Sand burned his paws, making him nearly dance. It was odd, this place of no rain. The desert had always been a mystery to Haki, and now he dared to explore. It just wasn't so great, now that he was here. The ground was hot, the air was dry... It was a misserable place. And what was worse was, he heard no beat of the land, no music in the ground. It was nothing but mute, shifting sand.
And he was lost in it.

There was an intruder in the lands. The old Firekin followed the scent, followed the tracks, followed the lion. Slavery was nothing he intended to press the intruder into, but he also wasn't about to kill them. It wasn't in him to kill a lion simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Rough them up, but not kill them. As he crested a dune, he spotted the dark dot moving in a north-eastern direction. A grin spread across his maw. Their first intruder... Trotting down the slope, he moved to intercept.

He was starting to get tired, wanting nothing more than to be on solid, unmoving ground. The adolescent groaned, stopping to sit. Even in the almost deafening silence, though... He heard someone approaching. When he looked over his shoulder, he spotted a massive red lion heading straight for him. And he didn't look happy. As with anybody, his first reaction was to get up and turn tail and run.

When the smaller lion broke into a run, Bodaway did as well. As he moved, his paws placed on the sand in the way only a lion of the desert could. In no time, he caught up, forepaw stretching out. With a single swipe, he sent the other lion tumbling and was on him. A roar errupted, showing the adult's anger at the intrusion to the lands.

As he hit the sand, Haki rolled and tumbled. The roar wrung in his ears, making him pin them back. Oh, he was in some deep trouble now! Why did he come this way?! Doing his best to scramble, the adolescent found himself sliding and sinking in the sand. It was not easy for him to move here, being born and raised out on the plains. As the red lion loomed over him, he couldn't help whining. "Please, don't kill me!"

As he gave the intruding lion a hard smack to the side, Bodaway moved closer. "Why shouldn't I? You come into my pride's lands, and don't expect anything?" A massive paw pressed on the dark lion under him, pushing him into the sand. Claws extending, he glared with the fire of many generations of pride.

Panic gripped at the dark lion's very core as he tried to get away. "I-I-I didn't know this was your pride's lands!" He swallowed, ears down. "I didn't find any markers! I didn't know!" He whimpered, really wishing he'd not come this way. "Please, just let me leave, I'll never come back!"

About to hit the simpering lion again, he stopped. Something about him... He leaned down, sniffing him with a frown. Ishara had spoken of, some time ago, a cub that hung out with her great-grandson... This lion met the description of 'dark with swamp-green-brown markings'... And he smelled very... Familiar. "Who are your parents?"

The question took him off guard, making Haki freeze. At the threatening growl to answer, he shrank back. "K-Kinamasi and Hasani Tau!" Without much prompting, he seemed to feel the urge to spill all he knew. "M-my aunt on my father's side is Ishara, I don't know how many cousins I have! A-and my mother's sibblings are--" A frustrated growl from the older male had him shutting his trap.

So this was Ishara's nephew... And indeed the lion the little white and purple cub had been hanging around. But where was that cub now? The matter on paw now, though, was this lion before him. "Nephew of the lioness Ishara... Get out of here, and NEVER come back. If you do, so help you gods, if I'm not the lion you meet..."

Jumping up, Haki started to run. He had to stop, though, looking back. "Why...?" It was a simple question, one that held so much power. It spoke volumes, even for a single word. It was the universal question, and Haki had to know the answer. Why?

He stepped back, glaring, though it'd lost the same angry fire. "I know your aunt... I will not harm you, but I cannot say the same for others. If you meet your younger cousins... You'll see me again." With little more word, he turned and went back, realising... He should probably speak to Kidondo, finally meet the pri- No, he wasn't a prince anymore... He was the Regent. He had to remember that.

Taking the saving moment for what it was, Haki turned, starting to run. After a moment, he looked around, wondering... Which way was he going? The sun was no help, he didn't know if it was morning or afternoon. Swallowing, he gave up, simply running. He had to get out of the desert, and he had to stay AWAY from the desert, lest he wanted to die.
