From Laurell's blog:
The Big Announcement at Dragon Con
Another interesting thing that made this Dragon Con different from the ones before was that I got to make an announcement.
One of the most common questions I get is: When are the Anita Blake books going to be in a movie or television show? My usual answer is; there’s nothing to tell and I just won’t answer the question. I stopped answering the question because no matter how innocently I answered people would get on the internet and make more of the answer than there was to make, causing rumors to spread. But just before we went to Dragon con, I had decided if anyone asked the movie/television question that I had a new answer. But, for the first time ever, no one asked the question.
Panel after panel at Dragon Con and no one asked the right question. Finally on Sunday afternoon for my Laurell and a microphone panel, the question was asked. I could finally give the very carefully prepared statement. The statement is below.
"I’m thrilled to announce that we have joined forces with a first class Writer, Producer, and film studio. The rumors are true - a movie and a possible TV show based on the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter 16-book series is in the works. Stay tuned to the website for updates and details."
We made the announcement at the con, so this time the rumors are, indeed, true. But what I’ve put above is all I can say at this point. Someone asked, a follow up question about casting. My reply; I’ve given you the only information I can give you at this point in time. More to come.
Sorry to be so mysterious, but I thought you’d rather have some information than no information. Enjoy.
Any thoughts?

I can't decide if I'm thrilled or horrified... On one hand, it would be great to see the characters come to life on the big screen. On the other hand, they could really ruin it. Let's hope that doesn't happen. Whatever they decide to do, they need to do it right.

I was going to make an announcement but you beat me to it. I'm so excited about it but I am worry who they are going to cast and the script. It could be total hit and miss.

I think I am more going for the said but true theory on books into movies I think that in the way we might be lucky like the Harry potter books in the other sense we could run for the hills and cover our eyes and ears and hope that we dont melt from the crap they will put on the screen. Just cross your fingers.

For the first set of books I'd rather see TV, to get more of the story in with out heavy edits time restraints cause. Unfortunately the later set of books got to a point of over sexual description and activity that even HBO execs would be too embarrassed, though it might just get on air anyways.
I hope that when they do cast they stick to her love of extreme height differences. I disliked the comic because everyone looked tall and thin, especially Anita.

I read this on her blog as well and had mixed reactions. I did not know how to feel, I'm still not sure if I even like the comic book adaptations. I just can't make a switch between the characters that I live with (in my head) and the representations in the comic book. I think it will be interesting to see, how everything turns out. Who knows, what the future holds. (On another note, this was also the day I found out that Lance Armstrong was going to try and win another tour de france, I still don't know if I like that idea ether. Must have been the day for it....)

It is exciting, but movies are always horrible compared to books. Now a tv show sounds interesting... but a movie is more likely no?

I can't wait, but i'm also scared i'm going to be disappointed.
We'll just have to wait and see who the cast is, and then wait with bated breath and see if it'll live up to expectations.

I will admit I know I am not liking the comic all that much it is to heavly inked and the artist is putting to much interest in shadowing most of the features. But then also i am not to interested in the book after Cerlean Sins...Actually before that the first twelve were her best works. I think she got to far into the sexual interestes that it just turned into a bad romance novel with violence that after reading her last 3 books they left me thinking....Where is the plot...What the heck happened to her morals....and we please get Richard a girlfriend and get him some psychologica help and soon. And most of all what happened to the last little Lupa running around in Anita's head. Yes she was a really psycho but she was fun. I mean really I had to put one of her books down cuz it was just to much.

I have a feeling that it'll be similar to the Harry Potter series, too. Either read the books and be disappointed with the movie(s), or don't read the series and find the films to be highly enjoyable.
Personally, I've kept away from the HP novels and the films are great fun, while I couldn't possibly un-read the fascinating tales of Anita. Darn my love of otherworldly things.. ^^;

I think at some point it will happen that you will look at the book and cry at the characters they have choosen to play your favorite character or you will scream WTF! whoes idea was this. So the pain will come. Or you might try to ignore it and shut yourself in a little room with no windows or internet...I am hoping there is a little room for me cuz no one can play Jason and Nathaniel. Come one the boys hair touches the ground......

I believe a movie would be alright if it was written and casted well but a TV series would be so much better. A TV series would be better since they can take a little more time to explain what is going on, maybe even add flashbacks so that those who haven't read the books, get a better understanding. It can also not be as restricted in time. Maybe a book could last maybe 5 episodes...an hour each....so you never know.
She may change her mind. I'm sure she will make a great choice since she is a great writer...but she really needs to cut down on the sexual parts cause it really ruins the books. I don't mind one or two, but a book filled with them kind of ruins the plot. She can use the sex in the Gentry series but not as much in Anita Blake...or am I the only person who thinks this?
