Xaivary was lost. Probably. It was a little hard to be lost when you didn't have anywhere in particular you were going, or anywhere in particular to head back to. But the fact remained she was in unfamiliar territory and she didn't particularly know what to do with herself.

Though aside from the unfamiliar territory part that wasn't necessarily any different from usual.

She knew what general direction the coast was in when she'd set out a few days before hand, and now she was here, standing on the sands of a small inlet and looking out toward the expanse of salty water that had been dubbed "ocean". She'd come to get a closer look at seashells after a bout of curiosity induced by meeting one Sadiki Iah, but it was the first time she'd actually seen the ocean and the experience was... well a little mind-blowing. Even for the normally indifferent mare.

Xaivy lowered her goggled eyes to peer at the sand and pawed a small trough into it with her hoof, for the moment bemused with the manner in which it stuck, sort of like mud, but the grains did not have the same soggy, slimy, clinging quality. It was like... tiny gravel. Only muddy? Hum.

She peered back out at the ocean then, staring silently for a moment before asking aloud, but to herself, "Is there anything on the other side of all that?" She was alone most of the time, so she'd taken to talking to herself once in a while. She didn't even notice when she did it anymore.

Honey had wondered about such things for many years now - having individuals with wings in her family had helped to answer such a question though. According to certain members of Islagiatt, there was land beyond the ocean. However, it took many, many days (if not weeks) of continuous flight to reach the other side. To Honey, it was a puzzle as to why they even adopted such a strenuous flight path if this was the case. This being said, Honey had never been one for travel given the little issues that 'plagued' her life. She never complained about said issues, but to avoid the problems they caused she had never over extended herself to the point of 'testing' them.

Ah yes, the thing that many failed to realise was that Honeycomb was an exceptionally clumsy mare. From a young age she had struggled to gain her balance on land, even now as an adult she tripped over her own hooves and the smallest rocks. It was a wonder she had even kept her hair the length it was (for obvious reasons). Should anyone ask her though...it was a matter of principle. She loved the silky quality of her hair and its style reminded her of home. She very rarely went back for the simple reason that a journey that would take a few hours for a normal soquili, tended to take her a few days. Unfortunately, Honeycomb didn't enjoy being exhausted for her entire trip but she did try sometimes!

Alas, being seperated fro mthe majority of the Soquili in the Kawani would have driven most individuals insane. The vast majority of Soquili wandered the forests, the plains or the slopes - few visited her little coves. Oddly enough, she was content in her little lifestyle and often enjoyed the smaller things in life. She loved to lie on the beach while the ocean lapped gently against her side, she loved to chatter with the craps and listen to their tales. On occasions she would also collect sea shells and the otters would make her jewellery. Yes, despite the low level of visitors she was happy.

...In her own little world, there was no drama or horror. For some reason Skinwalkers, Kalona and other horrors alike preferred to lurk away from the shores. Perhaps they were adverse to salt water (who knew) but for Honey, life was peaceful and enjoyable. That being said she was by no means a loner and could be exceptionally hospitable when a visitor entered her realms, it was just a question of finding them first! Alas, such a thing was done for her this afternoon as the female voice drifted through the air and caused Honey's ears to pivot in it's direction. By the sounds of it, the voice was lurking behind another dune.

Oooh, visitor!

"Is there anything on the other side of a pond?" Honey replied softly, her eyes developing a renewed glowed of interest where she had otherwise been lost in her own daydream.

If anyone ever caught her talking to herself and commented on it, Xaivy usually just shrugged and tossed a rather flippant comment in reply that at least she didn't reply to her own comments yet. But for just a moment after Honey's replying queery she caught herself wondering if she just had. The voice, however, was not her own, and after a moment spent in shocked silence in which she was unsure of how to react she shook herself and turned to find the source of the voice.

Three black hooves and one white brought her high enough along the dune to see clearly over, and after shaking her unruly mane from her eyes Xaivary gave the other mare a brief examination. After a moment the bright green streak flopped back in her face and she offered a bit of a lazy grin before motioning toward the sea beside them. "That's a pond, is it?" She found the thought rather amusing.
PostPosted: Fri Sep 12, 2008 6:09 am

Honeycomb smiled pleasantly and turned her head ever so slightly so that the other mare came in to her line of sight. Her peculiar attire phased the petite mare very little, given that the Islagiatt was renowned for having members with rather bizarre appearances. Thus, she did nothing more than bow her head in greeting as the mare revealed herself and inspected her. Honeycomb's failure to rise to her hooves was not out of a desire to be impolite, it was merely to preserve her dignity - that...and she rather enjoyed where she was right now.

Nevertheless, as the mare made her comment regarding Honeycomb's response to her otherwise rhetorical question, her expression became a little more of a puzzle. It wasn't that she was insulted by the amusement the mare found in her statement, it was simply that so few grasped on the concept. Everyone was so concerned with specifics such as size and quantity. For some reason they were all so intent on categorising everything that they failed to see the immediate observation and it's relevance to the situation.

Honeycomb hadn't meant that the ocean was literally a pond, although it did have fish in it like a lake and a pond did. There were similarities between the various expanses of water, but she had referred to a pond in a metaphorical sense as opposed to regarding the ocean as an actual pond.

"It's the same principle," Honeycomb replied quietly, her tone remaining polite as she returned her gaze to the water and the waves that lapped against her hooves. "They are both expanses of water, they caress the edges of the land eventually. The ocean is just a big pond, there is land somewhere on the other side even if we can't see it..."

Xaivary was unbothered by Honeycomb's decision to remain where she was. In all honesty it didn't even cross her mind to wonder why. She simply assumed, whatever the reason, that the other mare had one and left it at that.

Her tail flicked, taking up the space of the moment between Honey's explanation and when Xaivy nodded. "Makes sense. Kinda like us, huh? Different looks and diferent breeds but we're all basically the same thing." Her lazy grin grew a smidge wider. "Though some would probably try to kick me for lumping them in with a Kalona."

Xaivary rocked idly from hoof to hoof before finally doing the one thing she hadn't really done yet. She walked toward the water and let a wave splash over her legs before returning. What had been the purpose of that? Perhaps she just wanted to know how it felt.

"Maybe the land's all surrounded by water instead? We live on a giant island." She snorted softly at herself before Honey's necklace caught her eye and she took a closer look at it. Wait... were those...? "Seashells?" They didn't look the same as the others. Did the little shell-creatures come in as many different varieties as ponds and Soquili, too? Well, wonders never cease.

"They have hooves, a tail...the same basic shape," Honey agreed in her usual soft tones, smiling a little as the mare came to inspect the waves. As they lapped against her legs, the other mare seemed to be otherwise unphased by it. Honey was never one to try and 'read' an individual, but there wasn't even a trace of an emotion on the mare's face! Perhaps it was due to the rather large amount of hair over her eyes, but it really did make it rather difficult to gauge how she was feeling. In a manner of speaking other individuals may have struggled to connect with her.

Alas, Honey was never one to permit things to get in her way and after a few moments she chuckled. "It's the same principle at least, whether we care to admit it...even Kalona are our distant cousins," she continued, pushing herself unsteadily to her feet. She wavered slightly, regathering her composure (and balance) before she lifted her head and released a soft sigh. It was only then that she chose to respond to the rest of the mare's musings.

"We could life on a giant Island, the idea is completely plausible but there isn't a sure fire way to prove it," she offered another of her smiles and then shrugged haphazardly. "The only way to confirm such thoughts would be to fly around it...or walk along the coasts which is not always possible given the obstacles that are sometimes presented..." she paused in this, recalling the times when she had stumbled into cliff faces and had found no other way to go round than to swim...or find a method of climbing up.

However, as the mare made reference to the seashells that had been carefully woven into a necklace she did clear her throat. Ah, they were things that had been close to her heart, shells that she had been gathered and given. She had no bags like a human, so her sea otter friends had found a way to let her keep them with her always. "Oh, yes...A Kelpi gave me the one on the left and I found the one on the right - they are pretty, no?"

It was hard for most Soquili to connect to Xaivary. It was equally difficult if not harder for Xaivy to connect to other Soquili... even when she actually wanted to. She'd probably have blamed it on a lack of interaction when she was young if she really felt like assigning a reason for it. But for Xaivy, there really wasn't much point. She was how she was and she'd not found a reason to have a problem with that.

"Well I don't suppose we can all have too much of a problem with the Kalona with all the rumors of mixed bloods I hear drifting around." Hooves, tail, same basic shape... and the ability to interbreed with the rest of the Soquili breeds. Much as some might like to think otherwise there really was no denying it. And it wasn't like dark natures were limited to the Kalona.

"Walk around the world? Maybe I'll try it sometime." She went where wind and whim carried her more often than not, after all; she'd shown up here purely on a whim to get a closer look at some seashells after seeing what she'd assumed were seashells on Sadiki's necklace. "Kinda nice seeing some new scenery." A flick of her tail and shifting her head a bit more to the side so she could peer at the ocean once more explained that statement easily enough.

Xaivy lowered her head to get a slightly better look at the seashells without having to move any closer. "Pretty. Not really my thing... but they do look good on you." She said it so matter of factly that it would have been almost impossible to tell if she'd intended it as a compliment or simply an observation.

Honey never forced herself to connect with over individuals, each time she did there was often much confusion and confrontation. She had long since learnt that in order to survive it was better to remain amiable until it was otherwise proven to be the wrong approach. In a manner of speaking, Honey simply opted to echo her father's sentiments. If she could see the logic in another person's statement then she would agree to it and apply her own. Whereas if she didn't agree with a statement she would simply smile and refrain from commenting - she couldn't run and she most certainly couldn't fight so it was really an issue of survival for her.

"Dark hearts exist in every Soquili, no being is truly pure and selfless," she mused after a few moments, her ears pivoting at the sound of the waves as they crashed up against the boulders nearby. For the most part the ocean had been fairly calm today, thus such an abrupt attack was a curiosity to her. "In the same way, a little bit of goodness exists in them too - while stereotypically a Kalona might be a beast...it is not always the correct assumption to make," she finished. Admittedly she preferred not to think about the violent methods in which mares became pregnant, she was aware they were there but she preferred the more 'romantic' forms.

Differences could be settled, common ground could be discovered.

Nevertheless as Xai made reference to her shells again and inspected them a little more closely the mare's smile deepened. If she was honest, Honey couldn't really foresee the mare beside her wearing seashells - there was something about the image she portrayed that didn't really fit with it. That being said, while her comments could have been an observation, Honey opted to take them as a compliment.

"Thank you," giving another of her nods the mare returned her gaze towards the horizon and shifted her weight from hoof to hoof. "And it never hurts to travel, my father certainly enjoys it..."

Xaivary had heard of Kalona stallions going after females, yes; but she'd also heard of Kalona mares letting non-Kalona stallions court them. She'd never met any of the by-products of these encounters herself so she couldn't say for sure, but the rumors were wide-spread and many a Soquili liked to chatter whether a quiet stranger was within earshot or not. Xaivary learned many things from other Soquili without them even realizing it.

"I wonder where I fall in the spectrum of good and evil? Probably about as nuetral as it gets..." She shifted from hoof to hoof, musing to herself for a moment. Yes, she was aware of her own peculiarly indifferent nature. But in spite of the many odd reactions she'd recieved for it from some of the Soquili she'd met who tried to prod some sort of "real" reaction from her she was satisfied with herself. Surely her unruly mane and tail were visible sign enough that she cared little what others thought of her.

Xaivary watched Honey's smile grow and at the offering of thanks it looked for a moment as though the corners of her mouth quirked up for the start of an answering smile. It was different than the lazy grin offered earlier, something perhaps a bit more genuine; but the smile never quite formed.

"Father? You two talk a lot?" It was a peculiar notion to Xaivary... having a father to talk to. Having a family to talk to, even. She often wondered what such a thing might be like. "Though I guess if he travels a lot that might be kind of hard."

Goggle hidden eyes watched the water for a long moment as she shifted her head from side to side, almost as if trying to determine if it looked different from one eye to the other. "Traveling is fun. Sometimes I wonder what it's like to have a place to go back to, though. Hmm." She shifted her head back to peer at Honey. "You live around here?"

Honey had met many half-breeds, some of her herd weren't completely purebred and as such she was aware of how diverse the Soquili population was. Unfortunately given her slight disability she rarely saw the majority of her herd. They did what they could to visit her but generally speaking, she only saw them on very special occasions. Nevertheless she didn't regard this with any form of bitterness or anger, she merely accepted it as a fact and worked hard to 'adapt' accordingly.

"Good and evil are based on perception," Honey pointed out softly as the mare began to muse over her own preference. Honey was aware of the general misconception that they were purely defined concepts, but this was incorrect. What was good to one side, was often perceived as inaccurate and evil to the other. Perception and preference generally ruled the world and the disagreements that stememd from it were inevitable. "Though I often feel that I fit snuggly into neutrality, conflict is too strenuous..." she confessed after a short while.

"That being said if someone needed my help I wouldn't say no either, I find it easier to simply not think about it and act as I see fit - you know?" she continued softly. Her gaze lowered for a time being before she released a sigh and returned her eyes to mare. By now the mare had progressed on to other subjects and Honey quickly caught up to her, maintaining her silence until the time was right.

"He may travel a lot but he comes back as much as he can," she assured the mare and then she chuckled. "He is very gentle, very optimistic... He enjoys life to the fullest unlike many who allow themselves to be torn down by the limitations society places on them. He's always wanted me to do the same, you know?" Again she drifted off into silence for a few moments as she considered her father's words. Generally speaking she really didn't have as much of an adventurous spirit as her father did.

"Yes, I drift between here and the lakes. Water is my favourite place to be near."

"The world is what you percieve it to be... someone told me that once." Xaivary had never really met a "peculiar" Soquili; most of the Soquili she met thought that Xaivary was the peculiar one. But just as Honey said that good and evil were concepts based purely on perception, and that it varied from person to person... that applied to what was peculiar, also, didn't it? Until Xaivary found a reason to have a problem with the way she was, she would simply continue to be... her.

"If someone needs help, and I can... if someone tries to start something, and won't leave me be. I don't really like getting into conflicts but sometimes they won't let you alone." She slapped her tail from side to side against her flanks before grinning that lazy grin again, though it seemed a bit more genuine this time. "But yeah, I know."

"I think I like the water." It was an idle comment in reply to Honey's about the water. For a moment it seemed as though she'd completely glossed over the blonde mare's statements about her father. She watched the water for another long moment and when the moment was over she spoke softly, almost like an afterthought. "Is it nice? When he comes back." Another afterthought followed. "I'm Xaivary."

"Honeycomb," Honey responded automatically to the introduction and saved the name deep in her mind. No doubt it would remain on the level of an acquaintance but Honey had always taken pride in her memory. She liked to be able to recall even obscure faces by name - it set her apart from most and made up for what she lacked. Ah yes, even Honey was aware of her faults but she had always tried to remain optimistic. What she lacked in one department she strove to make up in another!

"And it's really nice, he brings gifts when he visits," she explained softly, a small smile lining her lips as she continued to admire the horizon. "He tells me stories of what he's seen, new jokes and the games he discovered in far off places," she explained. It all sounded rather childish but given her sheltered nature, her father's exploration and his tales helped to broaden her horizons bit by bit. In essence the mare lived through her father and all he had seen, learning of the wonders that existed in the world through his words and tales... one day she hopes he would bring someone back as an example too!

"Sometimes he even brings foods with him but he loves food so half of it is eaten by the time he gets back!" She giggled fondly as she recalled her father. Ever lively and an eternal optimist he would smile sheepishly at her and apologise when he realised what he'd done. However she didn't mind, she was more than happy just to be visited and remembered so regularly. "He's very special to me - I'm sure that you have someone that you regard with equal enthusiasm..."

While Honey wasn't sure how the aloof mare would take such a statement, she could only hope that she at least had something or someone to look forward to. It would be a very plain world if there wasn't at least one thing that caused a tiny spark of interest in a creature.

Xaivary often wondered when the subject came up what it would be like to have a family, or a home, or even just a friend to "go back" to. But that wasn't something she'd ever really had; not that she could remember, anyway. Most of the Soquili she'd met weren't interested enough to put forth the effort for more than a passing conversation, and that was simply how things were for her. As much as she wondered it was such a foreign idea that she'd never honestly given more than a passing thought.

"He sounds like a fun guy." This was Xaivary's response to Honeycomb's description of her father and his antics. It was almost enough to make her want to hang around and see if he showed up anytime soon; she rarely stayed in one place for very long though. She'd never really had a reason to stay.

She'd drifted into a rather unfocused state, just staring off into the distance. Honey's final, trailing statement caused her blink back into the current reality and cant her head to where she could see the other mare clearly through the lense of her goggle. "Not really. Nobody I can think of has ever asked me to stay, or come to see me. Maybe someday?..." She just almost sounded wistfull when she said "someday". Almost. "I just wander around a lot, really. Try to find something new to experience every day. Keeps things interesting. Like today. You, seashells, and the ocean."
PostPosted: Fri Sep 19, 2008 7:55 am

"He is," she agreed gently. While others had aged less gracefully her father's pleasant nature and adventurous spirit had ensured that he didn't look old at all. Still rivalling the appearance of a young stallion, he could make the ladies swoon just as well as he had done years ago. Honey had often giggled at his behaviour but in a manner of speaking she was at least proud that he had chosen to settle with her mother. It had been a hard decision for him to make but Islagiatt tradition and upbringing was hard to shift.

That being said, his daughter would have supported him in anything he did provided he remained happy. He seemed content with such a future, she doubted he would stay in one place for long but he would at least give his heart to her mother. In a manner of speaking he would just have his daughter to come back to. However she was happy, her mother deserved happiness and love having dedicated so much of her time to raising her siblings and even her grand children. Ah yes, Honey was an aunt - that had been a shock for her father.

"He's never boring, that's for sure," she murmured gently and then shook her head. Snorting the hair away from her eyes she gazed carefully at the mare and then smiled. Apparently Xaivary had a habit of spacing out, remaining decidedly detatched from others it was as though she was almost indifferent towards how one might feel. Honey doubted that Xaivary was void of emotions but at the same time, she wasn't exactly in tune with them either.

"I'm glad you find the experience entertaining, though the coasts have more to offer than just seashells," she pointed out gently before giggling. "You're welcome to come by anytime you see fit, you may even bump into my father..."

Xaivary, on the other hoof, didn't even know who her father was. She also doubted that he had any idea she existed, from what little she remembered of her mother's behavior. Her mother had also disappeared shortly after she was weaned; whether by choice or not she'd never known. Maybe it was a good thing Xaivy wasn't all that in tune with her emotions. She'd probably have been crushed under their weight long ago otherwise, her parents only the first to drift in and out of her life without bothering to leave much but a certain level of disappointment behind.

It was a bit strange to hear Honey invite her to come back at some point in the future after she left, in that light. Not really asking her to, no. But it was more than she usually got, and she mulled it over with a bemused expression for a moment. "Well, if there's so much to see I might just have to, hmm? What I listed earlier was just today's adventure, after all."

Maybe if she was lucky she'd come back sometime when Honey's father came to visit her. Xaivary was a little curious what it was like to watch the two interact. Maybe she'd even see a Kelpi. She hadn't actually seen one of the rarer breeds of Soquili; not up close anyway.

"You said you've seen a Kelpi earlier... you seen anything else? Like one of those... Winds? I've never really seen anything like that, for all I hear people talk about them a lot." The lazy grin drifted back onto her face. "'Cept a Kalona, across a clearing in the woods, once. I was downwind at the time and I didn't exactly stick around to see how friendly it was."
