Out of all the years I’ve immersed myself in WoW, I’ve never been seriously harassed because of my gender; until now.

It’s disgusting; I can’t believe there are men on WoW that will degrade a player because they happen to be a woman. Is it because they themselves can’t seem to have a steady relationship with one? Did their mother abuse them as a child? I mean, come on?! What other reasons would a man have for hating a woman just because she was playing a game that he himself plays? I personally would love to have a mate that is interested in the same games I am. Is it just not feminine enough?

Anyways, it went on with this guy constantly whispering me over the most stupid things after he told me to “grow a d**k” and I said “no thanks I’m happy with my v****a.” After that I got flames of how being a woman meant I was stupid and other derogative gender slurs. Of course I put him on ignore after this and reported him (What else could I do?).

Discuss
How do you feel about other women being harassed over their gender?
Have you ever been harassed verbally because you were a woman?
What did you do about it?

That's ridiculous. I can't believe someone actually said that to you.

Ugh.

I never actually was harassed just for being a woman, but I (like many of the other ladies here, I'm sure) get the 'women belong in the kitchen' remark quite often. When they say that, though, I always just say "Trust me, you would never ever ever want me in your kitchen, if you want to have the kitchen again in the morning."

Online anonymity means that people don't have to worry about the consequences of their misogyny/douche-baggery/asshattery. It's annoying, but I act like an a*****e just for the hell of it at times myself, so I understand why people do it. It can be really funny.

I usually play along with it, but then again I'm a bit sexist against women anyway. I say things like "No women on teh Internetz" and "I should be in the kitchen makin you a sammich". haha.

I've never been harassed, atleast not yet, but I suppose some of the people that would harass me would have to be dumb, considering I'm the GM of a (around) 200 member guild, with friends in high places in several of the largest guilds (and strongest) in the server...

Thats strange. Normally if they find out you're a girl IRL they will bend over backwards for you, my guild gave me 600g for my epic mount because they knew i was a girl. But screw that f**. :[

Unless... well there is this one marine who keeps making me stuff, and sending it to me, like i said, "DADDY! I WANT A SQUIRREL!" because he was whining about not getting a kodo from brewfest, next morning, i get up and i see theres mail from him- it was a robot squirrel! After that he just kept giving me stuff, he still does..... Cobalt armour i cant use yet and many a weapon... *shiver*

I conducted a little experiment where I made a Horde character on my server that no one knew about, and it was a male Tauren warrior and I did not tell anyone that I was a female. I expected that people would treat me like crap because I wasn't a girl, but actually the first person I saw in a big city gave me more free crap than I ever got on any of my female characters. I found that to be kind of interesting.

The only time I ever get flirtatious and act like a... well, excuse my language here, an "e-whore" is when there's an Australian guy in the channel. Otherwise, you'd never even know I was a chick :3.

I usually assume female characters are guys unless they say otherwise. I know it sounds sexist, but it's generally true.

I jokingly flirt in game a lot. Mostly with Horde just because I think it's funny that I'd be flirting with my enemies. haha.

Oh man... that Australian accent. /moan

We have an Australian kid in our guild, and he's only like 14 and he's not attractive at all, but when he talks I'm just like "OMGSHEXAY!" hahaha.
