Keahi sat in Harbor, staring out over the water. The sun setting over the water was rather beautiful. Turned the water colors as they reflected the last rays of sunshine for the day. The boy was turning the turtle shell over and over in his hands. This was a bit confusing, this whole Game thing. He still wasn't exactly sure what he was supposed to be doing in the whole thing.
"Don't worry about it, Keahi. You'll figure it all out over time." Honu's reassuring voice soothed the boy.

The Blacksuits had apparently given up on finding Fish at home, a fact he appreciated because it meant that, even if he couldn't move back in, his parents were safe. In his comfortably worn aquatically-styled clothing, Fish fit right in with the denizens of the Harbor.
But this wasn't his life anymore. Fish was living in the Scene, doing his best to forget the childhood he was missing, smoking pot, chilling with his adopted family of hippies, exploring the twists and turns of young love, and waiting for the next plot twist. But those were few and far between lately.
Harbor was nice this time of day; the water turned to fire in the fading light. Fish strode along the waterside, watching people go about their business, unloading boats after a day at sea and readying them for another.
The moist place at the back of his mind bubbled.
Remember that plot twist you were looking for? asked Poseidon, nudging Fish's attention in the direction of an overweight young boy by the water.

"Oh ho, you seem to be running into them left and right." Honu's statement confused the hefty boy, who sighed, a bit cross at the god.
"Must you always be so vague?" He asked, frowning. "Is it another godling?" The boy fought the urge to look around and see who it was. "So are you going to have me eat cookies with this one?"
"Oooh, sarcasm. This one's god could be a bit dangerous to me if you tick him off... So don't."
"Thanks, Honu... Great advice." Keahi continued to stare out into the water.

"Is he trouble?" asked Fish, trying to as nonchalant as possible as he moved towards the boy. He could feel Poseidon hesitate, as if the Earth-Shaker was uncertain about the answer. "Is he?" Fish asked impatiently, slipping out of the flow of pedestrian traffic to lean against the railing on the side of the boardwalk.
I'm not sure, replied Poseidon.
Fish grunted in frustration. "Which means?"
I'm not familiar with his god, Poseidon explained.
Fish snuck a quick glance at the boy.
"He's got a turtle shell," he murmured. "Does that help?"
A water god, maybe, bubbled the moist place. Fish regarded the water, watching the acrylic shades of sunset dance across it, and thought. Things had calmed down recently, but he had seen a lot of newbies. It could only mean things were about to get interesting...
...But Fish had a head start on all that, didn't he?
Don't get cocky, warned Poseidon.

Under the pretense of stretching and shifting his body, Keahi managed a look around. His eyes fell upon a boy stopped a short distance away. "That him?" He muttered, his eyes turning back to the water.
"Good job." Which Keahi took as a yes. So he was starting to get the hang of this. Still, why couldn't they write a manuel and hand it out? Would be much simplier. "This one's been around quite a bit. He must be strong to have survived this long. Be careful."
"Gee, thanks..." Keahi sighed. He was still new at this and the second godling he runs into has to be one that's been in it for a while. The kid would know a lot, but would he give up any information? After all, they were all against each other, though Honu had said alliances were formed rather often. At least, temporary ones. After all, only one was going to win in the end...

"I'm not getting cocky," replied Fish, rolling his eyes. "And if I am, it's your--"
A frantic burbling from the god cut him off.
"What?" asked the teenager.
He sees you and knows you for what you are, said Poseidon. Fish sighed and ran a hand through his hair, brushing his bangs in front of his eyes. He looked cautiously over at the child again.
"I've got at least a year on this kid," he decided. "He's literally green."
He's a sea god, said Poseidon, with a fair amount of certainty. This could get messy.
"Oh bother," sighed Fish, continuing to watch the boy. "Can I leave?"
No.

"He sees you and is watching..." Honu warned the boy.
"Yeah, I'd guessed that.." Keahi muttered, his fingers running over the turtle shell. With a sigh, he stood and put the shell in his pocket. "Guess I'd better go meet him..." Approaching this boy was scarier than meeting with the girl... But he might as well get it over with. He headed towards Fish, pausing a short distance away to lean upon the railing. A comfortable speaking distance.
"Hey man, what's up?"

Fish looked warily at the boy and then out to sea. He wasn't the type to attack kids in broad daylight, and he didn't have any reason to yet. The Blacksuits were probably still watching this area, anyway.
"The sky," he said deliberately. "And you are?"
Even if he wasn't one to attack newbies on sight, he could still play to their ignorance of the information currency.

"Keahi. Nice meeting ya..." He trailed off, glancing at the boy for a name. He heard a sigh from Honu, but ignored it. Perhaps Keahi was a bit too nice of a guy to be a godling. Perhaps this would all change him. Maybe not. Only time could tell.

"I'm Fish," replied Fish, blinking at the younger boy with pupil-less blue eyes. Keahi, huh? Names were important in the Game. Names were powerful. He learned that when he traded two parts of his to Persy. But Fish was a nickname. Fish had no power over him.
"As far as meeting you goes," he added, and trailed off, studying the boy.
He's not trouble yet, bubbled Poseidon helpfully.
"We'll wait and see," concluded Fish. "You've been to see Miss Floros?"

Keahi nodded. "Fish. Interesting name..." He grinned, eying the boy for a long moment. What was with this kid? He seemed hesitant to say anything. "Miss Floros...?" The boy thought for a moment.
"The flowershop woman. The one who gave you the shell."
"Ah, yes. I have."

"So you're in on this madness?" asked Fish, a bit of a laugh in his voice. He leaned back against the railing, and then climbed up onto it, balancing by tucking his toes around the edge.
Would you please be a little... competitive? asked Poseidon.
"Sure," muttered Fish under his breath. He was thinking on the spot now.
"Have you been... initiated? Yet?" he asked.
That's using your head.
I have no idea what I'm going to do.
You'll think of something.

"Madness?" Keahi glanced back over at Fish, his face showing his confusion and curiousity. Whoa, wait. What was this about initiation? Was this kid serious? It was hard to tell, it seemed the boy could tell a lie with a straight face. And Keahi was bad at telling when someone was lying... and unfortunately, was a rather bad liar himself. "Er... depends. What's this... initiation... all about?"
"Be careful with this one..." Honu added, as if Keahi hadn't known that already.

"Just to see if you can keep up..." said Fish, trying not to smirk. Maybe he'd earned the right to mess with the newbie's head? After all, he was the one who'd already survived over a year in this competition.
And with that, he focused on the water beneath him, drawing some of it up to form a baseball-sized lump in his hand.
"Catch," he said, and lobbed it at Keahi.

Keahi glanced at Fish with some confusion. Keep up with what, exactly? The boy was curious about that. But he didn't voice his confusion. Until he saw what Fish was doing. "Wha...?" He just blinked as the water hit him, splashing to soak a good portion of his body. "Why'd ya do that?" Keahi demanded, staring at the older boy.
