Paws hadn't stopped running since they'd started. The last thing Khepri had done was talk to Tamba, that had changed her life right there. The kind king had told her that she was wanted and welcomed for what appeared to be her experience. Of course Khepri was experienced hunting and she would hunt her heart out for the king who'd given her the first home she'd known in nearly three years.

Now she had to tell Kota, oh he would be so happy! He would do that happy roar thing of his that made Khepri's very toes curl in the sand with joy and shivers go down her spine. He was such a loud male that it made her smile, but he was also soft as a kitten and strong as a wildebeast.

Perfect lion!

Now Khepri, after so many years alone and wandering, had the perfect mate, the perfect cubs, and the perfect home. She wasn't alone to wander and think about life as it might have been or should have been anymore. Instead she was lively and finally at home.

"'Kota!" Khepri roared out in her strong voice, letting it carry out over the sands as she ran closer to the den. He would love it, he would be so happy.

Hell, SHE was so happy. It felt as though she could melt into the sands or fly into a thousand pieces with the intensity of the joy in her large white chest. At last she was home, at last she could calmly enjoy the presence of other lions without having to worry about them killing her or not, without having to worry about them not accepting her.

Finally, for all that her flame kissed coat had gotten her into trouble and caused her grief, it was finally paying off for her. She would be able to walk down the sands with her mate and know that no one would sneer at her or scorn her for how she appeared to them. They would know who she was by the time she was done.

The thought made a laugh bubble deep within her chest, an uncharacteristic noise to come from such a gruff lioness.

Oh what he would say and how he would babble. Kota always babbled when he was happy.

His coat stood out against the pale sands as much as Khepri's did only his coat had alway been thicker, born in the pride lands he had always been a large rough and ready boy and when he came to the sea only one thing had been missing. The sea, he had known from a very young age was home for him and when Khepri joined him the hole that she left had been filled.

Opening one jet black eye his pale lips turned in a grin as he got to his paws and padded towards his big, blood red mate, he had never really cared what colour she was,s he could have been purple blue or pink for all he cared, she was the love of his life. "Alo lass." He beamed padding up to her and greeting her with a lick to her nose quickly followed by his thick maned head wrapping around her shoulders.

"Enjoyin' the sea taday luv?" He grinned, a gentle laughter rolling over his thick chest as he gazed deep in to her honey golden eyes. Truly he didn't know where he would be without her, for though the sea was home he felt lost without her by his side.

Much like her mate, Khepri's fur soaked up the heat from the sun. Only because her fur was thin and hollow it was almost as if she had to be in the sun all the time. During the night her fur managed to hold in heat long enough for her to fall asleep and no longer feel her fur losing it. That was how she'd survived the cold of the Firekin desert at night.

Here though, Kota kept her warm every night with his fluffy mane that was made so different than her own fur. It was as if he held heat in all the time and never lost it. If not for him she'd have frozen to death those first few frightening weeks where her blood had been thin from loss.

Letting him wrap himself around her, Khepri leaned her large body against his, knowing that he could hold her weight despite her size. After letting him break her of the pride she had and the will to never let any carry her, Khepri had come to acknowledge that he was stronger than she imagined.

Her whiskers brushed against his cheek and snuggled into his thick mane against his throat, responding to his deep laughter with a deep chuffing noise that resembled a cheetah's purr. Where would she have been if he hadn't found her that frightening night in the waves, lost between life and death? Surely she'd never have made it.

"Kota! Ah foun' 'im! Ah foun' Tambuzi!" Her voice bubbled over from deep within her white chest, her tarnished gold eyes dancing in joy. "'e says Ah can stay in th' pride as a 'untress too."

Joy and exctasy made the edges of her muzzle turn upwards as far as they possibly could, made her large body want to wiggle and dance. Surely her mate could see it all over her. Even Khepri's fur was glowing in happiness as she spoke of something she'd never imagined happening before.

'Kotas muzzle turned in a huge grin, even wider than his smile, if that was at all possible. "Tha kin' be a good male, Ah knew soon as 'e metcha e'd make sure yer was able ta stay." he grinned and groomed her blood red face grooming her eyes and cheeks in a manner of pure love. There was no better news, knowing that his beautiful mate was able to stay here with him forever.

He stepped back for a moment and lifted a paw cupping up her chin, a smile as gentle as the seas waves washing over his muzzle. "We cin stay aside tha waves fereva na lass, jus you an me and tha lads, an we can be useful an protect an 'elp tha pri." his onyx eyes sparkled, full of the stars that had yet to appear.

"We should do somethin' special for tha king." He paused for a moment and looked thoughtful "Fer lettin my lass stay on tha waves, it as ta be somethin special."

It felt as though her chest would burst wide open from the emotions she felt just then, like a great rip would occur and let out all the happiness that she felt so the entire world could share in it and yet she'd still have some. To see Kota as happy as he was about the series of events made her even happier.

"Ah know Ah'm nevah leavin'. Ah'll plan' mah be'ind righ' on th' sand an' nevah let anyone convince meh ta wander AGAIN." Khepri put emphasis on this last word, making it known that she'd done her fair share of it.

The feel of the gouges on her neck that had finally healed but were still rough and sore from time to time was enough innitiative to never let her paws wander beyond the pride's coastal lines again. Khepri remembered the savannah, that was enough for her. Sure she knew the entire savannah by now, had seen many prides from border to border and knew that the rougelands had shrunk every year she'd been wandering, that was enough information for her.

"Aye, tha' we shoul' do. Bu' wha' shoul' we do?" Her eyes watched her mate sharply, he knew more about this pride than she did though she was learning. If they could find him some special shells or something, but then he was the king, he probably had the best of the best already.

Thoughts swirled in Khepri's mind and she tried her best to imagine what a king could use that a normal lioness could offer.

The big jet black male smiled at his mate, he loved her so deeply, all he wanted in the world was for her to be at his side, to enjoy the waves and the sun and the sand together for the rest of forever. All he wanted was for her to be happy. Nuzzling her cheek he took a step away from her and tilted his head.

"Well I don't be knowin' lass, but I reacon atween us we can fin' somethin amazin. Tha lord as made my life complete an' I'll bout do anythin ta thank im fer it."

the big male looked deeply thoughtful, he truely didn't know what he could offer Tamba, he had already offered his life to the pride, he was a guard and proud of it, but there had to be something, somethign material that he could offer the king in thanks, he just had to decide what that was.

Gold flashed as Khepri looked up to the sky. What to offer a king that could get anything he wanted very easily? He was a king after all, there were certain perks that went with that.

Certainly nothing from the sea would intrest the sea king, or at least mean as much to him as Kota seemed to want it to. Though Khepri knew she wanted it to mean something to Tambuzi as well she knew that there was something better.

Work seemed the best way for he to do it, at least in her mind. Work and more work.

"Maybe somethin' from th' sky?" Khepri said slowly.

The sky? The dark male looked up at the cloud free air and smiled, what came from the sky? Sunshine, rain, clouds, birds, feathers? The jet black lion laughed loudly "Oh course! Khepri lassy, ye be an inspiration that's what ya be!" He chuckled and nuzzled his beautiful mate.

"We'll go ta tha jungle and search out feathers, thar be bright birds in thar and they be loosin' feathers all tha time." He puffed out his chest and licked Khepri's face in a gentle kiss "Yer jus' wonnerful you know that don't ya lassy?"
