CHAPTER I
. . . Dr. Richard Calgori's Amazing Dancing Doll . . .
introduction
"Gentlemen, this fallen angel is the illegitimate daughter of art and science. A modern marvel of engineering, clockworks elevated to the very natural process which even now is in your blood, racing, your eyes flashing at such irreproachable beauty. Here is Gaia, here is Eve, here is Lilith, and I stand before you as her father. Sprung fully-formed from my brow, dewy and sweet; she can be yours and yours again, for her flesh is the incorruptible pale to be excused from the wages of sin."

CHAPTER V
. . . Come My Love I'll Tell You a Tale . . .
story
xxxxOnce there was a young man who thirsted for knowledge. He wanted to learn everything he could about the world around him and how it functioned, so he devoted himself to the study of sciences, and he learned much.
Time passed, and the man’s love grew to include a beautiful woman; thus, he made her his wife. But his passion for knowledge burned brightly still and he devoted all the time that he was not with her to his work. He created many strange and marvelous things, countless small trinkets to impress and amuse his new bride, and the bride was pleased with her husband, and proud of his work.
Years pasted and the happy couple lived well on the profits of the man’s inventions. They were happy and in good health, but they longed for a child. One evening the wife came to her husband and told him she was with child. The man danced with his wife, and they were happy.
But as her pregnancy progressed the woman grew frail and sickly. No longer could she rise in the mornings to visit her husband in this laboratory, so her husband brought his inventions to her.
Her favorite was a wind-up doll; a tiny ballerina who danced in the palm of her hand. The wife loved to watch the tiny doll dance, and kept her by the bed in her sick-room.
Near the end of the pregnancy the woman’s health took a drastic turn for the worse. Late one stormy night she delivered a stillborn baby girl, sick with grief and shock and weakened by her struggle the wife died.
Brokenhearted the scientist buried his wife and child.
Desperate to regain some of what he had lost, he man began to study the forbidden science of alchemy, wishing to learn the secrets of life and death. He took the wind-up ballerina, intent on creating a homunculus of his young daughter.
His attempt failed, and the doctor nearly lost his life with the explosion of his laboratory. He spent almost a year recovering from the accident, and when he was well again he rebuilt his lab and threw himself into his original work.
But he could not put the idea of creating an imitation child out of his mind. When he heard of a place called the Cabbage Patch, where using such children were supposedly born every day the scientist knew he could not pass up the chance to let someone else succeed where he himself had failed. . .

xxxx William xxxxxxxx This clumsy young man is Calgori’s assistant and apprentice. The doctor took him in after the explosion. He’s a border in the household and is awed by young Isabella. William is eager to learn, but tends to trip over everything in the lab.

CHAPTER VII
. . . If I Believe What I Say I Believe . . .
music
Isabella's concept is based very heavily on inspiration drawn from music, specifically the group Abney Park. This is a break down of songs related to Isabella and her world. Enjoy!
Isabella xxxx Herr Drosselmyers Doll by: Abney Park xxxxxxxx This song is literally the inspiration for the Isabella's design. Although the song itself has a very sexual undertone, and is very different from what I have in store for Bella. Still, the idea of a wind-up doll created by a strange man is ever-present.
Lyrics | Youtube
xxxx Sleep Isabella by: Abney Park xxxxxxxx Isabella's theme song. A beautiful, bitter-sweet lullaby. Honestly, this song brought me to tears the first time I ever heard it.
Lyrics | Youtube
Dr. Calgori xxxx The Secret Life of Dr. Calgori by: Abney Park xxxxxxxx This song is where the idea of the good doctor came from. A beautiful witty song about a poor lonely scientist trying to hold onto his youth.
