I've heard some lolita girls talking about how if it ever got mainstream it wouldnt be fun anymore. Being diffrent I mean. Saying anything that hits the mainstream dies off quickly, so what do you think?

Honestly, I don't think we have anything to worry about. Though there have been more Victorian-esque trends recently (more opaque rounded collared puff sleeved blouses, longer loli-able skirts) there is no way that these clothes without some alteration would be considered real lolita. These clothes will never be the right shape or length on it's own.
Plus, even if it does one day become mainstream, who cares? A fashion doesn't become less fun because of the numbers of people who wear it..

i agree with the both of ya. i wore lolita to school today and some people hate it, some love it. the problem is that other people may try and copy (like some peeps at school) and they alter it s that it looks super retarded. i like a few knowing lolita and others just staring. tis makes me feel unique.

The best lolita to me, is generallythemore extreme, people whoreally get into it. I can't see a lot of people getting into it as much as the current wearers.

lol. There ain't no use of trying to keep it a "secret". Lolita has been in multiple smaller magazines and on European TV, and us (the NYC group) is gonna be in the New York Times, and that's actually gonna be the second time Lolita fashion's been mentioned in the Times.

Well, Im super curious to see if lolita gets popular even for a little bit. I highly doubt it because lolita is pretty expensive and girls today dont want to dress modestly and frilly.

Lolita has long been out and about in the Western world; there have been interviews, documentaries, photo shoots and more. It will never, ever be fully mainstream in the way that goth [real goth, I mean] will never be fully mainstream. Some accessories or influences might leak in, but since there's so many other fashions that take inspiration from the same original sources, that's really not a big deal.
The style is a bit too much at odd with contemporary aesthetics to really take off as anything other than what it is already. I don't think anyone outside of the stereotype of goth-anime-otaku-fanbase-folk will really ever dive in head first. The west [or at least the United States, Europeans seem to experiement more as came up in anther discussion], is a bit too focused on conformity and regularity for something that crazy looking to get a good foothold with "normal" people.

You know what..if it ever does get mainstream, great. Id love to see more styles of Lolita being attempted because I for one find what is to be mainstream now quite boring. Jeans..ugh. ::shudders::
AmaniKitty~when will this be in the NY Times? I was at the meet, I was dressed in boystyle with a newspaper boy hat x3

-C'est la lune qui conduit la danse...- That's you? o3o And I have no clue right now, because they still haven't called us back about the audio interviews. But once we get the audio interviews done and over with, then we have to wait until they tell me when it's gonna be in an upcoming newspaper. I'd wish they hurry up and call us and get it over with though, especially before NYAF comes. :/ -...quand le soleil sera couché dans ton âme froide.-

Agh I hate when people don't call back..its what NYAF is doing to my brother and I. We want to be able to interview people but its kind of hard to do that if NYAF isn't going to return our emails -_- or we get the great..contact this person. We contact them..a week later, "Contact so and so.." x_o are you doing a panel this year? You did one last year correct? :0 sorry to get off topic xD;

I'm gonna be in the panels this year, but I'm not the planner for them. :3 I'm just speaking and modeling this time.
NYAF... always do that. -3- Especially when the con gets closer.

Yeah, they're extremely unorganized. Particularly if you're trying to work with them about panels/ special guests and whatnot. And then month before the con, you can't get in contact with the show manager PERIOD. That's how crazy it gets.

Even if Lolita does become more common in America (I doubt it will ever become mainstream), there are so many little rules and details one must follow and observe, it would keep the 'real' Lolitas in their own little group, and there wouldn't be so much blending. There would always be a place for a devout Lolita.

-...quand le soleil sera couché dans ton âme froide.- yeah we're certainly getting a taste of that now. Its annoying as hell because if anything we're doing them a favor by promoting them and they're not helping one bit
