okay so in case someone out there isnt already familiar with this: gorgoroth broke up sometime last year. gaahl (3rd singer) and king (8th bassist) kicked infernus (the founding member) out of the band. they claimed he wasnt pulling his weight. since that time, there have been numerous legal battles over who will be using the name gorgoroth for future recordings - gaahl and king's new band, or the new band that infernus is forming. right now, the courts have decided to side with gaahl and king, giving them the rights to use the name gorgoroth. does anyone else think this is bullshit?
this is not about what you think of the band. this is about the fact that a band's 3rd singer and 8th bassist teamed up and kicked out the sole original member, not to mention the guy who's idea it was to even start a band called gorgoroth in the first place. it's about the fact that they did this because he wasnt doing enough work in the band, when he did the majority of the work on all of the albums EXCEPT for their most recent one (which king composed entirely on his own). it's about the fact that the courts sided with these interlopers who, while they were in the band, don't truly have any legitimate claim to the name that i can see. it's also about the fact that the band's record company acknowledged infernus as the sole member of gorgoroth, and that the courts have made that decision null and void.
does anyone else think the courts are in the wrong? how would you feel if your artistic creation was taken over by two people you'd hired and then the courts agreed that the interlopers had more of a right to use the name than you did?

Well, if Gaahl and King keep the same Gorgoroth sound then I agree the courts were right seeing as how they are the new Gorgoroth continuing the Gorgoroth sound with the most Gorgoroth members in it. It doesn't matter who the founder was or who any of that. The band I'm in now theres only one origional member, but its not his band becaus without us, he would have no band the band would be nothing.
However on the other side, that guy should get the rights if he came up with the name it just seems fair. I know if I were in the place of Gaahl and King I would skip all the bullshit and give the guy the damn name. Just tell fans that Gorgoroth changed their name and the fans wouldn't care.

That answers both statements. i dont hate gaahl. i preferred hat as a vocalist, but gaahl isn't bad, and i'd give future recordings a chance (if he stopped using the gorgoroth name).

It's like how Sharon Osbourne ended up with the rights to the Black Sabbath name. It's not right in any way and doesn't make much sense, but if you've been beaten to the punch to get a patent to the trademark and name, the reason WHY the courts decided in the favor of King and Gaahl in the first place, then you're s**t out of luck.

The War Starter It's like how Sharon Osbourne ended up with the rights to the Black Sabbath name. It's not right in any way and doesn't make much sense, but if you've been beaten to the punch to get a patent to the trademark and name, the reason WHY the courts decided in the favor of King and Gaahl in the first place, then you're s**t out of luck. yeah. it's just stupid.
