My horse is having some back problems(he has a long back) and I want to know if I can do anything to help before he goes to the vet(chiropractoer) thanks!

OH and I haven't been riding him but could i work him on a lounge line once a week?

I would think that lounge line work would be ok if kept controlled.

How is his weight?

When was the last time he saw a farrier?

It has been many moons since vet school which was the last time I worked with horses. I hope your baby feels better soon.

Tell us more about him!

He's been to the farrier recently like last week and the farrier said his feet were fine. he's a a healthy weight according to the vet so we're going to take him to the chiropracter.

More about him....He's an american bashkir curly(they have curly hair like me) He's a chesnut with stockings and a blaze. He has the best eyes*amazingly cute* He's kinda lazy but he works well for me*it's funny watching other people try to ride him cause he doesn't listen. He's kinda spoiled but thats okay. He's my best buddy biggrin So thats my stormy
Oh and my instructor owns his half sister*we found that out after I got his papers biggrin

Cool! I have heard of the breed, but have never seen one.

It sounds like you are taking excellent care of him. I am sorry I don't know more about horses to help you. I only tossed out those ideas because some people are not aware that problems with the feet of a horse can show up elsewhere.

It has been my experience that many horses will be lazy if you let them. You have to be a good leader or they might not give it their all. Some of them really have favored people too.

Good luck with your boy, I hope he feels better soon. Do you have a picture of him? I would love to see it.

Hi I'm sorry to hear about your horse's back pain. I suggest that you try heating up some water(only as hot as bath water) and soak some epsom salt in it (about 1/4 cup per gallon). When it dissolves soak some towels with it and wring them out a little. Then lay the warm wet towels over his back. It should help to ease the pain for him. It will relax his muscles. Make sure that it isn't too hot so he won't get burnt. It is like a hot bubble bath soooo relaxing. If you can do it 2 or three times a day it he should show some improvement. Oh and after you take the wet towels off run a dry one over him to dry him off. You can rub his back too if you want with your hands or a soft brush. They love it! Hope that helps. I love horses. I' started working with them about 15 yrs ago and I can't think of anything else in the world I'd rather do. I hope he feels better soon.
