I have just finished reading "mortal engines" by Phillip Reeve.
i would highly recomend it to everyone in this guild.
once you get over the mild communist undertones and the fact that the main characters are teenagers and perform acts that teenagers couldnt really perform, it is an amazing yarn.
action romance and airships. what more could you want.

YES.

The daring! The passion! The zombie robots!

[Although I found Tom and Hester to be pretty believable, myself. I'm not quite sure what you're talking about there]

I didn't like it quite as much as His Dark Materials, even though the protaganists were a lot more believable and likeable than that monumental brat Lyra.

Got a secret
Can you keep it?
Swear this one you'll save
Better lock it, in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave

...I was just contemplating creating a thread for this book. Oh well, I guess this means that it was not just me that thought it was steampunk.

Also, just a warning, but it is a quite short book.
If I show you then I know you
Won't tell what I said
Cause two can keep a secret
If one of them is dead…

I've heard of that book, it sounds excellent. I shall have to pick it up sometime.

Does anyone know of any other steampunk books? Besides Jules Verne of course. I dearly love to read, so any steampunky book suggestions would be much appreciated.

Has anyone read Airborne by Kenneth Oppel? It was pretty good... an easy read, not that sophisticated and possibly geared toward younger readers, but it was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it. There's also an entertaining sequel but I can't remember the title.

Well from the cover atrt I am very impressed indeed! I might actually read that! heh...but at the moment I am reading The Difference Engine(William Gibson). Just started that and it's pretty good too. smile Another pretty good/ok read is the Steampunk Anthology. It has a lot of good short stories and dime novels. smile (I think thats what the book called them)
