While Mommy was a very lovely, pleasant person, she just didn't understand that sometimes people needed their space. Lacy had decided that it would be best until Mommy was distracted before slipping away and taking a walk. Her seal plush in hand, humming vaguely to herself, the orca child had at last gained a moment of precious Alone Time as she followed the creek that flowed behind their house and into town. She didn't think that perhaps there would be nasty strangers or ill-tempered animals set on eating her, but then Lacy wasn't of the age for forethought.

Henri enjoyed nights, and Isabella seemed to be growing fond of them too. This was why the were lounging on a bench, a citronella candle lit by their feet. They watched the ebb and flow of the water and the little night-fishies swimming against the current. It was a nice father-daughter moment.

Lacy had walked over an hour when she came upon the beach. She stopped dead, her heart jumping in her chest, then she set off at a clumsy run straight for the water. She threw her seal plush off to the side unthinking of where it would land or who it would hit, her single-minded focus on getting into the water.

While the plush didn't hit anyone, it did land quite near Isabella, who picked it up and toddled to the shore.
"LADY!"

A mere hairsbreadth away from the water, Lacy skidded to a halt and blinked. She looked over her shoulder at the kid who had her plush.
"La-CY," she corrected politely. "Not La-DY."

Oh, okay! So Lady had a name! That was nice!
"LACY! SEE-W!" She waved the sandy plush above her head, wanting to give it back and keep it safe.

"Yes," Lacy said, a bit bemused. "Sea'."
She paused, biting at a fingernail, then elaborated a bit.
"Norman."

With a wince at the noise level - really, was it necessary to be so loud? - Lacy shook her head.
"Goin' swimmin'," she said patiently. "You c'n hold onna him."
And with that, she turned and proceeded to walk ankle-deep into the water. Hmn. It wasn't the ocean, but it'd do just fine.

Isabella took a moment tow writhe in childlike indecision, and then ran over to Daddy, placing the seal in his lap and patting it.
"Nouw'man," she said softly, and then ran for the river, laying on a river rock.

Wading around in the shallows, Lacy flicked her tail thoughtfully in the water and slapped at the occasional mosquito. She noted the oddity of a child lounging on the rocks and waded over, head tilted to one side in speculation.
"Worm?" she asked finally.

"No," she said patiently, pointing directly at herself. "Whall." Then she pointed to Izzy. "Worm?"

Certain the girl was just making words up, Lacy gave up and nodded obligingly.
"'kay," she said mildly, wading a short distance away. Then she came back again. "Lacy," she repeated, pointing to herself. "Whuss yer name?"
