Although the sun was high in the sky at the midday hours, it's usually bright light was obscured by the passing of the clouds, on and off. In fact, it wasn't a very clear day at all, but it wasn't bitterly cold, either. It was a nice temperature to be outside traipsing about in, mainly because there wasn't the bite of the wind to pull cold air into the atmosphere, and the clouds were pretty dry.

In fact, most things in the area were dry; the grass seemed to be a little harsh on bare feet, dried twigs and leaves littered the floor and crunched underfoot... it only told of the end of summer, as the days grew shorter and made way for longer nights.

It was this exact reason why Yubikiri was having trouble sleeping lately, as the shadowcat was used to being up and about by the time darkness fell. This was really screwing up with his day-to-day schedule, and although it happened every year, he had yet to get used to the transition. Every year, and it's always the same, he mulled over in his head, scowling before letting out with a large yawn.

However, because of the fact that he just recently woke up -- and therefore was less alert -- accompanied with the recent yawn, Yu found himself stumbling over a precariously-placed stone in the middle of his immediate walkway. As his toe hit the solid object, conveniently lodged into the ground, he hopped uncomfortably over to his other foot and quickly pulled the sore foot up into his hands as he started hopping. "Holy crab on a--!" he coughed in reflexive action as he tried to catch his balance, wobbling on a single ankle. His shoulder hit a nearby tree, and although it had jarred him a little, he was grateful that it was there.

"Gah, that rock must have roots or something because it... meh, owww," he grumbled, pouting as he rubbed his foot to ease the pain. As he did so, he took a look at the area he had happened into, noticing that he was... directly in front of a house. He blinked, his foot-rubbing pausing as he forgot about the pain. He quirked his ears curiously; he had spent so much time in this forest, and although it was quite vast, how had he not ever stumbled across this neat little cottage before?

He glanced behind himself, studying the surroundings. His nose twitched slightly as he came to a conclusion... "Nope, never been here before." Brilliant deduction!

He wandered on closer, setting a hand along the wooden walls as he peered over the side, seeing if there was anyone around -- at least on this side. "Nice craftsmanship," he commented as he looked up into the underside of the thatched roofing. Whoever lived here really took good care of the place. But it was so small... did they live alone? "I wonder who does live here," the shadowcat pondered, tapping an index finger on his bottom lip in thought. Perhaps... perhaps he'd just need to find out. He grinned; it wasn't as if he had anything better to do right now!

A soft boom could be heard around the small, and otherwise quiet, cottage. The boom was more like a far off mushroom bomb, but in fact was underground. A little ways behind the cottage there lay a steel door. Though this door was different; it was laying down in the grass. A few moments after the 'boom' was heard, grey smoke rose from the steel door as it lay in the grass.

Not long after the smoke rose from the door, it opened with an anthro unicorn coughing and waving the smoke away. "Dang it!" He spat and slammed the door shut after his petpet, Ishito flew out of the door. The smoke seemed to try and engulf the unicorn with its misty fingers, but his hand smacked them away. He covered his mouth with the collar of his shirt and coughed repeatedly. Ishito gasped and let out soft coughs as well and floated away from the smoke.

As Ran gasped for fresh air, he walked over to a nearby tree to the side of the house. His hand pressed against it as he held himself up. The smoke and explosion from his underground lab made the unicorn dizzy. Slowly, he took his hand away from his mouth, allowing the collar of his shirt to drop in its rightful place around his neck.

(( Poor Ishito... D; <333 ))

Both feet firmly on the ground, Yubikiri had all but forgotten about his stubbed toe as he walked slowly around, admiring the house. Subconsciously, he was actually trying to make the resident feel uncomfortable with this strange, dark-furred cat with a pointed hat wandering around their property. Maybe then he'd get some information out of them that he was curious to ask about. He never really stopped to think that, just maybe, there was nobody home. Not that it mattered either way, as he probably would have found himself wandering around until the homeowner did return, if they were indeed gone.

However, he had not long to ponder before his attention was drawn to something else, something even more interesting. As the ground began shaking, Yubikiri turned to glance around the area, befuddled. That's strange... when was the last time we had an earthquake? I can usually feel these things coming on... Intuitive cat's senses were great to have, but only if they actually worked the way they were suppose to.

Come to think of it, it didn't feel like any earthquake Yubikiri had ever felt before. It seemed to roll and crackle, not like the regular side-to-side toss he was "used" to feeling. The sounds he was hearing, as if far away and yet close at the same time, were not normal in the slightest, either. Something was definitely not right here, and it snapped Yubikiri into a defensive frame of mind as he continued to search.

Luckily, it wasn't long before the mystery was solved, as a billowing cloud of smoke sprouted from the depths of a hidden door in the back. It startled the shadow-cat as it suddenly appeared, his eyes growing wide before shrinking to determined slits as he made his way to the back of the cottage.

Ran was someone he hadn't expected to see in such an area, let alone in a cottage, but it got the cat to relax in a matter of seconds. "Master!" he exclaimed as he made his way over quickly, seeming to be unaware of the fact that not only was Ran agitated by the explosion, but visibly dizzy as well. There were only certain things that Yu would take note of, and this, apparently, was something he didn't want to.

"Didn't expect to run into you in a place like this. What's going on?" he asked, ears perked as a broad smile made its way to his features. No, he wasn't aware that this was a rather awkward thing to do.

(( He'll be okay. xD; <3 ))

As the smoke somewhat dissipated around the unicorn and the floating yellow bunny, they filled their lungs with fresh air. Ran took a few deep breaths, trying to keep from falling over with dizziness; though the tree sure did help as well. He opened his eyes slowly, as he started feeling the scenery settle to it's rightful places. He then looked to his floating bunny friend and forced out a snicker. "Heh... I get those weren't the right kind of plants, Ishito... Oh well.."

Ishito made a little squeak in agreement. Though his bunny friend couldn't talk, Ran usually knew what he meant, he was Ran's 'assistant' after all.

Ran let out another sigh, closing his eyes and running his hand through his hair in frustration. "Damn..." He spat, then opened his eyes. As he did so, his eyes fell on someone he least expected to. It was Yubikiri... that cat anthro that terrorized Kaoru that one time.. and somehow became my apprentice... His eyebrow rose slightly as he came over to the two. "Um... Yubikiri... Isn't that what I should say....?" He mumbled quietly to himself.

Ishito, on the other hand, just looked at Ran, then at the cat completely and utterly confused. He made a little squeak to confirm his confusion to Ran.

"Oh..." Ran turned to his floating friend, "This is Yubikiri... my apprentice.." Ishito just stared at his master, then shook his head remaining quiet as the cat approached them. Ran then turned to Yubikiri, "I just... blew up my lab..." He shrugged, speaking in all honesty. He then tilted his head slightly to Yubikiri. "...What are you doing here anyways?"

Yu's eyes darted over the floating form of a... well, it seemed to be a candy corn-colored head of a bunny. He blinked, making sure he wasn't becoming delirious from the fumes that were still billowing out from the steel door in the ground a few yards away. He scanned his memory quickly, trying to pick out any image fragments in his mind that may point to who this little guy was, but alas, came up empty. He raised a hand slowly up to the hovering Ishito, catching it when it's eyes weren't on the cat, and snatched one of the petpet's long ears. He giggled, tugging at it lightly as to not harm the little thing, amused once again at such a minor issue. This strange thing must not have come out with Ran on the day the two of them met...

Ran! Swiftly, he retracted his hand, coming back into reality with all eyes on the unicorn in front of him. He let his mind wander again! It happened too much, even for his own liking. After all, what kind of an impression was this giving to one he so faithfully called "master"? Of course, he was delving too deep into these thoughts, ears visibly lowering slightly on either side of his head even as Ran focused more on recovering from his dizzying ailment than to Yubikiri's antics.

...What he should say..? He thought the question over, wondering why it sounded so odd for the cat to be asking it instead. He shrugged it off after little contemplation, "Perhaps. We always seem to run into each other in the middle of a forest." He grinned, not realizing he just stated a no-brainer. Yubikiri tended to stay in the forest, and was otherwise out of the way at Moogz's Bates Motel. Maybe they could have run into each other along the way home, but both were such recluses that the thought seemed to just slip the shadow-cat's mind. He scratched absently at his arm as he took another peek at Ishito, wondering if he had ticked the little guy off. "I was just wandering around. This forest is so large, it seems I haven't quite found everything it has to offer yet. I hadn't realized someone else lives around here..." he replied, tilting his head back up to study the workmanship on the roofing once more, eyes catching sight of the plume of smoke again. "A lab, huh? What do you do down there?" His eyes flashed a sudden curiosity. "Hey, do you have mutated, acid-spitting toads or something you work on down there? That'd be so cool!" He leaned over, as if he could get a better look down the staircase if he did.
