Tarajia stalked through the grasses, following an unfamiliar scent. Was it prey? Or was it a demon. She growled. If it was a demon, it would feel her claws and rue the day it crossed the path of Tarajia, daughter of the Jua and Mwezi of Mwako'bi'Giza.

Spotting her target, she decided to pounce first, ask questions later. Tara moved into the crouch...then pounced, landing on her target with sharp cub-claws and a little cub-roar.

Safi had stopped for a bit in his travels, sleep deciding it wanted to make his life miserable until it claimed him. And so the golden wild dog had drifted off, his fur warmed by the mid-morning sun. And it was a peaceful sleep, full of dreams of home and playing...

Until he felt claws in his back. He yelped and was up on his feet quickly, trying to dislodge the attacker. Someone wanted to munch on him!!!!!!

Tara blinked and was thrown off the strange golden thing, bouncing a bit before stopping and just lying there on her back, a bit dizzy. Wow...she had not been expecting that. Once she recovered, she stood and stared at the...thing. What was it? It wasn't a leopard, or a lion. Or like her and her siblings.

"What are you?"

Panting from the exertion of being pounced as a wake-up call, Safi looked at the would-be muncher. And discovered it was just a cub. He blinked. A cub?! And she...oh geez. It was like Ekun all over again. He sighed and smiled.

"I'm a wild dog. And you...are a lion?" She looked a little like a lion cub...but there was something...different....And she was BIG for a cub. Her parents must have been huge!

Tara blinked. A...wild dog? Strange. She sat down, curious. This dog didn't seem all that dangerous. In fact...he seemed pretty goofy. "Only part. Mother is a lioness. Father is a leopard. I am Tarajia."

She wasn't unkind or unfriendly, but her words were brief and quick. No sense in mincing things.

A lion and a leopard? That...was kinda cool. "Well, Tarajia...I'm Safi'mmoja. And please...check what you're pouncing next time. I was having a rather good nap." He smiled kindly. He was getting used to being a father, and, dorky though he was, he was also starting to get that 'fatherly feel to him.

Tara snorted. "What if you were a demon. Cannot take chances." She was the daughter of the Jua and Mwezi! She could not risk being caught off guard, or being unable to protect her family. She looked like a proud little thing...but she also had a zealous gleam in her orange-amber eyes. "I am sorry for hunting you, though."

A...demon...? Safi blinked and titled his head. "A demon? Why would someone small as you be worried about demons? And it's broad daylight..." He'd heard little bits and pieces about demon...And they were not a nice bunch. But they didn't seem to like the day much.

Tara sighed. What a naive dog. "Demons can walk in daylight. Not often, but sometimes." She stood and paced about Safi. "I am a child of the Mwako'bi'Giza. And it is out duty to ensure the demons are eradicated." She stopped in front of him again.

"No matter our age."

Safi had a look of disbelief on his face. "But...that's unfair! You're a cub! Cubs are supposed to have fun and frolic and not worry about anything more than learning how to hunt and who their newest friend is!"

Who would thrust such responsibility onto a CUB?! Safi reasoned that he did not want to meet this cub's parents...He was afraid he'd get eaten while trying to give them a piece of his mind.

Tara's orange-amber eyes narrowed at Safi. This...DOG...was annoying. Such stupid words. Fair? What was this 'fair?' As far as she knew, it meant something that would never happen. If things were fair, she'd still have her brother Bavu. If things were fair, her mother wouldn't bear the scars given to her by Tara's aunt, nor would her new 'sister' Dogo have scars from one of her cousins.

She growled. "Demons don't care about FAIR. So hunt I must, and hunt I WILL."

Safi narrowed his eyes and growled back. "Maybe...but you're a CUB. What is the point of making something small and meant to be playing around and learning about life HUNT something far bigger and deadlier?" His anger gave way to sadness.

"There's too much chance for...for death...And the death of a cub or pup is the saddest out there." He knew he'd never forgive himself if one of his pups died on him...

Tara felt rather...sorry for the wild dog. She sighed and walked over to him, sitting down beside one of his paws. "They're not making me hunt." No...she wantd to hunt though. She wanted the demons to pay for taking her brother away...she wanted to know that no cub would have to suffer what she did because of the demons. "I want to."

Safi...had the sound of a father to him. Worried and gentle and strong, all at once. Her statements had probably made him worry about his own family...

Safi blinked and looked down to the cub at his paw. She...wanted to? He laid down, curious and worried. What would make a cub want to hunt things like demons? "Why do you want to? They're dangerous and deadly and none too nice..."

"Because they took my brother." It was a simple statement...but the emotions behind it were obvious. Sorrow, pain, loss...despite her gruffness and shortness...Tara LOVED her family. Everyone in it, from her father to her baby brother. And like her older brother Hekima...she was determined to protect them. And they'd failed. Failed so horribly.

"And I will make them pay."
