Eyal yawned as he traveled back toward the jungle line. He had to meet up with a cub soon or she'd get very irate that he'd wandered off... again. Still he was hungry and had failed to catch anything decent.

He let out a heavy sigh. So hungry. He glances off and by chance catches sight on a grayish colored blur. Curious, annoyingly so, the old Warrior forgot he had a previous engagement and walked out toward the blur, finding it to be a male lion. Maybe he could ask for an assistance. He continues to approach, unsure if he was friendly or not.

It wasn’t a bad day. Not too hot, not too humid. There were a few clouds dotting the skies, the trees bountiful in their share of shade. It was nice, he felt, to have such a day for rest and relaxation. So much of his time was spent looking through things and exploring, along with the newer tasks of tending to a mate and raising a daughter, that he had almost forgotten what it was like to have a day just to nap and enjoy himself.

He was lying under one of these nice, shady trees, eyes shut while a comfortable smile sat on his face.

The male, Jethro, didn’t know anything about anyone else who might have been around, lazily keeping his eyes closed even though he wasn’t actually sleeping. The male didn’t mind that he might be putting himself in an open situation- who would attack a large male lion?

Eyal's tail twitched as he carefully got close enough to see it was another male. His ears went back slightly. He was close to the hidden home of the cub that was treating his wounds. He pawed at grass under his paws before pacing slightly. He didn't seem to be doing any harm but perhaps he could be of help.

"Hello stranger." He grunted sitting down a few yards away. "Are you lost or just passing through these lands?" He figured this lion was either a rouge or a member of the hidden pride. After all, he'd only met Siku out of it. He was sure there had to be more lions within it. His eyes were drawn to the violet shell on his leg and he curiously studied it. Why and how was it attached to his leg?

Jethro looked over at the male heading his way, doing nothing as the animal sat down not far from him. He wasn’t in the mood to think things threatening, his day just too relaxed for threats. Smiling warmly, he nodded a hello to the other, tail beating against the ground as he waited for the male to speak.

“Hello to you too,” he offered lightly, “I’m not lost. I just came to find a nice place to rest. Found one right here under this tree. I’m not from around here, true, but I never think myself lost. Just… on an adventure.” He chuckled at that. Indeed, the male was always hard-pressed to admit when he had strayed too far from home. But this time he felt fairly confident that he knew the way back. “I hope I’m not disturbing your territory or something,” he added after a moment. “My name is Jethro. I’m nothing to worry about, I assure you.”

Eyal found he rather liked the light nature of the other's voice. It reminded him of his own King. "I see... No, this is not my territory. I'm merely staying here until my wounds are healed." He motioned to the long scar on his forearm and the ones across his hindquarters.

He hesitated, as if he was unsure then crept closer, laying down nearer to him. "And I am Eyal, Warrior Chief of the En Gedi Pride..." He stated perfectly rehearsed and said with pride. "Though you may not be from around here, would you know where a good place to hunt is? I'm afraid I found..." He looks off as if it pained him to admit it, "lost my prey due to my wounds. I haven't had anything larger then a rabbit in sometime."

Jethro listened, captivated by the mention of rank within a pride. “Oh really? That’s pretty cool. I’ve never met someone with such an important-sounding title before! Now I worry if I’m not treating you with enough respect.” He smiled at that, bowing his head just in case.

“Sorry about your wounds,” he added after a moment, “they look pretty serious. Were you in a fight?” He didn’t like confrontation, his heart too soft for fighting. Of course, that didn’t mean he didn’t know HOW to fight, of course. He was quite capable of slicing someone’s throat open if they intended to harm something, or someone, he held dear. This lion, though, didn’t look like the kind of creature he needed to worry about.

Seemed like a nice enough guy.

“Well, no, to be honest I don’t know any hunting spots around here. But I’d be happy to find one for you,” he offered, “no disrespect, of course, but I want to help you. If you’re comfortable with it, I’d be happy to try and catch something for you.”

He knew he would have no trouble doing it; he was a great hunter.

Eyal's ego grew a bit with the compliment. "You don't have to be so formal with me. I'm not even close to my pridelands."

He gazed at his shoulder. "A waterbuck was attacking a young cub. An insane thing. I had to attack it and send it off. It was able to land a few blows." He says as if the terrible wounds were nothing to worry about.

Despite his aversion to needing help, he was hungry and perked up at the mention of the other aiding him. "I would be grateful at this point. The cub I previously mentioned is healing me but she can't do much but rabbits and mice. Needless to say I'm dying for something larger."

“Oh,” chuckled Jethro, “well alright then! But anyway, it is nice to meet you. Whether or not you’re near your pridelands.” This was a really cool moment for him. One that he would remember for quite some time to come.

Listening to his story, Jethro frowned. So he had gotten injured protecting someone else. That settled it- now he really had to help this lion. Anyone willing to put himself in harm’s way to save another was worth lending a paw to.

Grinning, he nodded. “I think I saw some gazelle not far from here. Dragging one back here won’t be a problem! Why don’t you try to rest for a bit? I won’t be too long.” He moved away from the lion at that, heading off to find a hunting spot. The scent of food was in the air, guiding him for the most part. He didn’t know if the male would stay put and wait for him, or if he would decide to tag along and see how well Jethro hunted.

The red-maned male gave a rare smile. "You as well..."

He glanced up, his green eyes twinkling with interest and hunger. So this lion was willing to help him. That was nice of him he'd have to find a way to repay the favor. "No need. I'll follow along." He responded trailing after him with is light limp. It didn't hinder his walking much but when he tried to run his body protested.

At least soon he'd be healed. "Thank you. Is there a way I can repay you?"
PostPosted: Tue Sep 23, 2008 2:19 pm

“Nope,” hummed Jethro, “there’s no way to repay me because I’m not looking to be repaid! So don’t let it worry you, alright? This is just a nice gesture looking for no reward and you don’t have to think that you owe me something because of it.”

Sniffing around, the scent of Gazelle was soon attuned in his nostrils. He moved away from his new-found friend, heading to find himself something for the older, at least he assumed him to be, lion to eat. Once in a good position, he waited in the grass, inching closer to a young gazelle just reaching adult-hood. It wasn’t aware of his presence- not until it was much too late. While the others yipped and darted away, Jethro leapt at his target, latching onto her hind-quarters so easily and with such force that the gazelle could do nothing but fall down under his weight. Moving to her neck, Jethro sank his fangs deep into her flesh, letting the blood spill between his jaws.

It was over, it seemed, before it had really even started.

Eyal stared at this new lion a powerful sense of respect. He didn't think he could do that; he couldn't accept help and not feel like he owed the other. How strange a situation. "Thank you..." He murmured walking after him.

The red maned lion kept out of sight. It was easy for his golden pelt color to blend into taller brown and gold grasses but green made him stick out horribly.

He was good. Very good. He stepped out and walked to Jethro keeping his distance. He'd met more then one lion that became obsessed with protecting the kill even if they wished to give it away.

"Thank you, my friend. You are very kind. I'm sure some day it will return to you ten fold." He voiced with a small smile on his maw. It was rare and almost didn't seem to suit his features.

Jethro laughed, shaking his head. “Don’t think anything of it!” he said, “I mean it. I’m happy to help. Plus, I find hunting a lot of fun. So getting to do it was enough of a reward for me.” He liked seeing the other smile, though. That was kind of a reward as well. He would be a liar if he said he helped others for absolutely no rewards at all. He enjoyed seeing them happy.

That was his drive.

Stepping back, he sat himself down, letting the other do what he wanted with the meal now before him while he went about tending to his paws. The blood that stained them needed to be cleaned- he didn’t want to get home and have his mate think that he had been hunting out on his own and had brought nothing back for the family.

He wasn’t watching the other, thinking it a little rude to stare at someone while they were eating. The fact that this lion was still a stranger to him and he should probably keep an eye on him just in case didn’t seem to enter his mind. He felt content to assume that his new found friend wouldn’t randomly leap on him and claw out his eyes.

"You are a very talented hunter." He complimented as he moved toward the kill. His green eyes made sure, out of habit more then anything, that he was away from it before he started to tear into the meal. Few animals would dare tempt to steal from two adult males so he assumed eating here was safe.

It didn't take him long to finish off how much he needed. The richness of the meat helped restore a loft of his strength. Once he was done eating his fill which consisted of most of the carcass he stepped over to the other lion, licking his maw and laid down. He flicked his ears against the gnats that had started to buzz around and seemed mellow and content. "Thank you. There is some left if you wish it. It is your kill."

Jethro chuckled. “Well, thank you,” he hummed, warm to the compliment. Even though he felt confident enough on his own with his hunting skills, he was still happy to hear others find something good in them. “I get by well enough, I suppose.” False modesty wasn’t his intention, he just didn’t want to look like some kind of a show-off if he embraced anything full force. Who knows? This lion was probably ten times better than him; if he acted like he was all that he would be made a fool.

Better to be careful.

Once the other was finished, Jethro peered over at the kill. He wasn’t altogether hungry, nor was he one particularly fond of left overs. Seemed a waste to let the rest of the meat rot, but he was certain some kind of scavenger would eventually claim the remains. “I’m alright for now,” he said casually, leaving the meat alone. “So are you going to rest up now? You’ll probably feel better with both food and rest.”

He chuckled. "We have a female hunting group in our pride and I must say, you show more execution then most of them." He began to clean his paws, rather enjoying this male's company. He was well mannered and pleasant to talk to.

He nods in understanding then raises his ears in Jethro's direction. "Yes... I have a young cub who is versed in healing taking care of my wounds. I'll probably return to her soon." He gazed out toward the jungle line and stretched slightly. It'd been a long time since he had a full belly. "And yourself? Where are you headed?"
