Oooow.....

The ferret colored wild dog whined softly as he licked at his paw, his maw wrinkled in pain. It was times like this that he really remembered how much pain.... hurt. Not that he really forgot that pain hurt, but he was always caught up in the act of stealing that his sense of fun overcame his... well, common sense.

So here he was again, nursing his wounds after he had tried to steal a bit of meat from a lion. He hadn't even tried to steal that much! After all, the lion had looked kind of thin... So he wouldn't be mean enough to take her food. It wasn't the things he was after, it was the thrill of stealing that made him feel alive. It wouldn't matter if it was a pebble, if he could steal it from someone he would. Though if it was something terribly valuable he'd simply return it later. Even that was excited too, not getting caught. ...Though nince times out of ten he did get caught. He was really not that sneaky.

Which wasn't fun at all.

Huni sighed and forced himself to stand and ignore the claw mark that covered the top of his front right paw. It'd heal surely, he just had to keep walking on it so it'd toughen up. Yeah, that seemed like good logic...

As always, Kale'na'Kale was ready and raring to go!

She'd just heard of a new medicine to be made using acacia tree bark, the roots of Savannah grass and riverbank clay..it was tempting to go gather these things and see what the result was like. The adolescents interest in proper herbalism was new and still very novel to her after all! When younger, it had just been a game to wear yellow flowers behind your ear to help promote happiness or to eat a bit of honey if you needed a sugary energy boost. Now she was learning the real stuff...it was so exciting!

Ever since she was a pup, the female had always had a lot of energy to devote to her passions and would keep going until she was completely bushed. Even if she technically rested when the sun had gone down, as was her custom, she still thought a lot until sleep took her. It was just her natural state, to be active mentally and physically. Today she was walking along at a brisk pace, her mind going a mile a minute and on the look out for anything interesting.

Turned out she classed the scent of an unfamiliar wild dog as interesting. When she caught Huni's on the breeze, she pushed thoughts of a new medicine to the back of her mind and started to track him curiously. She hadn't met another friendly wild dog in an age!

Huni continued to limp threw the trees, ears tilted back as he tried desperately to ignore the pain. That's right, just ignore it... Grit your teeth and count to 10.... 1, 2, 3... ...4.... Forget that, the pain was too much. And threw it all... he was just a big baby.

With a huff he laid down on the ground, licking one again at his cut foot. This cut hurt worse than the others... He didn't know why, but it did. Perhaps it was deeper than the others? He frowned and started at the bleeding mark, nose wrinkling again as he became lost in thought.

His nostrils flared as he caught a scent. Who was that? Hopefully not that ghastly lion... He looked over his shoulder with a frown, watching the bushed closely in the direction Kale was coming.

"Hello? Is anydog there?" Kale called before her in a friendly voice, hoping to gauge the welcome she'd get before she actually reached the stranger. He - she was sure from the scent it was a male - was somewhere ahead. And from his footprints in the loam ground, unless she was mistaken, she had gathered he was hurt. It was very faint but she'd smelt blood and it didn't seem to be from any meat she knew. Maybe he'd cut his paw or something.

Maybe he could be a patient!

But first, she waited with some underbrush between them. If he replied cheerfully, she'd definitely approach. If with anger she'd leave. And if not at all, well...she'd have to risk it. It had been a long while since she'd met someone and while she loved her family and had a couple of good friends, variety was the spice of life. Meeting someone new, even if they did nothing but converse about the weather and the movement of the herds for a few minutes, would be good for her.

His ears perked higher, eyes widening slightly. Oh yes, the scene was unmistakable. A wild dog... and by the smell and voice, a girl. A girl. Why couldn't it have just been the lion!?

"U-uh..." He glanced around with a frown, embarrassed by his injuries. This was no way for a tall, handsome, strong, stealthy male to act. Whimpering in the mud like a pup!

Mud... mud! He quickly shuffled forward on his stomach and rubbed his wounded paw into a puddle of shallow mud, coating it thoroughly. He'd rather look dirty than injured... Then he turned back in Kale's direction and smiled nerviously. "H-heeey..."

His smile was one of the first things she noticed as she emerged from the plants, and she grinned in return. He'd called back nicely if hesitantly, so Kale had come to see this stranger. He was quite handsome, older than her and seemingly shy. Or maybe nervous because of something else? He seemed sort of dirty and she'd been sure she'd smelt blood...maybe there'd been a fight?

"Hi. I'm Kale'na'Kale, but you can call me Kale if you'd like. I caught your scent and thought I'd come say hello." She sat down a few feet from him, on the edge of the muddy patch.

"Ha... ha ha..." He chuckled nervously, head tilted down as he eyed her with anxious dark eyes. His paw was carefully held a bit behind his other, trying to hide the mud and the deer cut. Which was increasingly hard, since the mud was starting to make the wound sting.

His expression became more and more tense as his smile became more and more forced. After mere moments he was speaking threw his teeth, his smile so stiff that he could not even move his jaw.

"I-I'm... Huni...."

Kale raised an eyebrow as it became more and more evident he was tensing up as mere seconds went by. Now, what had she done to cause that? Maybe he didn't like meeting random strangers or maybe she'd guessed right about that fight. Kale felt far too nosy but she'd really wanted to meet someone new, and now was too curious to just drop it, say goodbye and leave it alone.

"Nice to meet you....is everything okay though ? I thought I smelt blood you see, and being a healer and all, I couldn't help but wonder..."She shrugged. No big deal if she was wrong but she really was curious now!

"I... uh... uh...." He gnawed on his tongue anxiously, eyes flickering from side to side. "Well..." Cleared his throat, shifting anxiously. She was a healer? She could help, but would he let her? That was his trouble, letting females get close to him, and he always got so nervous and made a fool out of himself...

Finally he gulped and raised his injured, mud covered paw. "U-um... Yeah.. you were right... I got a bit hurt..."

"You tried to use mud as a poultice? Good idea, but the mud around here must sting, its half loam with all these trees." Kale praised, as she moved forward to look and even sniff at his paw. Poor fellow. Looked like it was a nasty gash under that mud! She looked up from her task and offered him a smile.

"Clean that off so we can see whats what and I'll go fetch a few things?" Her tail wagged as she made the suggestion. A patient! An actual patient. She didn't really wait to see if he replied but dashed off, her mind buzzing with ideas of what to fetch. Luckily her bundle wasn't far from here, in last nights temporary den.

"I...." He gapped, watching her go. He wanted to insist that he was ok... that he was a 'big strong male'... But... At least she had seemed happy? He sighed and hunched over a bit, frowning down at his muddied paw. Where would he clean it out at?

...Duh, water. He coughed to himself and slightly cursed himself for being an idiot, especially around a pretty female... He limped into the trees for a while until he came to a tiny stream, which he began to dunk his paw into.

Kale had met a mandrill or two in her time and one of the monkies had been happy to trade a few herbs and a meal for one of their clever inventions. Gourds, some beaten skin, dried twisted vines...Kale liked her bag-belt and had pondered just how it had been made more than once, having never had opposable thumbs herself of course! It was very useful and as once again she slipped it around her strong neck, she was glad of it.

She ran back in search of her patient, mentally running through what her belt held in her head.

Huni lingered by the stream as he waited, moving to shift down to his stomach after a while. His foot hurt too much to stand for long. He sighed and licked at the wound, ears tilted back.

When she returned he looked up at her and smiled shyly, ears still pressed back against his head. "Uh... hey... welcome back..."

"Hey.... don't worry, won't take a minute to fix your leg up, I think." Her own ears flicked back, sheepishly now. She was confident she could help this Huni, but she had sort of chased him down to do so. Kale was excited to have a patient but was aware she could be a pain in the tail sometimes. Insistant and high energy.

She was specialised in making and collecting, the medicines and their ingredients to be honest. But of course she knew how to apply and use them as well.

The wild dog nodded a bit, smiling just as sheepishly. He really didn't mind her helping him... In fact he was quite happy to let her do so. It was just that he was so awkward and nervous around females that he had a hard time expressing his gratitude.

"A-alright... Cool..." He extended his injured paw to her, so that she could... do whatever it was that she needed to do. If she said she could help, then he trusted her. She certainly couldn't make it any worse, at least.
