Day by day, Imriel was experiencing increasing confidence in his ability to wander farther from his mother. He knew that his herd lands were safe, and his slowly gaining independence was now coming in a torrent. He wanted to be away, to do things, to meet others who weren't a part of the herd. He liked his herd, but it was more fun to meet new people, wasn't it? Plus, the herd was getting wise to his tricks. They knew that a gentle tail pulling and brambles in their mane was the work of a certain orange foal.

So today Imriel took the initiative to sneak away while his mother wasn't looking, straying further from her side than he ever had done before. The world was just so interesting! Today was a beautiful day, the sky a pure, crystalline blue not marred by clouds, the weather a nice, even temperature that was neither too hot nor too cold. If Imriel had had wings, he might have cursed the lack of wind and air currents that dotted the sky, but he knew nothing of that. That was the domain of his father and his twin brother, not him. He had the ground to explore, and that was good enough.

Shaking his little tail feathers, Imriel trotted onwards, staring up at the sky. He was paying so little attention to the ground that the small gully took him by complete surprise, sending him head over tail into the bottom. Well, that hurt. Scratched up, but otherwise okay, Imriel stood unsteadily and shook himself to rid his body of dirt. Who had put that hole in the ground there? Was that a trick on him? He looked suspiciously around, expecting to see one of his siblings chuckling at his misfortune, but there was nothing. Well, the hole in the ground must have always been there. That meant Imriel had wandered further from home then ever. Oh dear, this was even more exciting! Was he even still in herd lands? He must have been. There was no way such a little foal could wander that far.

A blue bird trilled a song in a nearby bush, low to the ground, lower even than eye level for Imriel. With a mischievous grin, the colt snuck up close, sniffing at the bird, causing it to dart away in sudden flight. "No wait, come back Mr. Bird! I just wanted to be your friend." Pouting, Imriel wondered if he would ever make any friends that weren't part of the considerably large Isigliatt herd.

Where her ruby-feathered wings could carry her easily, they were tucked away as the mare made her way, step by step, through this new land.

She huffed to herself as she walked. Two days into leaving her home and her family and she'd already met a little filly in dire need of saving and a unicorn who was hellbent on getting her heart out from beneath its layer of ice.

Oh, and she'd killed a skinwalker pup, washing his blood from her pelt in the ocean under the light of the moon.

Aleksei was hardly innocent, but she did what she had to do. She did was she was trained -- no, what she was born to do.

And it was this day that she trotted along, unaware of any herd boundaries she might be crossing, unaware of anything except the now. Ears swiveled forwards at the soft voice saying -something- and a little bluebird flew right past her head, his eyes full of surprise.

The hunter gave a smile and popped her head over the bush to gaze down at a fiery-pelted colt with, more than likely, an equally fiery temperament. "Hello there," she murmured.

Imriel jerked his head up at the voice, eyes widening comically as his legs scrambled away from the noise, depositing him neatly upon his feathered rump. What on earth was that?! It looked like a soquili, but she was so bright. And she had so many wings! Two wings on her size, wings on her feet, wings on her head! Could she fly just using her head wings?

Initial surprise over, Imriel scrambled to his feet, snorting lightly. "Hello." He had none of a foal's usual reluctance to speak to strangers. "You have an awful lot of wings there, don't you? But your color is pretty. You look like the top half of me." Cocking his head, Imriel regarded the angeni mare boldly. Finally, something in his face seemed to register that he thought her worthy and interesting enough to talk to.

"I'm Imriel. Do you live around here?" He wanted to nibble on one of her wings when she wasn't looking- especially one of the lower ones, the ones that didn't seem wholly substantial. He wondered if his mouth would pass right through them, or if he would taste feathers in his mouth. Feathers were unpleasant, but he really wanted to know now!

As the little colt backpedaled, Aleksei chuckled to herself. He was like her, when she was a foal.

Ear feathers flickered backwards, more sensitive to noise than her ears themselves. They were radars, in a way, and sometimes a bother!

Imriel gathered himself up again, coming close, and Aleksei watched his gaze scramble from her fully-feathered wings to the mystical ones.

"No," she murmured, flexing both sets downwards, letting the half-wings stroke the colt's face as they came back up. They passed through silently and her ear-feathers flicked again. "I'm new to this area in general. My home is far away, in the skies where not everyone can see. I'm called Aleksei. And you, little colt?"
