Fluttering her wings in dismay, Lazuli attempted to wrench her ankle from out of the gopher hole she'd accidentally plunged it into. It was only a matter of time before something scary came along and saw her there, trapped as she was. She had had quite enough scares, what with her occasional run-ins with a creature too foul to be named. Her wings had saved her time and time again, but now... now, they couldn't. She was well and truly caught, and the ironic thing was that it was through no fault but her own. Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. She tugged harder, and only managed to become more entangled. She couldn't smell the Skinwalker. There was no Skinwalker. There wasn't, was there?

After the drama and chaos that had accompanied his sister's lifemating, Raphael had wanted very much to get away from it all. He didn't doubt that things would work out and that things would get back to normal eventually, but in the meantime he'd had enough excitement to last him a loooooong time.

That was why he was off out here, far away from his family's home and pretty much everything he was familiar with. It was different, it was a change, it was wildly peaceful.

Sort of.

Raphael was flying along rather aimlessly when he first saw the mare. At first, he was tempted to just keep on moving; after all, she was probably looking for solitude herself and the last thing he wanted to do was intrude. Upon a second glance, though, something registered as not right. She was fluttering about but not going anywhere and, upon closer inspection, seemed to be distressed.

Or make that stuck.

As he swooped down towards the mare, Raphael could see that her leg was caught in something. He'd seen Gemma in the exact same situation enough times to identify the signs of 'I"m caught and I can't free myself,' so he was more than willing to offer his assistance. Landing a short distance away from the mare, he called out, "Excuse me, but could you use a hand, maybe?"

That wasn't a Skinwalker. In fact, there were pretty much no similarities between the stallion and a Skinwalker that she could see. She fluttered her wings some more, certain that if she just tried one more time, she'd manage to break free. No such luck. "... Yes, please. I can't get out." She was quite dismayed by her ill luck, not at all pleased that to be freed she must put herself at the mercy of a stallion. There was nothing wrong with them, really, but she didn't know this one, so she didn't know if it was wise to trust him. He seemed good natured enough, but who could say how long that would hold?

Having avoided the unforgivable error of sneaking up on the mare, Raphael was more than willing to help her out. He could see that she was rather firmly lodged, one hoof buried deeply in a gopher mound. Darn gophers; no matter what Gemma said about them, he could never feel anything more than annoyance at the burrowing menace. They were a danger to the limbs of Soquili everywhere; he'd had to heal a broken leg on more than one occassion, starting with his own when he'd been a youngster.

But she didn't seem to be in pain, which was good. This time, it looked like the rodents hadn't won.

Stepping up beside her, he gave her a friendly smile meant to help calm her nerves, if said nerves were at all agitated. "Well, just hold on a second, and I'll see what I can do. Lucky for you, I have experience with this sort of thing; just try to keep your balance, and let me know right away if you're hurt."

Leaning over, Raphael very carefully poked his horn down into the gopher hole, flush against Lazuli's leg. Carefully (so as not to lose his own balance or skewer the mare), he began to wiggle it back and forth, widening the hole around her foot so that she could pull it out herself. "Try that."
