JoJo sat in a small clearing, staring at a projection screen set up on a tree. His mind was too focused on the pain of tight, moderately burnt skin to wonder how on Earth it got there. He scratched absently at the bandages that dotted his body. Vaguely, he remembered that he was supposed to meet Tolfitken here.
He found the softest bit of grass he could and eased himself down. He could still see the firey namir burning out of control like a wildfire, Tolfitken right in the thick of it. He had burnt himself trying to get her clear, but he wasn't sorry. Fire had taken too much from him already.
He yawned and looked around, listening intently for any sign of Tolfitken.

Tolfitken stumbled into the clearing, her balance still a little wobbly from blood loss. Her eyes were looking to the ground as she muttered, "Left, right, left, right, one foot after another..." The smell of singed fur still rested heavily in her nose, but that wasn't as bad as the sound of pain in the voice of someone close to her, or the sight of his form stretched out on the ground. She was allowed to get hurt; it was in her family to like physical pain, but those around her were off limits. She was still mentally kicking and stabbing herself that if she hadn't lost her temper non of this would have happened when her ears picked up a solid sound, one that wasn't in her head. "Hi..." she said, her gaze drifting up to greet JoJo before falling back to the ground so she could make her way over to him without tripping over her bandaged paws.

JoJo spotted Tolfitken and tried to mask his concern with a wobbly smile. "Do I look as bad as you?" Wincing, he struggled to get up and crawl toward her in turn, realizing how ill that joke seemed.
He was glad at least that most of the injuries were cuts and gashes, not burns. He had rather she not be hurt at all, but at least he could focus on his own burns instead of someone else's; that kind of detachment would undoubtedly remind him even more of his very first friend, and how fire had callously stolen him away.
Reaching Tolfitken, he panted with the effort and smiled at Tolfitken, trying again. "You know, between the pair of us, we almost make a whole Namir, huh?"

"Not hardly as much," she tried to grin, pausing when he reached her to catch her breath. She was almost bandaged from head to foot, though as JoJo had already surmised it was mainly cuts and scrapes from Obsidian's claws, her having been in closer radius to the Namir emiting the flames than he had been. Her back all through her ribs was bruised from when she was flung against the tree, making her wince as she laughed, "Yep, almost a whole..." She carefully inspected him, her brows furrowing worriedly at the extent of the damage he had received on her behalf. "I brought something that might help," she said, pulling out a plastic tube filled with some salve, "It should lessen the pain and help prevent scars from staying..." Which was a little more than she could say for her already stitched self, but she figured a few more stitches wouldn't really make a difference on her. If he were to suffer a permanent reminder of the pain of her fight she would never be able to face him fully again.

JoJo smiled as he reached for the salve. "Thanks." He sat up and began to gingerly unwrap the bandages so he could apply the salve. Luckily for him, the worst of the burns were 2nd degree; he assumed it was because he had jumped into the fire not long after it began to blaze, and he had heard somewhere (not that fire trivia was something he tended to seek out on his own) that the longer a fire was allowed to blaze, the hotter it became.
He actually felt glad for a reason to take the bandages off. He appreciated Tolfitken's gesture, but they felt very confining, and though he admitted that he really wasn't in any shape to do much moving anyway, it still irritated him. As he rubbed it on, he looked over at Tolfitken and smiled. "I'm actually glad you didn't take my gesture the way you did the last one. I was preparing to stay out of it, because I did take a good guess as to who that was, but when I saw her using fire....." He left the thought unfinished and concentrated on lathering his burns in salve.

She nodded silently for a moment, trying to work out what she had done in her mind. "I think it's because she was involved," Tolfitken said, "I lost myself so I wasn't even aware that I was fighting with anyone... I needed someone to bring me to my senses before I killed her or got killed myself trying..." She tried to laugh again and smiled apologetically, "And right after I said I wouldn't die that easily and that we were supposed to have fun... I'm sorry... You got hurt, and it was my fault..." It was all my fault, she thought, her ears drooping and her gazing falling until it rested on her paws once more. She was glad the heat of the fire seemed to have dried out her eyes, otherwise she could see herself looking very pathetic right now.

"Well, we all have people we wouldn't mind going up to and gently tearing to ribbons; I've got two of them. But if I went up against 'em I would probably lose too. Sometimes it's good to have someone looking out for you, though I'd still have to get used to it."
He finished and handed the salve back to Tolfitken. "And it wasn't your fault. I declared fire my enemy long ago; I chose to run in there and make sure you didn't burn to death. Fire took so much from me....I always try to stop it. Besides," he added brightly, "These'll heal."
He paused for a second and sniffed the air. "Did my nose burn too, or do I smell popcorn?"

"Yeah," Tolfitken nodded again, accepting the salve and chancing to look up, "Fire's another of nature's deadly beauties..." She perked up a little, her nose wriggling as she tried to smell past the singed fur, "You know, I think I do, too..." Looking around from her crouched over position, she spied a giant tub of popcorn sitting next to a giant cushion leaning against a tree by the projector. "I think I found the scource... And that chair looks really inviting," she said with a smile, beginning to crawl over to it.

JoJo smiled. "Wow......popcorn and chairs in the middle of the woods with a projection screen; what're the odds?" He limped over to the cushion and sat on one end, sighing as he felt it smoosh beneath his tired body.
"Now all we need is a mo-" He blinked as a tiny clicking noise came from nowhere and the projection screen lit up. "-vie." He chuckled and watched as the opening music blared around the clearing. "And Sweeney Todd too. How awesome is that?"

Tolfitken sank herself into the other side of the chair, reaching across the side of the chair to drag the tub of popcorn over until it sat at the foot of the chair between them. Looking up as the projector began to roll, she plucked out a piece of popcorn and smiled as she reached for another, discovering it was not just popcorn but kettlecorn. "Very awesome, I think," she said with a grin, bobbing her ears painfully yet happily to the music.

JoJo's nose twitched, smelling sweetness. "Is that.....kettlecorn?" He reached into the bucket and pulled out a piece. "It is. He used to bring this stuff to the forest sometimes. He loved to munch on it. Anything sweet....." He cleared his throat and focused on the opening credits, humming along as quietly as he could, and watching the trickle of blood make its way to the sewer. "That part always looked neat to me, although I used to wonder who's blood they were using."

Her attention turned sideways to listen to JoJo and the movie at the same time, and she looked somewhat sadly to the kettlecorn and then back to the movie when he cleared his throat. Everything seemed to have some reminiscent quality of the boy, and she sort of wished she could alleviate his apparent constant thoughts of the boy as they seemed to torment him so. She nodded, her gaze coming back into focus, and commented, "Yeah, it does look cool, did you find out who's it is?"

JoJo looked over at her once, wondering at her sad expression, and told himself that he would try not to think of anything depressing (unrelated to the movie) so that Tolfitken might cheer up in turn. He looked at her and smiled. "No, I never did. Although it struck me as being really vibrant and thick; maybe it was the type stored in one of those creepy bank places."
He watched the ship come in and the story of the barber and his wife, and he was hit with a twinge of sadness. To have your love taken away because someone else wanted her more; the situation wasn't quite the same, but it tended to remind him of his mother. He wondered sometimes what started the human race catching them all the time. If it was a person, he hoped he had passed on in the worst possible way.

Her head cocked to the side again as she pondered about the creepy bank places, but she was distracted again by the movie. Or, more actually, the songs in the movie. The tale of the barber and is wife got her blood to heat a little, reminding her also of love and mothers, but more the mother's tending to be the one to love another more. She shook her head slightly to keep her mind more on the movie, glancing at JoJo to see that his attention had been stolen by other thoughts as well. She actually joined in singing when Mrs. Lovett repeated 'poor thing, poor thing', estimating fairly accurately when she was going to do so, her sweeter voice matching perfectly with the singing Mrs. Lovett's.

JoJo cocked his head at the scene, seeming mesmerized by all of the dancers and creepy masks. He had chuckled a few times at the worst pies in London, but seeing that scene raised an old question to his mind. He turned to Tolfitken. "You know, I never quite got just what it was the judge did to the wife to make her scream like that. And with all those people pointing and laughing. It must have been something really awful, to poison herself afterward."

(Believe it or not, I didn't know what he did either until Jamie told me. XD I love being naive.)
