Name of Location - Town of Reen

DESCRIPTION

Welcome to Reen!

User Image

This small walled town is a retries paradise of quiet evenings, old ruins, and gentle shopping expeditions. Built on the edges of the Dead Forest, in one of the more peaceful residences, the most you'd have to worry about is a chronic case of cabin fever should you be under the age of 60, or not one of the avid archaeological expeditions that grace our famous ruins of old!

Please enjoy the picturesque cottages built in and around the ancient ruins that grace our fair town with a nostalgic air in old town, or simply stay in luxury at the newer accommodation's just west of the middle wall in new town, as well as the quaint shops that are always welcoming and hospitable on both sides.

All tourist trade welcome!

Enjoy your stay.

LOCATION

Reen is a picturesque little biscuit tin of a town, located south west of Gambino, close to the prairie lands of Durem and Barton. It's a good half a day's walk from either the Fortress of Barton, or the Isle, but the pathways are well maintained by Gambino, as it is a favourite visiting place among the wealthy elderly and half protected by the impenetrable fortress that is now Barton.

PEOPLE

For such a small town, it has a chaotic mix of people either on a day trip, on vacation, excavating, or working. Populace is mostly human, though there are a few Gaian oddities that visit the main street market, selling or buying rare, and exotic items, usually only affordable to the kinds of customers that visit for the purpose of vacationing.

The streets are small, five people walking arm in arm could touch the buildings on both sides, but since most traffic is pedestrian, there isn't a claustrophobic feeling. Wagons filled with goods are even designated their own trade routes, so as not to interfere with the atmosphere, as well as to get them quickly to their deliveries.

For protection and organizational purposes, there is an in house police force, consisting of an elected head, and a group of deputies that patrol the area, and occasionally report in to the western Barton patrol. They are lightly armed for general patrol, and well fortified in the giant, piecemeal wall that hugs the town itself. The force themselves are a mix of new recruits and grizzled veterans.

Not enough to stand against a significant force without help, but skilled and ready to do their fair share. Of course with the Orc element to the East, the guardsmen are vigilant, ever supportive of safety within the town and the outlying ruins themselves.

CLIMATE

Temperate, it hugs the outside of the forest, and is ( arguably ) in the centre of Gaia as it is known, can get snow from the mountains in winter, or quite muggy in summer.

MYTH/LORE

The ruins on the outside, and indeed spaced out through the town and walls are racked with legend and tales, most passed down from generation to generation. Though most of the imagery has faded from the stone, the old folks still grumble about dark times and dark roads.

Most of the archaeologists that are excavating the site look to this as a challenge, however, and are delving deeper to further uncover the secrets buried within the past. Treasure Hunters are often selling what they find on the market, odd bits and pieces of the old days.

"Ey, hold this for me," said Sakura, throwing her jacket over the snout of the dragon that had just carried her and her companions to the outskirts of the town. Ryu visibly rolled his eyes before nudging the jacket up into the air and allowing it to fall lightly on his back. Meanwhile, Sakura was adjusting her floral shirt, seeming to be a little too long, as it nearly covered her white shorts and gave one a bad impression of just exactly what it was she was (or wasn't) wearing.

She settled for just letting it hang. Maybe she could buy something better in town, if they had the time....

"So... are we waiting for everyone else, or are we just going to storm the castle?"

The dragon landed, and Katie couldn't have been happier to get off of it. Not that the ride was horrible. The ride was smoother than the choppers. It's just the whole idea of being in the air, and not having complete control.

She was still trying to figure out what Sakura had been speaking of before Madison had interrupted.

"What about this water thing?"

As she waited for the other dragon to land she pulled her hair off of her shoulders. She wasn't sure what the plan was, but they could all hash that out in a moment.

"I think we are just going to storm the castle?"

[Vent is distracting.]

The town seems relatively straight forwards.

From where the dragon landed, the entrance is large, open, and friendly looking, if a little short of people. It's a lazy day kind of haze over it, or was that just dust? It was of course late afternoon. Katie and Sakura's group could have easily been considered stragglers at the end of the day.

In fact, someone was exiting the town gates and heading towards the dragon, open and friendly, dressed in the local colours. He seemed official without being overly memorable. Tipping his hat he greeted the newcomers accordingly.

"Greetings travellers! And welcome to Reen! Where you needing accommodation for your transports?"

Well, that was to the point. In any other place then Gaia, Sakura would be throwing this guy the keys to her car.

"Gates close soon you see, we tend to keep the larger creatures in a suitable habitat, for their own safety. Can't be too careful in these times, y'know."

There was nothing suspicious in his manner, as if people landing dragons in the front yard was a daily occurrence. Perhaps it was. Great gouges in the earth, and the large circle was almost landing pad-ish.

As Nyth landed, Asherah hopped off and padded to the ground. What a ride! Nyth landed quite gracefully and flapped her wings before folding them.

"Nice little town you've got here sir. Nyth, take it easy. If you want, you can head back into the die."

"Yeah yeah.... I want a snow cone..."

"Aroo! Arrhooo!!"

Asherah turned to Sakura and the town man.

"Gates?"

Madison at that moment slid off the dragon and began to look around the town, it was a lovely little town. She was curious about the entire town, she always was when she came to a new town. However, she had business to take care of.

Serious business.

Her attention was soon turned the others, what was the plan. What did they need to do. But before she could ask questions, a man seemed to greet them. Strange, very strange indeed. At that moment she tugged on Katie's arm in order to pull her closer to her, ask a question maybe.

Madison didn't quite trust the others as of yet. Bad experiences caused the trust issue to play a rather huge card in ones life when it came to working with others.

"Pst....Katie...Katie!" She was trying very hard to be quiet as she continued to exam the town at the same time.

Talk about feeling overwhelmed.

In another part of town~

"So."

"So."

The two men stared at each other in silence.

One of them, noticeably younger, broke the standstill first.

"Are you really sure you wanna offer that much? I mean...it's a good find, really well preserved, don't get me wrong..."

Really young, and inexperienced, as far as treasure hunters went. The other guy could have made a steal, if he wasn't so damned unsure about it all himself. He was too old for this cloak and dagger shite.

"My client said any price. So whatever I pay you, I get back, I can't lose here." Seemed a lot to argue over, but these types of things, you could get lumps of mud worth more then gold at times.

"Well, what's good for the goose..." Item and monetary value were traded over, and people parted ways, not looked at twice on the busy thoroughfare. Ten or so couples of people were doing exactly the same kind of thing, probably with more experience and less unease.

Katie approached the gate, listening to what the man had to offer. She wasn't the owner of a dragon, so that was for them to decide. Shrugging her shoulders at him, she glanced towards Sakura and Asherah.

"I guess we're getting locked in for the night."

It wasn't what she had wanted to happen, but what other choice did they have now? Sure, they could ride back to the Firebrand, but it would defeat the purpose of them coming back with news.

She would have probed further, but her arm was being tugged gently. Her eyes moved to Madison's face. The woman was saying her name, and she had barely heard her.

Stepping aside, she got out of earshot of the man to speak with Madison.

"Is something wrong?"

"Is something wrong?"

Before Madison could say anything the two of them heard a loud stomach growl, which appeared to be coming from the small rabbit's stomach. She laughed nervously, almost as though she had forgotten what she was going to say.

"Never mind. It seemed to have slipped my mind. But maybe it would be best if we searched the city even, or found somewhere to stay." She made the suggestion, but Madison was never exactly a leader, she simply suggested things and hoped someone would listen.

((Lol...I forgot what I was going to have Madi say sweatdrop ))

Katie heard Madison's stomach rumbling. The bunny was not the only one that was hungry. Katie knew how much an empty stomach could play against thinking clearly.

"That sounds like a good idea. After we find a place to stay I think we should get some food."

She moved back to the gate.

"You two decide what you want to do with the dragons. Madison and I are going to go search for a place to stay while you take care of that. If we're not back within an hour...send out a search party."

The first part was directed at Sakura and Asherah.

She glanced back to Madison, assuming she'd followed her back to the gate.

"Let's go."

And she strolled through the gate, not expecting any problems with her plan to find a place while they took care of the dragons.

Kurosakii Ichigo

"I'll go with them," said Ichigo, hopping off of the dragon's back. "You guys'll be fine with your dragons."

Since Katie and Madison were going on ahead into a place none of them knew very much about, it'd probably be best if they went in a group of three anyway. Sakura and Asherah were secure enough with their dragons.

He caught up to the two of them, following along with them as they headed to the gate.

"So what kind of a place are we looking for?" asked Ichigo, "Aren't we supposed to meet up with the others somewhere?"
PostPosted: Sun Sep 07, 2008 7:25 pm

Ichigo had just said what she was about to say to Sakura and Asherah. She nodded to his question before turning to voice it to Sakura and Asherah.

"We'll meet back at this gate in one hour. I think that should be enough time to get the dragons in safe hiding."

Looking back at Ichigo and Madison she put her finger up.

"Give me a moment. I need to make a call."

This is when she would pull the communication device from her hip. She had tied it in with her whip to keep it securely held during the ride.

She pressed her finger over the push-to-talk button that went out to Quinn, and she held the speaker near her mouth as she spoke into it.

"Old ma-uh...Quinn, we just landed in a town called Reen. I wanted to keep tabs with you, and I wanted to know if you can you pass a message to Stephen or let him speak to me a moment?"

A sharp whistle pierced the air as Sakura took a look around, looking from the man who had greeted them to the town nearby. Her gaze never actually stayed in one place, moving from this to that and taking in the sights. She didn't think of how cold this place might get; probably something she'd end up regretting down the line, as always.

"Got yourself a nice place here, chief. I think Big Red over there will be able to take care of himself, though."

She looked over her shoulder, and for about half a second you'd think she was going to do the 'who's a good boy, you are!' cutesy voice that people do with dogs. Instead, she just gave Ryu a gentle pat on the side. "You behave yourself, okay? I'll call for you if anything comes up."

She seemed to be taking to her tourist role strangely well.

As Ichigo ran towards than, Madison could only raise her eyebrow as she pieced together the current situation. He was apparently coming with them, that was odd. She could deal with that. Smiling she gave him a nod to welcome him to the group, now it was time to get busy.

The rabbit looked around for a moment deciding on a way to go, the town seemed so big, so new…so exciting. She loved going to new places considering that she was used to being within the Eastern regions of the Gaia world. She never expected to see such a lovely little town.

Little town it's a quiet village.

Everyday like the one before.

Little town full of little people

“Which way do we go? Which way do we go? OH! I want to go over there!” She acted as though she were a child in a toy store, ogling over new toys that she wasn’t allowed to play with yet. Madison turned back and looked at Katie and Ichigo grinning.

“Can we go this way?” The rabbit continued to point down one of the many roads. It looked rather pleasant to wander down, a definite tourist site.

She seemed to fit the role of tourist rather well. Maybe someone should have provided her with a Hawaiian shirt and a camera.

"I'd suggest warning him about Barton Town, but other then that, to enjoy himself as well, Latent and the sea side isn't too long away...as far as the dragon flies."

With that he turned, and made his way back to the gates.

The others would find themselves assaulted by bright colours and decorative stalls set up along the main street. The crowds, as well as the merchandise stretched from unique, to normal, to the downright bizarre. Masks, statues, food....wonderful smells of pretzel carts and pasty stands mixed in with the atmosphere.

Almost like a carnival!

People seemed happy, enjoying a break, maybe a little frazzled if they had kids in tow. It was a good day out.

~

It was, in fact, the first bar that the adventurers had passed on the way in, that an old man was speaking quite loudly. Drunkenly even.

"Boy, go get one of the officers, before this gets out of hand..." The tavern keep looked as the old drunk got up on one of the tables and sighed.

"Now Jacob, we all know there's nothin down in them ruins, why do you have to go and get people riled up like this?"

Said Jacob glowered, his equipment, most of it probably "borrowed" from the archaeology camps outside the town, was attached by strings and bits of leather. He was almost dancing in his anger.

"I seens it I tell ya! Great, big, thing, swallered a man alive it did! Nothin left but mushy red."

"I don't think it will have er swallowed him if there was stuff left over, Jacob. You sure one of the pillers didn't just give way?"

"I SEENS IT!!!" Beer flew, and the door slammed open.

"Jacob, what have we told you about drinking too much?" The officer wasn't big, but overall he screamed police, the quiet sort, who just had authority like a second friend that followed through the door.

Jacob mumbled something incoherent, still obviously very much upset.

"Well, alright then, you come down with me to the station, and sober up, and if you still think you saw what you saw, then we'll send a couple of guys out there to look."

Both bartender and officer waved at each other as the two left, Jacob still muttering and looking ready to head for the hills. The waitress came back to the bar, she'd just caught the end of the scene, coming off her break.

"What was all that about?"

"Ole Jacob spooking at shadows again."

"Folks say he's been the deepest in them ruins..."

"You wanna start sounding like him? Now get these orders ready-"
