They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Let's discuss breakfast and share recipes for what we make.

What Should You Eat?

Any breakfast is better than no breakfast, but try not to have doughnuts or pastries all the time. They're high in calories, sugar, and fat.

Just like with other meals, try to eat a variety of foods, including:

* grains (breads and cereals)
* protein (meats, beans, and nuts)
* fruits and vegetables
* milk, cheese, and yogurt

Here are some breakfast ideas:

* eggs
* French toast, waffles, or pancakes (try wheat or whole-grain varieties)
* cold cereal and milk
* hot cereal, such as oatmeal or cream of wheat (try some dried fruit or nuts on top)
* whole-grain toast, bagel, or English muffin with cheese
* yogurt with fruit or nuts
* fruit smoothie, such as a strawberry smoothie

For fascinating information on how breakfast is eaten around the world, check out the wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakfast

This is what I had today

Eggs with Tomatoes & Tortilla

- 2 eggs, fried with a soft yolk. (add whatever spices & herbs you like)
- 1 tomato, sliced into wedges
- 1 tortilla, cut into quarters and toasted in a pan so it gets all crispy.

Maybe it's from having an overabundance of tomatoes, but I've really come to enjoy having a fresh tomato with my breakfast. It's not too sweet or savory but brings a nice balance to the meal. Yummy juicy tomatoes.

What you posted looks good XD

I either have cheerios/cereal item and juice
French toast ((no sugar, no syrup)) ((which you told me how to make : D ))
Orrr a garden omelet with salsa ^^

The other day i made some great porridge with cinnamon and raisins, it was my first time making it outside a box, hehe XD
But i need to start waking up earlier in the winter to make it <3

Also, does anyone know good ways to make smoothies at home? The other day i bought one from Smoothie King for $5, that's too bloody much...I know it can be made with ice, but will that break my blender?

Fruit smoothies are great for breakfast!!

I generally dump anywhere between 1-2 cups worth of fruit into a blender. I then add about a tbsp of honey and a tbsp of flax seeds, lots of cinnamon, and add in soy milk until the liquid reached the 1 cup line in the blender. If it want it all cold and slushy I'll toss in some ice cubes.

You can also add yogurt or bananas to make your smoothie creamy.

I never measure I just toss whatever into the blender and add a liquid. It's rare to make a smoothie that turns out "bad" but I'll still drink it because it's all fruit and other good things.

(I can't wait for the cold weather so I can start having oatmeal again)

They shouldn't! I thought the whole purpose of blenders was for crushing up ice and making smoothies. wink

Most blenders have a "crush ice" mode, which is often the highest speed. Just pulse that to break up the ice and then blend until you get a consistency you like.

Mmm, breakfast... I went so long with eating breakfast, I could kick myself now! That spurred from my mom's obsession with weight, but I've broken free from that.

This morning I had two pieces of toast with peanut butter, blackberry jelly, and sunflower seeds ninja I woke up late and wasn't very hungry, lol.

On school days I usually eat two or three waffles (Dewaffelbakers whole wheat organic blueberry waffles xd ) with a smoothie and some fresh fruit 3nodding Or a bowl of cereal and fruit. One day I woke up really late and hurriedly ate a bunch of crackers dipped in yogurt on my way to school xd Not bad, but not filling at all, lol.

And ice shouldn't damage your blender at all! If you're concered, though (or if your mom is), you can put ice in a bag and whack it on the counter or crush it with an ice pick or hammer to break it into smaller pieces before adding to the blender.

Mmm, smoothie, smoothie... I think I'm gonna go make one now xd I usually don't put ice in mine at all, so I guess it's really more like a milkshake.

I love breakfast and just can't function without it. I never understood how people could last until lunch time without eating.

I was on a big egg kick for a while. One egg and an egg white with some toast and butter. Now I just save that for the weekends. Right now I'm eating cereal with almond milk or oatmeal.

Couple times during the winter I made oatmeal in the slow cooker. That turned out real good. You start it right before you go to bed and it's ready when you wake up. Easy! 3nodding

Breakfast is a funny thing for me. If I have to get up early (before 8:30am) the thought of food makes me ill. I used to go without breakfast, but have found a great meal replacement powder called Vega.

If I can wake up and go about doing stuff, I will eat breakfast. Right now it's Natures Gate cereal with natural yogurt and rice/almond milk.

Pixie - Did you see that TV article on Cheerios using the discarded wheat husks as a form of energy?

Today's breakfast was scrambled eggs with mashed sweet potatoes.

The sweet potatoes were sweet and simple. I mashed some previously baked ones in a hot pan with unsalted butter and about a tbsp of honey. I then added a little black pepper because I'm weird and think black pepper + sweet potatoes is really tasty.

Muesli Style Oatmeal

- scottish oatmeal
- shredded unsweetened coconut meat
- chopped or slivered almonds
- dried cranberries
- lots of cinnamon

Cook all the above with a pinch of salt. When it is done add in some raw honey for sweetness.

I'm officially in love with scottish oatmeal, which is simply coarsely ground oats. It has a much better texture than the mush that rolled oats tends to turn into. And oatmeal is good for you. heart

I wanted to try your Scottish oatmeal - what is the difference between that and regular oatmeal?

Today! I had quinoa crepes with orange juice and a bit of jam. Super light without the boggyiness of regular pancakes fur me. Nummy. :3

I've noticed quinoa being used in a lot of stuff lately. My sister recently mentioned quinoa based pasta.

Regular oatmeal is typically oat groats that have been steamed and flattened to make them quicker to cook. Scottish oatmeal (also known as steel-cut oatmeal) is basically chopped up oat groats. Scottish oatmeal has a better texture for me. Some say it's more nutritious than rolled oats but I don't know anything about that.

It's just personal preference imo.
