 The sun was shining quite brightly, though one mare wouldn't think so as her milky what eyes stared blankly forward. She stood under a tree for the moment before stepping out into the sun, letting it shine off her dark blue coat and frosted black and face. Turning her head upwards toward the warmth of the sun, her eyes closed, her curly mane falling a bit against her shoulders. It's green sparkled gently like it was jewels instead of actual hair. Her tail was the same, shaking her head, Alaska as the mare was deemed started walking again.
"Such a warm day." Alaska smiled to herself as she walked, "Maybe more will like this weather better then the snow."

Raphael was in a good mood. After his talk with Leon, he was more convinced than ever that his sister had made a good choice. Not that he was still quite over the fact that his baby sister was lifemated, of course; he merely knew she'd picked the right guy. And hopfully his parents had accepted that fact as well.
Not that he knew, of course; he hadn't made it back to the home clearing since the rather disasterous 'revealing' episode. It wasn't that he doubted things would work out, he just wanted to make sure that they had PLENTY of time to do so before he checked.
Which was why he was out, enjoying the warm weather and sunshine of late summer.

The sun was warm to her frosted looking back, just how it shown on her coat, one would think she had frostbite or something of that manner. Walking through the large clearing that she would come to find out was a valley, Alaska seemed quite happy with going in a straight line. Her glittering tail twitched behind her, the curls bouncing ever so slightly.
Stopping at the sounds of water, she dipped her head down and nosed at the ground before she came to the stream. Strange she loked nosing around for something that was there just before her, but it was what happened when one lacked something important. Lifting her head again after getting a well needed drink, she heard the steps of something. Raising her muzzle a little, she sniffed at the air trying to figure out what it was. It certainly sounded like one of her own kind, but was it really?

Raphael had always loved the water, so it was no surprise that the course of his walk had shadowed the course of the river. He hadn't been aware of that fact, exactly; it had been more subconscious than anything else. Still, it was reassuring, in a way, to know that he had the water to fall back on if he got thirsty...or overheated...or bored.
And also on the plus side (for those that considered such things), the water was a good place to meet people. Who didn't need water, after all?
Up until now, though, he hadn't seen anyone else out and about. In fact, the blue mare standing at the bend in the river was the first living creature (besides himself) that he'd seen all day!
That didn't stop him from calling out a pleasant greeting of "Good day!"

Ears perching on the top of her head, Alaska backed away from the water, dragging her head upwards. Head turning a little in the general direction of the call, her head tilted a little. Milky eyes stared blankly, before she cleared her mouth of the water she had in it and opened to speak.
"Hello?" She questioned to the distant voice, not really moving from her spot, always thinking that it was best for them to come to her instead of the other way around. "Tis a good day indeed, if one doesn't mind the heat from the sun."
Turning her rump some, her curlly. glittery, tail flicked over her star gilded flank before falling back behind her. Head raised high, and ears perched forward, she focused on the voice. It certainly sounded masculine and a kind one. She couldn't tell much from the distance, but who knew maybe another friend could be made. She had two, another stallion and a very shy mare whom semed really open to her.

Though he hadn't run into anyone else for days, Raphael's manners were as proper as ever. Having announced his presence with the polite greeting, he was now able to move on to more detailed pleasantries. After all, the mare had been polite enough in HER response! And he did like a bit of pleasant conversation once in a while, as opposed to awkward conversation about family histories, and...
Yeah, not going to dwell on that.
Smiling pleasantly at the mare, Raphael fired back as he walked up, "Fortunately for those of us with dark coats, the sun keeps one pleasantly warm; besides, if it gets to be too hot, there's always the river, right?" He gestured at the river as he spoke, unaware that the eyes turned towards him were sightless and blank. Though even if he did know, it was doubtful he would have done anything differently, or even knew how!

"But of course it does, sometimes one can get too warm and must seek the shelter of a tree or coolness of a river." She smiled at the stallion who had come over to her. "But when the sun refuses to shine for months at a time, one can get quite used to the cold and the sun becomes a small problem."
Shaking her head she closed her milky eyes, she laighed on the inside while her head shook. Silly she was being, though serious as well, she was used to the cold, these warmer climates had almost done her in when she moved south to explore new lands even if only by sound, touch and smell. So far she was lilking this new place and didn't really want to go back to the cold north.
"My deem is Alaska, might I as of yours good sir?" Alaska asked tilting her head to one side, milky orbs blinking a couple of times.

"Lucky for us that it's still summer then, wouldn't you say? This way, we have a couple more months to transition to the cold from the heat and hopefully won't have to worry too much about temperature changes. And I'm Raphael, Alaska; nice to meet you!"
Bobbing his head slightly in greeting, Raphael gave the mare a wide smile, only to c**k his head to the side slightly at the sight of her glazed, blank eyes.
Was she able to see him? He'd seen creatures with pale eyes before, but this mare's eyes were so pale that they didn't seem to be made up of anything besides white. He was staring before he realized it, but quickly caught himself, flushing crimson at indulging in such a rude behavior as staring.

"But of course, But it seems that I had traveled here too late to transition myself for the summer seasons. Up north, it remains cold all year long... Well just about." She gave a light shrug. "I would like it to be cooler then what it is now, just enough to take off that 'edge'."
Alaska didn't see his staring at her, not did she even know that she was getting stared at because of her eyes. Tilting her head at the sudden silence she wondered if it was something she ahd said? Or did? A brow raising a little she had to silently wonder, though she felt the questions building in the back of her skull like a flood building behind a dam.
"Something the matter?" she asked openly, "Did I say something wrong?" Her ears fell back gently before one stood back up to listen for his reply.

Awkward moment, ayup. Running a wing sheepishly through his mane, Raphael looked at the river for a moment longer as he collected himself for an explanation of a WILDLY innapropriate bit of behavior. Yeah, that was a good way to start a meeting, staring.
"No, nothing is the matter, I was just noticing your eyes. I've never seen any that are quite that pale before and, though it somewhat embarrasses me to admit it, I seem to have been caught staring. My apologies for that, it won't happen again."

This made her blink, he was 'staring' at her eyes? Surely there were others around with pale eyes like her own, well mayebe not. Not everyone lost their sight in the same manner that she did. The thought of the blizzard made her shiver a little even in the heat of the day. Shaking it to the back of her mind for later thoughts and contemplation, she focused her ears on Raphael.
"Oh? I guess everyone around here has pretty eyes then? Unlike the milky ones I have." She didn't seem disheartened about her lack of color and pupils for that matter, "But don't worry about it, Everyone seems to stare at them when they first meet me."
She remembered the mare she had met not too long before, she had said she stared at her eyes. And everyone back home had always started at them, so she merely shrugged it off as a natural thing now. She wan't worried about others staring at her eyes. But surely they weren't the only thing to stare at... Right? Her glittery colored tail twitched over her flank as she shifted her footing. he gold necklace about her neck glittering when teh sun touched it.
"So do you live around here?" she wondered, thinking that a subject change would ease the tension in the air a bit. "I'm new and don't... Really know my way around these lands." This came to her own embrrassment, a soft pink came to her face, but only shown in her frosted blaze.

On the positive side of things, the mare didn't seem to mind being stared at; however, Raphael minded a great deal. Such things were not mannerly, and he could say he approved of such things. Even if he'd known that she was used to it, he wouldn't have been able to justify that behavior in himself, which was why he was so quick to move past the awkward topic and embrace the other one.
"Well, I don't exactly live in the immeadiate vicinity, but I did grow up in this general region. Doing a bit of wandering, you might say. So you're new to these lands, though? What made you decide to relocate, if you don't mind my asking?" Nice, safe, topic that would enable both of them to get their composure and dignity back, if HER blush was anything to go by. Oh, how his father would react if he could see his oldest behaving like such a cad!

Tilting her head off to one side, her milky white blinked a couple times, before she nodded. She had grown up far from the place, where it was rather cold and windy when it chose to be. The blush slowly left her blaze, letting it fade back into its snow colored glory. Her tail twitching gently behind her flank letting the soft sparkles glitter in the light..
"I come from a place where it was rather cold and windy, when it wanted to be. There is always snow and the sun rarely shines like it does here." she began turning her head skyward, "I guess I moved down here to be where it was warmer and to find better living. And maybe more, but for now I have no need for that something more." She nodded cutting off her own train of thought. She needn't speak of such foolishness things with someone she had only met.
Truth was she wasn't really sure why she had really left her home to the north, maybe it was because of the cold. The wind, the lack of sunlight? All things seemed trivial at best, but she didn't care in the least, she was here now and that was all that mattered.. Right?

Listening to the mare's description of the place, Raphael honestly couldn't blame her for leaving. A place where it was always cold, where there was always snow and rarely sun? The only part of her explanation that DIDN'T make sense was why she hadn't abandoned that wilderness a looooooooong time ago.
But he was a gentleman, and gentlemen didn't interogate ladies, especially not ladies that were new acquaintances. Everyone had their own reasons for why they did anything, and it was their choice whether or not they wanted to share those reasons.
So he kept the conversation light and on the impersonal topic of weather, the number one cop-out of actual conversation. "Well, I can't speak for your experiences or the experiences of Soquilis here in general, but I have to say that my own impressions of this region have been nothing but positive. The winters are cold, but they are firmly relegated to one quarter of the year; the variety of seasons allows time to adapt to the cold or heat, depending on what season is incoming and which is outgoing; there are also a lot of comfortable spaces to last out the winter, if that's more your thing."

Tilting her head some to the silence that had surrounded them for a moment while it seemed that both were in thought, before the stallion spoke up again about the weather of the new lands that she had come to be in. Though she still felt she had come down at the wrong time.
"Perhaps, though I still find that maybe I had come across the border at the wrong time. The heat was killer to me, and still is a bit. It will take some time getting used to that's for sure." She nodded lightly. "At times I wish I it were winter so things weren't so warm out."
Falling silent again she swept a hoof forward to where she could tough the water, she lowered her head to get another drink. Her body shivered accepting the coolness of it. Cooling her insides and cooling her body over all. Lifting her head she shook a little before composing herself, she hated the fact that the heat was making her feel... Not herself. Perhaps it would have been better to leave and come back when it was winter here and get used to the heat that way... She didn't know.
