deal that the water could not be drunk, but the more he thought about it, the more he liked the fact that the great expanse served no greater purpose than looking pretty and homing the novas. Home... he turned thoughts of settling down away, there was time for that later.

He turned to his two companions, a merry gleam in his eye. "But the water... surely it would do no harm to get our hooves wet? To dance and splash about with the waves, there, crawling on the shore."
