The children were grown and spreading their wings, literally speaking. Of course, that didn't stop him from worrying about his little girls and keeping an eye on them for a few months to see that no harm came to them. They were his first born and he was like any father, protective of the hurt the world could deal them. Thank the skies, they were stronger than those of their age.
But with his time focused on them and his mate returning to her duty as the next-in-line-protector, there hadn't been much time for them--alone. So they had planned to reunite, reinforce their love that had first started off as duty bound.
It was true, Wild Wind hadn't honestly felt an inkling of love for Maelstrom when they first came together. They had been a perfect match intellectually as well as their lineage. But once she was with foal, he felt a different emotion stirring in his heart. Perhaps it wasn't that happily-ever-after true love mambo-jumbo, but it was something.
When that feeling started to be replaced with fear and worry that whatever it was was leaving them, he had confronted his mate that they needed some quality time, just the two of them. And so he stood under the flowering fruit trees as arranged to await his storm to come to him.

Maelstrom felt an odd mix of overflowing pride and sadness as her little girls learned how to fly. Nothing could have made her happier to see her own offspring fulfilling their destinies and take to the skies as one of the gifted race. However, she also felt herself losing her grip on them. They were growing up, flying the proverbial nest. And while Maelstrom was certain that they would remain with the herdgrounds in the forseeable future, they were no longer her little babies.
Maelstrom would have never guessed herself as the maternal sort. She had always been a twin herself, and she and her sister had a lot in common with the two fillies. They had been catty and proud and scared of nothing. She didn't think herself the lovey dovey type or the mother type. But since meeting Wild Wind and even more so, since seeing the eyes of her own daughters upon her, she had changed. Somewhere, she knew that Cataclysm resented not having the same connection with her sister any more. But Maelstrom just hoped that her sister could understand the happiess that she had some day herself.
So when Wild Wind had nickered to her, asking for her to meet him beneath the shade of the flowering tree, it was with a blush on her cheeks and a fond smile to her fillies cavorting out over the adult grazing grounds that she nosed under the cascading fronds of the tree to met her love.
"It has been some time since it has just been the two of us, Wind." She said in a husky voice.

He turned his head towards her, a few flower petals adding color to his mane. "Indeed it has been," he responded with a knowing smile. His bi-colored eyes roved over her form, taking his time to enjoy the pleasure of just seeing her. He was indeed blessed to have a mate as fine as her.
"Naturally, I will miss the interruptions we have over the year." He ambled over to Maelstrom, nuzzling into her mane and taking a deep breath of her scent. He could easily get drunk just by being near her.
Now that he was closer, her could see the slight strain of worry at his lover's eyes. "Ugedaliyv, do not worry. We raised them the best we can and they are the pride of the herd. They will do us well." He nudged against her cheek with his muzzle, trying his best to ease her fear.

Maelstrom smirked with a soft, dry chuckle. "Yes, our 'interruptions' have found their own wing now. I am sure it will be no time at all that they are making us all even more proud."
She leaned against Wild Wind, loving the feel of his velvet-wrapped muscles against her shoulder. He was strong and everything she could have ever hoped for in a mate. Their children were fine, beautiful and every bit the spirit of their herd. It was hard not to think of herself and her sister Cataclysm when she saw them - frequently together, sharing secret glances at each other or a knowing laugh. But she and her own sister had been growing apart. She could sometimes feel Cataclysm's lonliness. She could only hope that some day Cataclysm herself would know the happiness that Maelstrom felt and would understand her choice.
"It is hard to remember what it was like before their arrival. But... I seem to remember moments where it felt like the meadow was filled with clouds - soft and fragrant. And dizzying races between the peaks..."

His smile turned to something mischievous as she regaled about their passionate times. Yes, she was still a mare that could turn his blood hot by just looks alone. He gave a playful tug on a piece of her mane before turning away from her. A n** at her rump and he was off further into the trees where they wouldn't be disturbed by passerby.

Maelstrom's wild spark was kindled with the tug and set aflame with the n**. As if a skinwalker was at her heels, she took off after her mate with a wild smile.
She felt like such a young mare again, off doing something she shouldn't. It was wild and exhilarating. She wove through the trees, her wings pressed close to her sides as she followed after the the black banner that was his tail.

He lead her further into the flowering trees before making a sharp turn around one. The petals were sticking in his dark mane and a branch was on top of his head. He gave her another n** on the rump, smiling the entire time. Here stood his equal, his heart. He needed her like he needed his wings. He stretched to run his muzzle along her neck in affection.

Maelstrom smiled, her cheeks darkening as she ducked her head to slip into the flowering grove. Everything seemed perfect. Absolutely perfect. A light laugh bubbled from the normally serious mare as she looked up at Wild Wind, the petals clinging to him, the branch on his head. He looked so handsome like that.
With a smile, she gingerly took a petal from his mane between her velvety lips, her tail whisping behind her. As he ran muzzle lips over her, she craned her neck with an approving whicker.
At this moment, she knew exactly how lucky she was. Everything she had ever wanted - everything she didn't even know she had wanted until she had it had come true. A fine mate, strong children, a healthy herd, the approval of her parents... she felt like she were in a dream, but she never wished to wake.
((Adding a note here as of Oct 7, 09: since it's been quite a while since this RP had any activity, I'm going to go ahead and consider it inactive. No hard feelings whatsoever, I'm just trimming down my rather intimidating list of active RPs I check routinely. If you would like to pick it up again and continue it, just drop me a PM smile )).

"Ah, that's the happiness I want to see," he whispered against her fur. "The soft sounds of contentment before the building of the storm." He gave a throaty chuckle while he continued to preen his mate. He showered her with attention, removing the dirt and grime he found in her gray coat. It wasn't a required duty, but a task to show his devotion to his mate.
"Is the grove filled with soft and fragrant clouds again, asiule ehu?" He looked into her eyes, the glimmer sparkling on the surface giving the answer before she replied.

She turned her head, letting her drowsy eyes meet his as she crooned in approval as he planted the velvety kisses on her neck, preening her fur.
"It is, Wild Wind. The scent of spring flowers and the distant wild river. The snows are melting, and the time for new life has returned."
She leaned into him. She did not usually show this softer, 'weaker' side of her - and would never show it to any but him. But, she ultimately trusted Wild Wind. He shared her beliefs, her pride, and he had stayed by her side through the foaling, helping raise their daughters to become strong, confident mares.

He unfolded one of his wings, draping it over the back of his mate as if to better support her while continuing his attention down to her whithers. New life, something their children would soon learn for themselves, but did that mean they, the parents, couldn't experience it themselves again?
He lifted his head to tug gently at her ear before whispering. "Let's tempt the fates again, agigau." His grin was wicked looking.
(( Sorry, my mother pulled me away, so response is short and crappy. If you want, you can do a fade out, etc. and I'll pick up from there. ))

Maelstrom's mouth twisted to a mischivious smile as she pressed her body more closesly against her mate's. "The Spirits have been kind to our herd, love. Perhaps they will grant their blessings to us once again as well."
She followed him deeper into the glade, and surrendered herself to his gentle-yet-powerful guidance.

He laid beside his mate, a wing draped over her back in a semi-cuddle action. He took a deep breath, letting it out in a very content sigh. He loved knowing he could coax her to such heights with simple words and action. She lived up to her name very well, away from prying eyes.
"Windstorm and Vortex were a great blessing to us. They will make good decisions and bring joy to the lands like we have." He leaned over to nuzzle behind her ear, the lingering touch of affection to back his words and show his pride. "We've done what we can for them. It's disheartening to know they've flown the proverbial nest, but it's not like they're out of our reach."
He let out another sigh, this one heavy with loss. He knew he could share that deeper side of himself with just his mate. "I can't help but feel like there's a building storm. Something that could be a dividing force, something that may help or harm them in the future."

Maelstrom exhaled a long, contented breath. It had been far too long since she had done that - it made her feel young again!
"I know they will, My Wild Wind. They do their sire and grandsire proud." She nuzzled against him again. "And they have not flown so far. But perhaps, it is the best. That they no longer need the guidance that we provide them. That they now run confidently on strong legs and soar the skies with the strongest of our kinds. It leaves us time to ourselves once more."
An ear flicked back at Wild Wind's concerns. "There is nothing that our herd is not strong enough to face." She responded with unshaken confidence.
