The little filly was small for her age; going on four months and still as small as a 3 month old! Dad said she was small because she was the daughter of an Angel. And that she burned off all her growth when she ran.
She snorted and shook her head. Small and wingless. When they were younger, Akiilani didn't see any differences between her sisters and herself. They were all girls. They all had manes and tails. They all had legs (she just used hers more).
Astra was maturing into a fine-looking filly, black raven wings making her look more dramatic than she actually was.
Malta was the color of their father, her back the coloring of a early night sky, stars speckled across her back. She took after Mom in flight.
And Lani? Lani was like Dad. A lavender gray with a light dust of stars on her back. And no wings. And where she could see Astra prancing off with a prince charming and Malta becoming her mother's little thief, Lani was a racehorse at heart.
A racehorse without wings.

Alexiel trotted lightly through the tall grasses, skipping through as if they were waves on the ocean, buoyed by four white sails. He loved days like these! The sun was shining, the air was fresh, and he was, overall, thrilled. Just yesterday, he had gone and practised his flying. And, sure, it wasn't as impressive as his mom or dad could do, but it was still something! At least he hadn't fallen on his face. Not even once!
Gleefully he stretched out his legs, lifting them high and moving rapidly. He needed to excercise them too, he supposed. No use being able to fly well if he couldn't even walk!
A flash of colour caught his eye, and he stopped, looking to where he had seen it. It, being a soquili in fact. A pretty filly, pale with a sprinkling of stars, and one red leg. Had it been closer to night time, he might not have even seen her at all. But as it was, he did, and feeling more socialble today, he moved closer. What had mom said? Oh, yes, he was supposed to be polite and introduce himself to others always.
"Hello," he said softly, tilting his head at the filly.

Lani noticed the strange Wind colt from a distance, prancing and dancing through the longgrass. He picked up his hooves with the grace of an angel. Just watching the gray-toned colt made her heart pang for wings of her own.
'But you're like me, Lani,' her father had explained. 'We're here to guard the ground, where your mother and your sisters guard the sky. You're just as loved and just as wanted, baby.'
The little Ground filly wanted to fly, though. She wanted to sail the skies. It just...wouldn't happen. Instead, she'd have to continue to make herself happy. That's how life worked.
Ears pricked as his voice brought her out of her reverie. Akiilani stepped forward, mirroring his action, then scuffing a hoof on the dirt.
"Hiya! I'm Akiilani, but everyone calls me Lani! What're you called?" Her words came out in a blur, her tail wiggling with delight.
This colt was...odd. His wings. She couldn't quite figure it out.

He watched as a flicker of emotion played breifly across her face, before the sound of his voice seemed to startle her out of whatever she had been thinking of. Alexiel smiled as she perked up eagerly, introducing herself in an excited voice.
"My name is Alexiel," he said happily. "Nice to meet you Lani. Hey, you're kinda shimmery, that's so cool!" He looked at her coat, pale violet fading into white, with just the fainest hint of shimmer. It almost remined him slightly of his mother's coat, he had always been fascinated with how it looked when the sun was on it. His coat didn't shimmer. Not that he really minded that much, but it was still one of those things that he just really liked.
Alexiel noticed her looking at him as if she was working through a problem in her head, and cocked his slightly in return, wondering what she was thinking about. Figuring he was on his way to making a new friend, and probably wouldn't be leaving for at least a little while, he shook out his wings a little, stretching them before folding them one set at a time into his sides.

She grinned, prancing around him, her legs not stopping until he told her she was shimmery. Shimmery! A new descriptive word! In that case, her whole family was shimmery!
She paused in mid-dance, watching him fold his wings back in sets. One... Two... Two? Plus feathers at his ears! Normal Soquili didn't have feathers on their ears!
"What do the wings do? The ones on your ears?" Her ears pricked up with interest.

Alex watched with interest as she considered him, looking him up and down a few times before settling her gaze somewhere near his ears, eyes wide with curisoity. His ears? Huh? Oh! The wings? He flapped them once, trying to look up, but as they were at the top of his head, his gaze couldn't quite reach them.
"ummm, I don't really know what they do," he answered honestly. "I haven't really figured it out either. I thought maybe they were to help me fly better at first, but, they don't really do anything for that."
Alex considered this, he hadn't really given to much thought to what all his extra wings did, surely they must have some purpose right? But, if there was one he hadn't found it yet. Perhaps they were just there to look prettty.
