-- AIM RP log between Abeni and Roho'eusi ((Ferrets and DFA)) Abeni had watched the sun set behind the horizion, eyes half lidded as she watched the night swallow up the sky. It had been a peaceful evening, nice enough that she felt content to just sit and watch. But now that it was night she decided that it would be better to find some place less... open. If anything, she was cautious. Or perhaps paranoid? She had to be, the life of a lone rouge was not easy. Luckily she was able to hunt for herself enough to stay healthy.
She licked at her paw while her eyes scanned the terrain around her. She'd had a vision a couple days ago, telling her to go this way, but now her sense of direction had faded enough that she was unsure. That's how she lived and traveled, following the fate her fire filled dreams took her. Right now though... things were just dull. And she was lost. Great. Instead of sitting and thinking about how she had no idea where to go, she decided to let her feet guide her. She started walking west, where the sky was still a bit pink. Roho had never been prone to staying within the Gods' haven for long; he'd always taken a liking to earth, as was obvious when he'd earlier felt the familliar tug, bringing him down from the higher realm. It was true he'd had a rather enlightening conversation with Lady Luck only brief hours before, however, as he appeared within the earth, stepping out from the darkness, he still felt wary. Pausing, the large god stood in the middle of the night-clad savvanah, his head held high, his mane the only thing that seemed to stand out against the darkened sky, in a mild attempt to spot anyone nearby. It was then he realised that in his vague distraction, he'd materialsed near a dark pelted female.
He did not move, but remain still, his eyes staring down at her, no doubt appearing to be a demon straight out of a mortal's nightmare. The lioness paused in mid-stride, something large and dark suddenly flickering into the corner of her vision. Her muscles automaticly tensed. Nothing could move that quick... Not even a cheetah or antelope, this thing has simply appeared somehow. Gold eyes slowly turned towards the monster, eyes widening slightly. Not out of fear, but out of shock and awe. The only diety she had ever met was her mother, and she barely remembered her... She'd forgotten how it felt to be in the presence of a God...
Slowly her body loosened, though the fur on her back still stood on end. Her mouth opened a couple inches, only to hang there for a moment before she could find her words. "You're... a God." Blunt and to the point, but it was all her brain could muster. For a moment, Roho vaguely entertained the notion of taking a step back and dissolving into the darkness; he simply could not bear to be looked at... like he was a monster straight from hell. Not right now. Not again. It was why he rarely showed himself to mortals; they were always to swift to judge... to decide what he was, and what he was not. Thus so, he was rather surprised to note how the female before him did not wince or shrink back in fear. It was that surprise that kept him rooted to the spot instead of actualy following through with his idea of leaving.
If her reaction had surprised him, her few words startled him to the very core; he suddenly felt horribly vulnerable, for reasons he couldn't even begin to put his paw on, "Yes...?" his answer to her words was in the form of a question, his voice a deep, hoarse rumble, betraying the fact he was out of his comfort zone. She continued to stare at him shamelessly for a while... Her eyes scanning over his large build, and taking note of the skull mask. "I..." She began, but again her words escaped her. A soft rumble came from her throat as she cleared it, her head shaking to clear away her shock. "Forgive me, I was merely suprised to see... your kind." Her voice, now calm, was deep and alluring, just on the border of not being feminine. "I hope you'll allow me to introduce myself...?"

It was surprising, to see a mortal that did not fear him, and as soon as the shock died away, a small scowl took hold of his features under the skull, "My kind, girl? You know my kind?" he was aware that there were mortals that understood what a God was, however, it was still rare to see one that knew off the bat just what he was, rather than asume him a creature straight out of their nightmares.
Hesitation marred his movement again, and it was clear he was still pondering walking away, vanishing just as swiftly as he'd appeared, however, the fact he had yet to actually leave was a good sign. After a long moment of silence, the god narrowed his eyes, allowing himself to sit down on the ground, a clear, if not silent, signal that she may continue.
Her ears tilted back slightly, her head lowering just a few inches. A sign of respect, but not enough to make herself feel inferior to him. "Again, forgive me... I did not mean to... offend you, it seems." She watched him as he sat, her head raising as her ears fanned forward. A slight smile spread across her maw, becoming more relaxed and more intrigued at the same time. "Dear God, I only wish to speak with you... My mother was the Goddess of Fire, perhaps you know of her..?" There was a twinge of hope in her deep voice. She thought of her mother often, and would actually be happy to know that she was doing well. Not that she really thought I Goddess couldn't be well...
The girl was a god's child?
That... well, that explained a lot, really. It seemed tonight was a night for surprises; his head tilted to one side then, and if one could pass over the fact he had a skull over his face, and his eyes were red specs within a void of darkness... he'd have looked almost comicaly childish, "I do not," he told her, "Darkness does not mingle with Fire, dear girl... I can not really work well when there's fire to shatter the darkness. My daughter, Shadows, might know her though."
Another moment of silence stretched out, and then he looked away from her, his ears flattening back into his white mane, "No need to be so formal.... my name is Roho."
"Ah..." She only let a touch of disapointment come to her voice. Otherwise, her expression was the same... Curious, perhaps enchanted. Her head bobbed slightly in reply. "If you wish... Roho. My name is Abeni. It is truely a great pleasure to meet you. But, if I may be so bold... Is there a reason you appeared beside me on this night..?" She smiled then, eyes falling half lidded as she stared at him.
"I'm sorry," he wasn't amazed to note that he truly did feel that way, it was probably the girl didn't even know how her mother fared. Such was the... way things were usualy; he didn't really know how his own son fared, however, he somehow knew him to be well, deep down.
As she asked him for the reason he had appeared before him, the large male winced slightly, the movement rather comicall. If a large, skull-marked god could look sheepish, Roho did so. With all his might, "I..." after a moment, he raised a paw and coughed into it, frowning mildly as he looked away from her, "I got distracted... I don't usualy...aahh.... do good with others," another pause, "I'm not really social," can we say awkward? Waaaay out of his comfort zone.

Her eyes danced with wonder. Could it be that this was really a God..? The God of Darkness? But he was acting like a short maned teenager, not a noble and dark God... "I... see..." She looked almost suspicious now, ears twitch slowly. "I am not very social either, but it does not stop me from wishing to speak to you..." Though it was still twinged with confusion, she smiled that sly smile again, inching closer towards him.
He could see her suspicion and his ears flattened back even further, self-concious. There'd been a time he'd been cocky... when he'd been nothing like this, but he couldn't rid his mind of the thoughts of what his self-importance had caused, so long back now, "You should not judge a fruit by how healthy it's skin looks; it might be rotten inside," he stated before turning to look at the sky. At least, till he noticed her inching closer and he arched a brow at her; he remain where he sat though and did not move. He wasn't embarrased, or otherwise enchanted by her, it seemed.... it was simply that he was awkward around mortals; it wouldn't have mattered if she'd been a male, "Why would you wish such a thing?" there was obvious confusion in his words, "Few want to talk to the darkness."
Again, she was disapointed. She sat again and didn't approach him further. Eyes narrowed slightly as she pondered his words, then nodded, looking down. "I'm sorry I misjudged you then..." Her suspicions were pushed away enough that she didn't show it on her face. She decided it might be best to keep her feelings to herself... And if she couldn't enchant the God in the way he had her, then at least she could simply have a nice conversation with him. She didn't get to talk to many people... Let alone Gods.
"Oh, but I disagree. I find the dark delightful..." Her voice was pur-like, eyes closing as if imaging it. "Fire is most beautiful when it's dark... When it is bright out, all the delightful shapes and flickerings are left unnoticed... Plus... the mystery of the dark intrigues me. I am not afraid of the unknown."
"Everyone misjudges," he told her, "Even Gods do that," he could recall the way Lady Luck her had stiffen when he'd appeared, and the way she'd seemed about to flee before they'd managed to sit down for a formal conversation (a conversation he had to admit HAD been enchanting... she was a wise creature, no doubt). He stared down at her for a very long moment, his brows creasing, furrowing mildly, "You... are a very strange creature, my dear. I admit to not understanding what it is you're thinking at a given moment," then again, the 'strange' was interesting... he knew that much, "Fire always burns brighter in the dark; it's the contrast that makes it posible," and then, leanining in slightly so that the nose of his skull was a mere inch away from her, the god allowed just a bit of his old self to show in his voice, "Maybe it's not the unknown you should fear, but that what is known."
"I am sorry if I trouble you, Roho..." Her voice still a pur, eyes heavy. "People often tell me I am... odd. Then again, I am also not particuarly good with people..." A brow lifted when he leaned closer to her. She smiled wider, chin tilting up to see him better. She found herself staring into his eyes that seemed to go on forever, save for the red pupils. "Perhaps I am just too stubborn... but I have never feared anything that I've known, so far..."

"There is bravery," he spoke softly, his voice hoarse, "And there is foolishness," it was that sort of cockyness that lead creatures to their doom. He'd been witness of it many times over overthe course of his exhistence, "Which is it you claim then, foolishness or bravery? The brave may be scared, you need to know fear in order to be brave, don't you not?" he remain leaned over her, allowing his nose to touch hers, the red glow within the voids dimming as he narrowed his eyes, "The same way you need light in order to note darkness... and darkness in order to appreciate the light."
She was silent again, longer this time. Seeming to actually appreciate and take in his words... Even though she looked pensive, her eyes did not leave his, and she did not pull away when his skull brushed her nose. Abeni wondered briefly if the mask felt like real bone, or if it was warm like flesh...
But she returned quickly to what they were speaking of. Her nose wrinkled as she pondered his questions. "Well... perhaps I am foolish. But I of course do not really believe I am. I am not stupid enough to fight when I think I can not win. But I believe I am brave enough to try. Perhaps you are right though, and arrogance bears foolishness... I honestly can not remember ever being afraid..."
The mask, was indeed bone; it was hard to know if it was part of his being, or something he could have taken off just as easily as the necklace he wore though, "You are not brave them; only those that know fear can be brave. Bravery is standing up to ones' fears... not simply ignoring fear. You are young yet, though," he retreated his head away from hers; he knew fear. The fear of watching someone he'd honestly cared for, die, without him being able to do anything to stop it. He'd never been truly scared till that time; he still had nightmares from those days, "That is sad though."
It was odd, he did not explain what he thought was sad; Roho merely turned up to look at the pitch black sky. He'd always enjoyed the way the stars shone through it.
"I... suppose..." She frowned then, watching him with confusion again. This God certainly was... odd. But she couldn't help but think he was wise. Perhaps they just didn't agree on some things, but it didn't make him any less wise. Maybe she'd find something to be afraid of, some day... Abeni paused then, tilting her head. "Are you afraid of mortals, then?"
A frown creased his features, visible even with his mask, "Yes," it was said with a small amount of hesitation as he lowered his gaze down from the sky, "I fear what they might think, or what they might judge me as. I fear the power they hold over me, and my domain," he pause, arching a brow as he motioned towards himself with a paw, "I am like this, because that is how they believe me to be. I look like what they belive I should look like... mortal belief controls how we are, who we are."
Curling his tail around his form he continued, "And I fear what I can do to them... and what they make me feel, for they are brief, and they, unlike me, are not Forever."

She frowned deeper, almost pitying the god. "You do not like what you are...?" She said softly, her voice a bit softer than it was before. She did not feel sympathy often... But the idea that a God, with all their power... Could not even control their life... it was saddening to her. And what of her mother? Did she dislike her life as well?
"I.... do not dislike what I am," which, at the same time did not mean he liked it, either, however, for the first time in their meeting, the god offered her a rueful, almost ironic smile. Despite it being offered without ill intent, it came out looking like a smirk, "If mortals no longer believe in us, we cease to exhist. So long as there are mortals that believe in our domains, we are Forever. Do not pity me, child. We change... this is not my first liftime, and surely not my last. I don't think mortals will stop fearing the darkness, just like I don't think they'll stop believing in fire."
He just needed time to adapt... time to change, and time to accept whom he was. Time, however, was something he had a whole lot of.
Abeni nodded slightly, her eyes focusing on the ground for several moments. "Well..." She looked up then, smiling back at him. "I do not know how much of a difference one lion's belief will make in the world... But know that you will always be one of the Gods I pray for. I will always believe in you, and not be afraid."
Again he smiled, though this time there was obvious mirth shinning in his eyes, "Well, there are times that one lion's belief can make a diference, m'dear. So long as there is a single soul that believes, we will exhist. Everyone has power... even if they do not believe it to exhist," it was odd, how the world worked sometimes.
Turning to look up to the sky, the smile vanished, however, the expression that settled upon his features was.... perhaps peaceful. Lady Luck had been right to say that perhaps.... perhaps mortals weren't all as frail as he'd thought them to be. Perhaps there was more to things than he gave them credit to be. An ear twitched towards her and he turned to peer down at her, "And I thank you for that; do cheer up," after a moment, he paused, thinking, "What.... what is it you do for 'fun'? What do mortals do for 'fun'?"
His words seemed to settle her. And not being one to brood for long, she swiftly forgot her troubles. Again that sly smile tugged at her lips... "Well..." She considered being blunt, but thought that might be a bit rude, and besides it wouldn't be much fun either. "Well, to be honest, I spend most of my time trying to... survive. My visions guide my life, and is they tell me to go somewhere, I go... A lot of time is spent hunting and finding safe places to rest. Though... there is time to have some fun, if you have the right company."

"You're a seer, then?" well, of course she was a seer, d'uh. If she was a goddess' daughter, she was bound to have some sort of power. Even before she answered his question, he found himself nodding mildly, "Ah," then, he paused, as if confused, "Why are you alone then? Wouldn't a pridal-life suit the likes of you, or anyone, more?" he did not really require food, nor rest. He still ate and slept, but mostly out of the habit than anything; the idea of actualy needing it had always been a curious one to him, "Surely you would benefit from it, and the pride from your visions," he would have concidered... sending her towards the Mteo lands, where his daughter, the goddess of the Shadows was the patron goddess, but the lions there didn't quite take to rogues.
For a long moment, he seemed confused, as if not quite understanding what she was saying. Or perhaps not quite believing what she was hinting at, however, the confussion vanished, replaced by mirth, and he found himself leaning in towards her, smirk in place, "I am not sure if you're saying what I think you're saying... but if you are, I'm sorry to say that is sadly not in my schedual for tonight... I don't think I'd even find any one willing, m'dear. I'm not particularly loved around any of these parts."
She nodded in reply to his first question, even though he answered it himself at the same moment. Her head inclined slightly as she pondered his offer to join a pride. "I... have never really met one that met my fancy. I've run into a couple, but I moved on quickly. Many were not welcoming, to be honest." She shrugged. "I am content to follow fate, for now... perhaps some day it will lead me to where I should be."
The young lioness watched him in growing amusement. Now he was just being cute... She almost pouted in reply. "That is too bad." There was a pause, and she seemed to weigh her next move very carefully... before smiling to him again, eyes half lidded. "Love has nothing to do with fun, Roho."
"Hmmm.... I'd have thought anything to be better than the solitude and hardship," then again, he'd been alone for a really long time, whom was he to judge? As if in realisation to such a notion, the god rolled his large shoulders in a fluid motion, "We make our own fate. Lady luck told me just hours ago... that mortals would do well in knowing it is them that make their own luck."
He couldn't help himself though; he laughed. Roho could hardly remember the last time he'd laughed, to be honest; he couldn't recall when he'd last felt amused. The sound was a rumble, hardly welcoming, really, hoarse, however, there was no ill-intention to it, "Is it bad, now?" taking a breath, he shook his head, "No, no it doesn't. But... it has a lot to do with such things, at times, m'dear, I'm afraid to say."

She raised an eyebrow, frowning slightly. She couldn't quite tell if the God was laughing at her, or just generally amused. Either way, she didn't appreciate his laughter.
"I suppose you are right, in a way... But... well, I prefer fun over love. I am deeply disappointed to see that you disagree..." She was indeed disappointed, and a bit dejected. Perhaps she was just not meant to couple with a God. Her eyes flicked up to look at the sky much like he had, then smiled at him, her disappointment passing. She was a true believe of fate, and if it wasn't meant to be, it just... wasn't. "I'd better be going... I will have to sleep sometime tonight, and will have to find shelter... Roho, it was indeed good to meet you. I've enjoyed our talk. I do hope that we can see each other again. I will pray for you, as I promise." She bowed her head deeply then took a few steps back, smiling softly.

"Oh, don't look at me like that, love," when the laughter had died, the god smirked down at her, "I meant you no offense, and am not laughing AT you, or even the idea you're setting forth. In fact, I'm more amused that you would think of me in such a way, m'dear. It's been a very long time since... never mind," he waved a paw as if disregarding the issue slightly by waving it away, "Why would such a pretty thing as yourself want me? I'm sorry love, but... this heart is old and too worn out for... 'fun' that way. But you're young and free to enjoy yourself in such a way."
As she looked up and then prepared herself to leave, Roho too stood, stretching out his frame, his wings spreading as he yawned. He had duties to tend to anyhow, and as much as he'd enjoyed the idle chat, ht was best he'd get going to, "You won't be disappointed for long though, m'sure... you're not for me, but m'not the only one around tonight. There are better suited lions to hold your fire. I'm afraid I'm worn out..." leaning his head down till his forehead brushed and stayed against hers, he closed his eyes, "Fair well then, you have my blessing," and that said, he lifted his head and padded away from her, the darkness engulfing his form, making him vanish in a matter of seconds, just as easily as he'd appeared.
We will meet again, the darkness seemed to whisper around her.

She stared up at the gentle God, and she couldn't help but smile. It seemed she had acquired something far better than a meaningless night's romp. A... friend, perhaps. Or at least someone to talk to. It was odd for her to think she had a friend, since she had never had one before... And for some reason, she knew that if she prayed hard enough to the shadows, he might hear her.
The lioness did not move until he was out of sight, eaten whole by the shadows he controlled. Or... did they control him? Pensively she smiled at the wind's whisper, then turned to start walking again. The fire inside her told her to keep walking west, towards the mountains and fabled volcanoes.... And that's what she did.
