User Image She had been following the sunrise stallion after leaving Inali with her inner demons. She was hopeful that the older mare would find peace with the words she had shared, but knew that she was having a difficult time herself. The night sky spread above them with a blanket of stars and she stared up at the winking light, far enough from Ambroise that she wouldn't disturb him. After all she had said, her "vengeance" seemed to pale. Was it really important for her to get an actual apology from him, or was she more upset that most of his words had struck true?

She'd told him how she still saw herself as and he treated her as such, giving in to her wish--a cruel lesson to learn. She felt the stirring of tears begin to trickle down her cheeks. She's brought everything onto herself: Athalus's rejection, Ambroise's cruelty, and ultimately the breaking of her family. She was truly starting to grow up. Shocking what happens when you start taking your own advice.

But first, she needed to right the wrong that was closest, Ambroise. She knew he wouldn't appreciate her interrupting his solitude, but wasn't it the proper thing to say good-bye and not just disappear? She walked slowly towards him, her heart sinking farther into her chest at what she was about to do. It was a reaction she didn't understand, but doing the right thing was more important.
"Apologizes for interrupting Ambroise, but I felt it prudent to at least bid you good-bye before I go off on my own."

He hadn't yet solved his puzzle completely. He suffered from vivid flashbacks, unsettling dreams and on most occasions felt the twinges of pain he had experienced during his trial. The agonising pulses that shot through his limbs were often unbearable at such times, but the stallion had learnt to surpress his urges. As a result he never screamed, all he did was hiss or mutter bitterly into his wings as he slept. Some might argue that such a thing was worse than expressing one's true emotions but it avoided causing disruption to anyone else other than he.

Alas, he hadn't even managed to shift his insistant stalker. Since that fateful day in which he had encountered the weeping mare, he had been subject to her company permanently. He couldn't escape her and she had very much become his shadow - in her defence she rarely interrupted him or got in his way...but it didn't make the situation any less awkward. The very fact she chose to follow him based on her own anger didn't help matters either. From the moment she had chosen such a path he had never seen her as anything more than a pouting child.

However it appeared now he was to be granted respite...

His ears pivoted at the sound of the mare's voice and after a few moments he turned his head to glance at her. What he was greeted with, could have been a mirror image of how it had all began. That weeping face that threatened to crack at any instant and yet... As he narrowed his eyes he saw something slightly different in her eyes. There was something more intense, a new strength - she was awake at last (or so it seemed).

"Of course," he nodded curtly, his expression otherwise unreadable. "I wish you luck in your endeavours." His words seemed genuine, though his eyes were void of the customary emotions one often had during farewells. He had after all, remained detatched and uninterested in the petite mare since the moment she had rejected him.

She dipped her head once at his words, the few kind ones he had graced her with since their travels. But she needed to sort another matter still. "May I speak further on another matter before I depart?"

Vidia had learned quite a bit that Ambroise preferred to be left alone or at least granted the choice if the silence had to be broken. She rubbed her face against her foreleg, removing the last trace of wetness that had threatened to break, though the darker stains from her own self-reflection were evident on her fur.

Now she was secretly regretting that she hadn't kept herself in better check before speaking to him, at least not appeared like some teary-eyed foal that was leaving a bosom buddy, something they were not at all. But she couldn't feel right with herself if she didn't at least attempt to fix the wrong from the past.

Ambroise was arguably, one of the most difficult stallions to break. Another creature would have to be incredibly creative and patient to make him crack. Self restraint, discipline and his conditioning had long ensured his survival...with such things all but replacing the need for the love or another. It was true that he had a huge amount of love and affection and received it warmly when it came from his family. However the necessity to return it to others beyond his kin was not there. He would kill for his family - he would die for his family. It was a matter of duty, but his heart also told him the same thing. In essence, it was the one and only thing that his emotional and logical sides agreed on.

When it came to a stranger, things were decidedly different. If they were in need he would deal with the matter accordingly. He offered no love, he promised no affection and he made not even the slightest attempt to extend the hand of friendship. There had only been one who had received his friendship and that had been through the aid of his mother...and it had been prior to the harsher aspects of his training. He had no need of friends, he had his acquaintances and more often than not friends could be used as a weapon.

Nevertheless, her request was a harmless one and having endured her company for this long without her interrupting him...he could permit it. With another of his curt nods, he turned his body so that he was facing her properly and waited expectantly for her to continue.

She took a deep, albeit shaky breath as she turned her body just enough to give her profile. She didn't want to see the full force of his displeasure (should there be any) with what she was going to say. "I wanted to apologize for our meeting. It was foolish of me and very naive to think that the world was filled with warmth and kindness. You've shown the truth, gave me what I sought, and taught me a very important lesson. And I thank you for that."

Her cyan eyes glanced at him once to see his reaction so far before trudging on. "Also, I forgive you for everything you have ever said and done towards me during the lesson. You may never feel the desire to actually apologize for such actions, but I feel it necessary to absolve you of any 'evil deed' you felt necessary during this lesson." Very big of her to take the necessary steps.

"So I feel it's unnecessary for me to stalk you relentlessly for such a dumb reason." She finally offered him a real smile, hesitant at first. "I hope that whatever it is you are seeking, you'll soon learn the course." Now was the time for her to leave his company. She wasn't needed or wanted anyways.

He remained quiet as she spoke, shifting his weight every now and again to relieve the tension in his muscles. He was a loner by nature and often disregarded his own discomfort as such. However, while in the presence of another and with his body twisted at such an unusual angle, it was decidedly more uncomfortable than usual. That being said, though he made no attempts to interrupt her for the most part, his eyebrow did quirk as she attempted to absolve him of his 'crimes'.

He hadn't done anything evil!

The stallion gave a slight snort at this, biting back that side of him that desired more than anything else to 'correct' her. There was a time and a place for everything and his logical mind insisted upon patience. The very fact that she was apologising was a huge step for the once naive mare to make. His immediate assumptions had been correct, she had become more aware of herself and the world around her. She hadn't learnt everything given that 'absolving' an individual of deeds that didn't exist was still an insult but...

He would excuse her.

Shaking his head slowly, the stallion continued to listen to the mare as she explained herself further. His patience had paid off and his lesson had been passed on, it had been a brutal way of doing it but he held no regrets - now she understood. In a manner of speaking, he would have been almost proud of her if she hadn't attempted to forgive him!

"Provided that you are aware that there is a balance between positive and negative aspects of this world then you shall be fine," he nodded slowly and spoke at last. "You need not concern yourself with my duties, but I would suggest that you at least take heed of yours."

While his words were vague, they were something he echoed directly from his mother. He hadn't gone into further detail, but his mother always had stressed following your instincts and your heart - especially if you were female. In essence, he was telling her to go home...

Her smile faltered, the corners turning in her confusion before she covered it up with a very stoic look, something she had picked up from Ambroise and it mirrored him almost perfectly. "You're right."

And so she turned her back on him to make her way to what she knew her next duty would be. Somehow, she would have to find Althalus and make amends before she could feel justified to return home. Home would wait, but it would be her final destination to her journey.

As Vidia moved on, she finally allowed herself the luxury of tears glittering down her cheeks. Nope, she wasn't needed or wanted by anyone, so only needed to rely on herself.
