 Symphony hurried along the path, her belly swaying below her. In the recent month she had become much larger than usual, and now she knew what it was. She was so excited, wait till Nirvana heard! Their own happy home of nirvana would grow, encompassing two, possibly even three more! She whinnied, calling out his name with a high note of song in her voice. She walked up the few steps to the spire of hill with the tree by the lake, where they had met the first time, the second time fallen in love, and now the third, perhapes the best time of all. She stood there, taking in life and love.

It did not take long for Nirvana to arrive after hearing the familiar chime of his name. Symphony is her name and what a Symphony she is. Such a mare deserved to be sung a symphony of her own in her honor but unfortunately he was not as vocally talented as she was. The best that he could do was bask in her music and enjoy the nirvana that they had found together.
"Symphony!" he called in return upon seeing her. There she was, as aglow and breath taking as the first day they had met. But there was something that wasn't the same about her... He slowed as he grew nearer and squinted to make sure that his eyes weren't deceiving him.
Is that...?

She burst out with excitement, "Nirvana, we're gonna be parents!" She almost danced in place in her happyness. "In just a few days!" Her eyes shone, then she became nerveous, what would he say? They had never discussed this sort of thing before. She hoped dreadfully that he wouldn't be scared, or unhappy. She was scared, but in a good way. She couldn't believe that the little kicks and thumps inside her, would soon be little kicks and thumps against the hard packed earth, with shrill little foal whinny's to follow them.

His eyes shut reflexively so that he could meditate on what she had just said. They were going to be parents.
His eyes snapped open again and his heart felt so full of joy and love that he thought it might carry him off into the sky with it. "Symphony, my nirvana... This is what we were made for." He couldn't explain it any better than that. It was such a feeling of rightness... such a knowledge that everything was happening as it ought to.
"This is what was meant to happen. This is fate, destiny, auspicious events incarnate." This must be what it feels like to fly for the first time. He looked at her swollen body and was filled with almost more joy and pride than he could bear.

Symphony snapped out of her worries the instant Nirvana spoke. Just that first syllabal of his voice made her feel at ease, that nothing was going to happen. She knew he couldn't sing soprano, most couldn't. But maybe if he sang alto, like Veln... "It is fate, destiny brought us together the first time, the second we fell in love, and now the third I tell you that I am bearing our children." She gave him a soft nuzzle on his neck. This was how things were supposed to be.
She pondered her thoughts, then realized Nirvana was probably waiting expectantly for her next word. She said slowly, and thoughtfully, "You know Nirvana, out children will be musicians, I am sure of that. But you, their father can sing as well. Would you like to try singing? Not soprano, surely not, but perhapes Alto?" She grinned, and added, "Alto is very loooooow like thiiiiiiss. Lower though. You can reach notes I cannot down on the music scale." She looked at him with a playful glint in her eyes.

An awkward chuckle escaped from Nirvana's lips. "Sing? I think that perhaps you do my voice excess credit in your expectations." He enjoyed humming as he walked from place to place but it was nothing compared to Symphony's voice. He swung his tail uncertainly behind him. There was no harm in attempting it, was there? The worst that could happen was that he'd fail miserably and she'd laugh at him. There were many worse things in life than being laughed at... such as disappointing one's lady friend by not even trying.
"But I'll give it the attempt nonetheless." He drew in a deep breath that expanded his ribs. "Hoooooooow iiiiiiiiiiiis thiiiiiiiiiiiiiis?" He managed to hit one note fairly well and didn't stray from that one note. His voice was so far untrained and unadventurous but it was not the unfortunate screech that he had feared it might be.

Symphony smiled and nudged him with a wing tip, and said, "Yes silly, sing!" She drew in a deep breath and belted out a song she had heard someone singing once, "Sweeet hooome alaaabama!" Then smiled at him. "Go on, its not so hard!" She watched him as he drew in a deep breath of his own and his ribs expanded.
"good," she murmured, then listened as he sang. He hadn't been trained in the art of song like she had been, but his voice was filled with pure, unrestrained raw talent. Not so much as hers, she didn't think anyone had that much, but Nirvana had much more than the average soquili.
She clapped her wings together and said in delight, "Nirvana, we'll make a singer out of you yet!" Then she thought of something, "Sing a note, waay high up heeeeere!" she waited a second, then added in a very low voice, "Then sing a note waaay dowwwn heeeeeere" Soprano, or alto? she was wondering.
