So classes had finally let out and the kids were released from hell to return home. Or at least, that's how Ala viewed it. The girl sighed as students and dragons tried to cram onto the elevators and head down. She spotted her sister on the first floor, waiting for Cassi to get out. Ala waved and kept going. Poor kid was terrified of Bob, so she tried to get away quickly.
Normally the two would fly part of the way home, then walk for a while to let Bob's wings rest. He still wasn't quite up to flying the whole distance. They lived a ways from D-corp, after all. However, the brass was peering back behind them at an older boy and dragon coming out of the building. Alaqua turned to look. Amazingly enough, for all of the classes she had with them, the girl didn't really know many of the kids her age.
So she waited for the brightly colored boy and the gold to catch up. "It's Paxton, right? We're in some of the same classes..." Hey, no time like the present to get to know your classmates better.

Moving strait from summer school right on into the school year was no pleasurable task, especially when it came to being a teenage boy who was dying for free space. Though the day was done and he could finally go home and mope a few hours before having to start household chores. He stroked the side of his dragons head, a creature whom was always reluctant to follow him to class everyday. At least she didn't have to carry him home, that was the benefit of them both having wings, Paxton and Marigold could get a little exercise everyday. He was about to toss on his book bag around his shoulders when he was stopped in the hall by a very mysterious looking...girl? "Yeah it's Ala, right?" he tried to think back on those brief times he had met her or heard about her, and was very good about his face not faltering once at her outlandish, boyish, appearance.
He held out his hand, waiting for a brief shake, while Marigold whimpered and curled her tail around his leg. Damn it Paxton, it was time to go home, not chat around! "What up?" He had to briefly wonder if she needed something or was just being friendly, he didn't care either way. It was a little strange to just arbitrarily strike up a conversation with someone you weren't comfortable with, but maybe he could get to know her better?

Ala grinned and nodded, shaking the boy's hand. "Yup, got it in one." She eyed the boy for a moment, her brain dead as to what to talk about now. She didn't really know the boy, other than he was close to her age and that they had some of the same classes. Not much for common ground there. And she really didn't feel like talking about school. So... hey, they both had dragons!
"Your dragon's a gold, right?" Some of them were named simply for the color, like green and black. Others were a bit more complex... silly metallics. Like her own brass. He looked more brown than anything else, really. "Never seen one before...."

So, some friendly conversation then? It didn't seem like she had much else to say to him, well, he didn't mind that. In fact, just the other day he had been thinking about how he wanted to get out and meet other people. Ala looked like a fun girl, a little more adventures than most of the chicks running around D-corp. "Yeah," he smiled a bit, pulling his sweater closer to him as they hit the doors and managed to get out of D-corp and past the crowds of other kids and parents. He made sure to hold the door open for Ala, even though he was cold and desperately wanted to put on that scarf of his as well. Despite it being nice and warm outside, Paxton found it all ready getting a bit chilly for his tastes. "She can be a bit of a grump sometimes," he looked back, briefly scratching under Marigold's chin. "But she's quite a beauty, guess it was my lot in life to get surrounded by pretty women." He let out a laugh and kept walking though as they neared a couple of blocks away from the building he had to slow himself down.
"And your dragon...ugh..." to be honest, he didn't know what type it was. Paxton didn't really have a clue about things that didn't pertain to him. Maybe it had been that bump to the head which made it hard to remember, or maybe he was kind of a space case, either way he felt embarrassed. "I-I think his name was bob, from what I've heard" he did a nervous little smile and then looked around, "...do you and bob usually go this way?"

Alaqua grinned, knowing the feeling of having a dragon that could be grumpy at times. She decided not to comment on the pretty women remark, unsure just what the boy was trying to imply there. "He's a brass. Supposed to talk a lot." She glanced over at the dragon in question, who took it upon himself to answer the other questions.
"Yes, she calls me Bob, though I prefer Jormungandr." He pointedly ignored Ala's eyeroll. "And we often fly, though I'm only starting to get strong enough to fly longer distances. Dragon teacher said I'd get stronger each day I practice. So we practice a lot. Ala likes-"
He was silenced by a gentle bop on the nose, which caused him to scowl in a rather amusing fashion. "Ala thinks I talk too much..." He muttered to the other two.

"You do," Paxton's dragon chimed in as they waddled out past the last of the little buildings of D-corp. Well, Paxton smiled, at least he wasn't the one whom had to say it. Tish, Brass dragons, Marigold could barely believe it. Always blah, blah, blah, blah, and still nothing important to say. With a huff Mari flicked her tail and waddled along ahead. Oh that dragon, Paxton let out a laugh not a genuine one but something that said he was interested in the current conversation. He even thought it was funny in a way, another dragon that Marigold didn't seem to get along with. Marigold never got along with anyone, the only company she preferred was her bed. Not that she was lazy, she just found much more joy in comfort, rather than in fight than grabbing with enemies or talking with others.
Watching his dragon look ahead, Paxton's eyes moved on ahead to the path. They really were getting to a part now, a fork in the road (literally or not) where Paxton would have to decided to continue walking with Ala or going home his own way. At this stage in the game he was pretty sure they didn't live in the same area.
But even with the interruptions aside, Paxton couldn't help but wonder what Bob was about to discuss that Ala had wanted him to shush about. "Ala likes what?" He started to slow himself, seeing if she would start drifting into a different direction.

Bob gave a scowl at Marigold's comment. "I do? I didn't think I talked too much... I thought it was just 'La saying that... I wish we were allowed to talk in class. It's not fair that the teachers get to ramble on and on and we're just forced to sit there..." The brass didn't even seem to noticed that the other dragon had wandered on ahead and that he was really just talking to the air.
Ala rolled her eyes and grinned at Paxton. "You learn to ignore him after a while..." She gave a pat to the brass's side and he blinked, realizing that Marigold was now some distance ahead. He gave a long sigh.
"Hmm? Oh, she likes lots of things." Bob grinned. "She likes green and green foods and sleeping and petting me and climbing trees and petting me more and flying with me. There's lots of things she doesn't like, too. Like mean teachers and her siblings and being at home too much and classes and-" He trailed off as he noticed Alaqua was glaring at him. "What? He asked..."

"Ignore him? No, no, I think Bob has some very wise words to share," Paxton looked over at Ala, mischievous looking grin plastered square all over his face. No bother in hiding it, Bob's comments had perked his attention in Ala. Now really Ala wasn't his type, but it was only the other day that he had been complaining in his journal about how he needed to get out more, even get out on a date more. And currently the only criteria for having a little fun with Paxton was that you had to be a girl, Ala was a girl, so what was the problem in that? Besides, it wasn't a date, it was just going to hang out...ulterior motives pending.
He nodded from time to time as the dragon spoke, ending again with another 'compliment' toward bob, "Yup, I did ask Jormungandr, here". He raised his hand as if to pat him on the back, but the touch only landed in the air. Heh, some dragons were picky about that thing. "If anything, Ala, you should be mad at me.~" He sounded so confident, so well rehearsed and scripted, as if he would really take whatever punishment she wanted to deal out.
"Of course," Paxton paused as he tugged the slipping strap of his book bag back over his shoulder, "that is, if any of it is true." That was when he looked over at Ala, smirk no longer, but a earnest questioning face. "If it was really true," he turned his gaze away from her again, focusing on the road, "then she would really say 'yes' to coming with me Friday night to grab a bite of salad and a bit of conversation at that new vegetarian bistro in Barton. But only because, if it were true, she's sick of being trapped at home and school all the time and maybe seeks a little adventure? And maybe, maybe, if it were really true, after dinner she could teach me how to climb a tree? Cause never in my life have I done it earnestly?"
He flapped his wings as if to show what he was talking about, "Then again, that's all just speculation." His head swerved over in Ala's direction, "I don't know, I mean is that true?"

Bob's chest swelled as he heard Paxton call him by his 'real' name. So the boy had listened to him! No one seemed to listen to him! The brass craned his neck around to put his head under the boy's hand. He liked this boy!
Ala wasn't sure what to say. "Uh... well, yeah... It's true." Why was her dragon such a blabbermouth?? Here she was, being asked out on a date. What a surprise! She ran a hand over her hair, the spikes dipping down for a moment under the weight before springing back up. "Uh, yeah. Sure, Friday night." What else was one supposed to say? After all, Paxton was a guy... and a pretty good looking guy at that...
"You've never climbed a tree?" For a girl who spent most of her free time doing just that, it was a bit hard for her to grasp. But, then again, her two little sisters never climbed trees either... just her older one.

Heh, Paxton was pleased to find that Ala's dragon had warmed up to him. Sometimes more important than impressing the parent, was impressing your friends, erm, date? Well, more important than making a good impression on the parents, was making a better impression on the dragon. Despite thinking that maybe mum or dad could breath fire, the dragon actually could. He was lucky he had said the right thing to bob, then again, if you had been listening, it would be hard to know what to do.
But, ah, she said 'yes', he could breathe a little easier. Though, if Ala had said no, in truth Paxton would have been surprised. The lovebird thought himself a good judge of character, an Ala didn't seem like the kind of girl to blow him off, even if a bit reluctant to say yes. He was just so tickled pink with himself that he rather tripped as she questioned him. Oh, right...
"No, if I want to get up somewhere high, I fly," he brushed a hand up along his arm, messing the feathers for a moment, so that Ala may see he was covered in little tiny ones. Of course it hurt to run his 'skin' in a direction it didn't really want to move in, so he quickly pressed them back down. In all honesty he had climbed a tree before, but that was something he had done when younger and he wasn't really an expert....so just a little white lie, right? "It'll be good though right?" He gave her a little wink, "Bet your an expert."

Bob already approved of this boy. Well, he approved of anyone that listened to what he had to say. And being called by his 'real' name had just drove the nail on in on their relationship. The brass was glad his girl had agreed to the date. She needed older friends, plus maybe he could get treats like at the last one?
Ala blinked a bit as Paxton stumbled. "Oh." She eyed his arm for a moment. She just had fur and those feathers looked really interesting. "Well, I guess the good thing is you fall, you could fly and keep from getting hurt..." She seemed to be teasing him a bit. She wouldn't let anyone she taught how to climb fall, ever. Of course, she couldn't really imagine someone falling. But not everyone was built for the activity like she was. "I guess you could say that..." She grinned at the boy.

Would Bob be attending their date? The thought didn't cross Paxton's mind, but for sure Meri would count herself out on anything Paxton did outside of the classroom or compound. Sometimes she went with him, but when he was choosing to act like a complete idiot, as he was now...she really wanted to scold him badly. He shouldn't lie like that, even if it was a tiny white lie. Heh, really that boy! Sometimes Paxton just made her get so--so riled up! "Paxton!" She huffed, turning around to march back and bite at his sweater. "Home!' I want to go home right now, I've had enough of you fooling around with this stupid girl. Not that Ala was really stupid, but anyone whom fell into one of Paxton's traps as she had...well, they couldn't be quite worth it.
"What? Wouldn't risk you're life trying to catch--" he was about to finish the sentence with 'me', when he tripped for a second time. Marigold had come over to leave a nice new hole in his very nice new sweater, with her teeth. "UGH! Dragon, what is your problem?" He tried to swat her away, but would never with the intention to truly hit her. "Guess it looks like its my time to split was," Paxton said with a bit of a strained frown. It was no good in trying to stay with Ala, it appeared that Meri had gotten into one of her moods and would not be having it if Paxton decided to stay.
"But Friday, right?" He didn't quite feel like exchanging numbers so instead he grabbed her hand, giving her a small peck on the back of her palm. This way it was a promise. "Just wait for me at the entrance after classes I'll be there." An that was that, now he just had to catch up to his dragon whom had already gotten several feet ahead again. He gave himself a good running start and was off, her following a bit after. It wasn't a formal goodbye...but they would be seeing each other again, right? Cool.

Alaqua was slightly startled to hear the gold dragons suddenly speak. And then promptly start to pester the boy. She forgot he'd even started to ask a question at first and blushed when he grabbed her hand. "Yeah, Friday. See ya then." She came to a stop and watched him run off.
Bob snorted and nudged the girl. "Come on, 'La." He gestured for the girl to get on his back. Once she was settled, still looking in the direction Paxton had gone in, they took to the air. The brass rolled his eyes at his silly girl. But, she was making friends her own age... that was good, right?
