Daisuke stayed in the shadows as he avoided the harsh, yellow-green pools of light from the street lamps. The wild dog was leery of heading into the countryside so going this far into the city unnerved him terribly. Rats as large as house cats scurried in the alleyways. They wriggled into rubbish bins and began to eat at the rancid food.
The striped Golden Retriever wrinkled his nose in disgust.
The city made his skin crawl. He knew humans were everywhere. He had dearly hoped that it wouldn't come to this. His search for his mentor. But, he reasoned, he had once lived with humans and he couldn't find him anywhere else. "Oooooooooh, Kirby-sama," He whined softly. "Come out so I can get out of here!' He kept his shoulders somewhat slumped, head down and his ears flicked back. At least in the forest he knew the game's rules. Here, he was flying blind. Dangers could be hiding in every shadow, on the stoop of every building.
A fat raccoon stalked toward him, hissing, a drunken swagger to his gait. Daisuke's lip curled into a snarl as a soft, gravely, yet dangerous rumbling came from deep within his throat. He stood up straight and looked the masked bandit in the eyes. "Piss off!" He snapped. The raccoon flicked it's tail and leaped onto a rubbish bin and began to work the latch on the lid.
Daisuke continued on his way, hoping the raccoon was the last unfriendly face he came across.

A life as a pet was a good one, if somewhat boring at times. You ate, you slept, you got groomed - but hey, at least she didn't have small children trying to ride her like a horse, like she'd seen once before. Did she look like a horse? No. Was the big enough to carry the weight of a human child? No. Then why on earth did parents let their children use dogs like toys? It just didn't seem logical. Her master - a somewhat young man struggling to find his way through university - treated her well. Max, she thought she'd heard his friends call him. He didn't treat her like a princess, which was fine - she wasn't one of those stuck up, snobbish pedigree dogs you sometimes found. But he fed her, and treated her well, and together they'd snuggle up at night, Ariel sleeping on his lap whilst he watched the tv.
But even a pet dog needed her freedom. Living in a small, ground floor apartment meant that her master had been able to fit a small dog-flap (she refused to call it a cat-flap) to the side of one of the walls, just big enough for the bulky bull terrier to squeeze out of. Roaming the streets at night kept her fit, and gave her a chance to meet other dogs. Most of them were strays, but there were a few other pet dogs living in the same circumstances as her.
It was as she was trotting merrily down the main street, nose to the ground inquisitively, that she suddenly picked up the scent of another canine. Her chestnut eyes flashed upwards, resting on the striped retriever in front of her. He smelt...foreign. He certainly wasn't a pet dog, and his scent was nothing like the city around them. Which meant he was wild - one of those dogs that chose to live in the woodland not far off of the city. Ariel's upper lip instinctively curled backwards, a low growl emitted from between her short yet sharp white teeth. You could never trust a wild dog, was what she'd always been told.

Daisuke's head jerked up at the low rumbling sound. He peered around the corner of the alleyway and spotted the stocky female. She smelled of humans and their dwellings. But she most certainly didn't act like most pets he'd come across. He got the feeling that she was far more rough and tumble and not a female to take lightly.
He slowly stepped forward and showed himself. "Konban-wa." He said with a soft bow of his head, keeping his eyes on her at all times. "I'm not looking for a fight, terrier-san." The male told her, his muscles were taught and he was rather uneasy around the pet. Especially since she seemed like she could take care of herself.
But he saw no collar around her neck, so perhaps she wasn't half bad.

Well...this wasn't what she'd expected. What she'd heard about wild dogs was how they leapt at you without giving you a chance, going straight for the throat. They were worse than strays in that they fought dirty to get their meals, always looking for fights just because they were bored. But this one...this one didn't seem to be. But that didn't mean that he wasn't playing a trick on her. She'd heard that about them too - about how sly they were.
"What are you looking for, then?" she snapped, her tone blunt and to the point. She wasn't going to mess around - she couldn't afford to, with a wild dog. Strangely enough, he seemed to be hiding from her, which pleased Ariel. She was far smaller than him, and although she was more muscular and stockier, she knew he could easily over-power her.

Daisuke's ear twitched back, briefly, at her tone. He was jittery being so far into the city with so many humans around. "I'm looking for a large breed...black and tan, by the name of Kirby." He said simply, sizing the little dog up. She seemed on edge for some reason and he couldn't quite put his paw on why.
"Why are you so cross with me, Terrier-san? I've done nothing to you." He asked starting to get a little worked up. He kept his demeanour calm however, he was quite good at it. Quote: I hear a ring-ting-tingling! Hey look! A BELL!

Kirby? Never heard of him. Ariel tended not to hang around with any of the larger breeds, since she felt small and inferior. Which she most certainly wasn't, of course. She could hold her own with the best of them...sometimes. Maybe.
"Don't know him."
Another blunt statement, but that was Ariel in a nutshell. Blunt, sturdy, to the point. She didn't see the point of beating around the bush. Her forehead creased into a frown at his question, of why she was angry. Well, she wasn't angry, per-say. Just...wary. He was right, he hadn't done anything. Yet.
"I'm not angry. Just wary of wild dogs."

Daisuke nodded before smirking. "Ah, so you've been told bed-time stories as a pup that we're vicious, blood-thirsty monsters who would kill you as soon as look at you?" He chuckled, eyes twinkling merrily.
"I meant no disrespect Terrier-san..I just...find it amusing. There are good and bad wild dogs just as there are good and bad pets." He explained. Of course he didn't add 'humans' to his example as he thought they all were bad.
"I'm Daisuke, by the way." He smiled softly.
"May I ask why you chose the pet lifestyle?" He found it curious since she didn't seem to be stuck up, prissy, or arrogant.
