What is Essynthesis??
The word refers to the process of spirit or 'essence' synthesis that allows Elysians to reproduce. You see, Elysians do not 'breed' in the normal sense of the word. In fact, any such thing would be rather difficult and very awkward in most all cases.
The good thing about this is that there are no restrictions on Elysian pairings, gender or otherwise. Want to see what happens when you mix Carbuncle and Bahamut? Ok, we can do that. Well, what about Shiva and Ifrit? Of course we can! Ohh, how about Atomos and Anima? ... o___O; um. Well. Theorectically, yes. But.. *cough* dayum.
How does Essynthesis happen?
First off, the Elysians in question must have a certain degree of maturity. This gives them time to settle into their new bodies and allows their spiritual strength to develop. After all, Essythesis is very taxing on the parents and young Elysians just don't have the stamina for it.
Without rping your Elysian, it will naturally grow to spiritual maturity in about a month. Those Elysians that are active and spend time at the temple may reach maturity within just a few weeks.
When your Elysian becomes strong enough to be considered mature, it will recieve the title of "Prime" in their tags. Unfortunately, Elysians that result from Essynthesis will never achieve "Prime" status. This is due to the fact that their essences are hybridized, and any attempt at mixing them would be unstable and therefore dangerous.
Once you have two Prime Elysians that want to pair, they must both be brought before the Crystal Guardian for her blessing [i.e. you must both send a PM stating you would like to have your Elysians paired]. Once blessed, the Guardian will extract one crystal shard from the Prime Crystal. Because this new crystal was not allowed to develop naturally, there will only be the slightest spark of a soul within it.
The 'blank' crystal will be set within a special room in the temple. The parents will stay in that room as well, entering a state of torpor, where they will remain until the crystal is ready for summoning. During this time, their familiars will be in constant contact with the new shard, channeling the parents' energies into it and helping the spirit inside develop. It's during this incubation that the Summoners must decide who the crystal will go to.
After a variable amount of time (depending on element compatability as well as the Elysians in question) the parents will awake. The crystal will then be ready for summoning and will be presented to its new summoner.
The normal summoning process applies for Elysians that result from Essynthesis.
Notes:
-New parents will be very weak for several days after emerging from their slumber.
-Elysians must first recover for a month before attempting another Essynthesis.
-Elysians that come from Essynthesis are called Altera Elysians when they mature instead of Prime Elysians.
-Altera Elysians will not resemble any existing FF summons. They will be completly unique, with features and characteristics from both parents.
