Damion escaped a Coven or Witches and Warlocks who plotted for the corruption of the mortal world. He wished only to be rid of the evil and to start a family. So he ran, splitting the veil between worlds and sealing it with his life behind him, settled with a wife and had himself a few children. His family knew of his origins, and his Daughter even inherited some of his magic, but Damion wanted nothing to do with the craft anymore, and took to drawing comics for a living. He created one of the most famous fighting teams in comic history, his Elemental Hero's battled evil from page to page, and edition to edition, and were Damion's most fond achievement.
After a few years of searching the Coven finally finds him again, but Damion was one of their most powerful Warlocks and they would much rather have him back, so they offer him one final chance to rejoin the Coven or face death. Knowing he would never go back alive Damion sets up a spell that would allow his four most famous drawings come to life to protect his family if he was killed, trusting his creations with the lives of his most precious things. Because the Coven could not cross into the mortal world while he still lived, they sent an assassin in their name to kill him and his wife, the unaware of the children's existence. And while the blood was still fresh, the four characters come to life off the paper, fight off the assassin and are there to explain what happened when the children return from school.
The assassin had no orders for the children, and with the characters their death would be extremely hard to accomplish, so he returns to the Coven to report. Able to cross into the mortal world now, the Coven decides the children can not live either as they know to much, but the Characters are there armed to the teeth with just as much weaponry as they are. Seems their dead companion had one last trick up his sleeve.
