-- The sun had set only moments ago, its light now merely a warm glow behind the horizon. Evening stars already shone bright, and the full moon was slowly climbing above the forest. The sounds and sights of the day were gone, gradually being replaced by those who walk in the dark.

Most inhabitants of the Spiraglades were either already asleep, or looking for shelter for the night. Only a handful stayed active during the night, and even fewer were just waking up..

A small family of nocturnal Spicae were starting to stir in their little den, guarded by a majestic oak. --

A tiny head popped out of the cave, observing the surrounding world with oddly mismatched eyes. The little female pup was in awe as everything seemed so big to her.. She'd wanted to go out so many times before, but her parents had always stopped her, telling her that she and her siblings were still a little too young to go out alone.

But tonight, they'd promised the three would get to go out freely for the first time.. She was ecstatic.

"Yume, calm down", said a voice from behind her. The pups' mother, Lunatéa, looked at the little female who quickly returned inside.
"We're going soon", she promised the impatient pup.

"But mummy, I wanna go already!" Yume cried out in frustration. "Daddy, can't we leave now?" she pleaded her father, looking at him with eyes so much like his in colour.

Sterlling looked down at his daughter who had inheritted most of his features and yawned -having just woken up-. "You have to wait, Yume..." he said quietly. "Being patient may be difficult but it might prove useful later on." he smilled a little. All three pups where delightful in their own way, and all three were his children -and he was glad about that-

Bright eyes glowed in the dark as the small Spica popped his head from behind his father's leg and stared directly at Yume's mismatched eyes. Making some not very steady steps towards her he flopped on the ground and smilled up at her, shaking his white-tipped tail. "Does big sister Yume not like home?" he asked curiously, looking up at her while he got up on his feet again. Being the youngest of three pups, Shion appeared to be the most laid-back of the three, not quite as energetic like the other two, but he'd always be observant and keen.

"Mom, does Yume not like home?" he asked turning to Lunatéa, without waiting for his sister's reply.

Shasta was waiting quietly, an unusual moment for her. Her identical stormy grey eyes watched as Yume pestered Sterlling about going out. A small tremble of excitment coursed though her body, ending in a wide grin on the midnight colored Spica pup's face. Moving from her sentry just inside the mouth of the den, she reared up and put her paws against her father. "Please, Daddy?" She grinned again.

Rocking back, she returned to her four paws and turned towards Shion. She laughed lightly, and bumped into him with her nose. "No, silly! She just wants to go outside and explore! Don't you?" Her tone was slightly incredulous. She would never understand her brother's apparent lack of enthusiasim. He seemed so quiet, unlike her and Yume's rowdy personas. She dropped the thought instantly, returning to the problem at hand. Behind her, outside the den, a whole new world beckoned! Another shock of excitment tore through her, her grin, somehow, deepening even more.

Lunatéa laughed softly listening to her pups argue. "Patience is a virtue, children", she said as she gently nudged Yume and smiled at Shasta and Shion. She was proud of her pups, even though it was sometimes hard to keep them from running around.

Yume whimpered impatiently. "Shion, I really don't understand how you seem so indifferent about this thing! It's like you don't want to go out at all!" She looked into her brother's glowing eyes and snorted. "Well, me and Sasta could go alone if you'd rather stay here! Right, sis?" the little female declared. To her, it seemed like they had waited forever for this chance. She was sure Shasta felt the same way. Had their parents not given them permission to go out tonight, the girls would probably have run off without. They were so curious, so intrigued by everything they'd seen from the mouth of the cave.

Shion pawed the ground softly, as if testing the strength of his legs and sighed. It wasn't as if he didn't want to go out. He did want to. He didn;t reply to Shasta's question though. There was a whole wide world out there. A whole lot of smells and images to record and store acordingly in his head, things, important things to take care of such as knowledge. He didn't really think he could aquire knowledge by charging head-on. You needed to stay away and observe from a distance, or so he had figured out when he had tried to analyze his other family members in this way. And while it sounded rather odd... insensitive almost, and cold, that was what Shion did all the time, calculating and thinking... maybe he wasn't really normal after all...

Shaking his tail a little, allowing it to softly sway left and right he looked up at his mother and father then over to Yume and Shasta and without saying anything he yawned and walked to the cave's exit, peeking his head outside to the clean night air. It smelled of clean things and flowers, of soil and water and those other familliar scents he had learned to smell from the safety of home and his parents. Indeed, he was faced with a challenge, like both his sisters, to explore and discover and learn. He was curious, maybe just curious, or maybe too curious for his own good.

"I am comming, Yume." he noted cocking his head to one side. "I just don't see why I should cause a ruckus just because I'm happy about something that would come anyway sooner or later."

Sterlling laughed softly at Shion's logic and looked over at Luna. "They grew up..." he cynically noted with a small shrug. It hadn't been all that long ever since he was a loner and child either. Back then the possibility of having a family was impossible to him and still, now he had children. Children!. Who'd have thought?
"Don't start a fight, you three..." he trailled off, leaning down and placing his head between his feet so that he would be closer to the pups' eye-level. "Yume, don't be mean to your brother. Shion, don't pick on your sister either." he sighed turning to Shasta "And you Shasta... you just keep the balance, okay?" he looked at all three with his mismatched eyes again before getting back on his feet.

"It is about time to leave." he said.

Shasta pouted slightly, glancing up at Luna. "Patience, Mama? Why?" Her paws itched and she squirmed as a slight frown knit her brow. Patience. Patience. Patience. All her life she had been told patience. Now, on possibly the most exciting night in her life, her parents still expected it from her. Maybe Shion had enough to share. The thought brought a smile grin to her face. She whipped around when Yume spoke, and play pounced her equally excited sister. But couldn't resist rolling her gray eyes at her brother's words. "That doesn't make any sense and you know it!." She swiped a grey flecked paw in Shion's general direction.

She listened carefully when Sterlling spoke up, giving directions to each of her siblings. Keep the balance? A slow growing smirk gradually appeared on Shasta's maw. She could do that. Turning away from her father, she stuck her nose up in the air a bit and paced with a high stepping motion in front of her siblings. Barking out commands, she kept her rhythm. "Yume! Stand up straight! Feet together! Shion! You will address me as Ma'am, Miss Shasta. Or sir." She began to giggle uncontrolably rolling onto her back, pawing the air. Grinning at Sterlling as she got back to her feet. "Almost time to go!" She shrieked, bouncing side to side in front of her parents. Almost time... That was the best thing she had heard all evening!

Lunatéa let out a small sigh. Had she been like this when she was their age? For some reason, she couldn't remember. Not that it mattered much, anyway.. she had her paws full with the three already. This was her life now. The past didn't matter anymore.. Her loneliness was far behind.

She walked to the entrance of the cave and sniffed the air. Then, she turned to look at her family and smiled. "I think it's time", she said.

With those words, Yume darted out from between her mother's legs, unable to keep her excitement in anymore. She did a clumsy somersault, ending up on her nose, but she didn't care about grace. She was out, FREE! for the first time in her short life. She was giggling almost hysterically, finally she could let out some of the infinite energy welling up inside her.
"Where should we go first?" she asked her brother and sister. The world was huge, and for the pup it seemed to be waiting for them alone. Endless adventures awaited, and she wanted to see as much as possible before sunrise.

Shion sighed at Shasta's misinterpretion of their father's words and shook his head making his ears sway with the movement. He watched as his mother gave them the okay to leave and making small careful steps he walked outside. Once he had gotten the hang of it he stretched, oddly relaxed, and looked around him taking in the environment as it was into a million of pictures and smaller pictures inside of them and processing it slowly. He had a lot to learn. As in... what to eat and what not to, where to go and where not to, and all of those other things he wanted to find out.
At Yume's question, that was when Yume had finally calmed down a little -enough to be able to speak more or less- he sighed.

"Why don't we just explore one place at a time...? we're not going to see much if we just run around." he suggested in a calm monotone while walking over to his sister. "This way we'll get to see new stuff and play and there's always a tommorow we can come back." he yawned a little and shook his tail happily, because it was not as if he was not happy to be finally free, it was just that he could never find the never depleting energy his sisters had, and no he wouldn't have really cared if it was today or tommorow, it was all the same... but now that it was time for it he could enjoy it like the other two did.

Shasta followed closely behind Yume as she ran out, a little disgruntled that she had not bene the first to escape the den she had shared with them all her life. And she giggled quietly to herself at her sister's sudden hysteric fit of laughter. But her grey eyes were bright as she looked around the forest, her breath uneasy with the wonder that filled her. Where to go... "Anywhere..." She murmured breathily. She wanted to see everything at once, the whole world in the span of one night. Rolling her eyes, she glanced back at her cautious brother as he moved slowly, step by step, from the den. "Well, we won't get anywhere if you don't hurry up!" She snapped irritably, regreting the slight harshness to her words even as she spoke.

"Let's go there!" Shasta announced suddenly, choosing a direction at random. She sprint-pranced off into the tree line, hoping her siblings would follow. She had already missed out on being the first one outside, so she at least needed to be the one to lead her siblings off into the wilderness for the first time. She wanted to lead. Be the one everyone looked to. The head of the little gang of trouble makers. Or at leas the brains in the sisterly duo. She doubted Shion would ever willingly play a prank, if he could help it. Even now she was picturing what they would call her when she grew up. Shasta the Fearless. Shasta the Adventurer, even! A prideful smirk slipped onto her face as she continued off between the trees, away from her parents. There was a world to discover, and they would never get anything done if they just stood around and argued all night!

Yume dashed after Shasta, not willing to lose any kind of competition with her siblings. She had a strong personality, and being the oldest she thought she should be the one doing everything first. "You better hurry or you'll be left behind!" she shouted to Shion who'd only just got out of the den. Oh, the feeling of freedom was intoxicating. She simply couldn't get enough of it. The sounds of the night, the strange scents all around her.. She wanted to see it all, and just one night couldn't possibly be enough. The little female was so full of energy and curiosity it was almost insatiable.

She caught up with Shasta quite soon, trying her best to get in front of her sister. She had no idea how far behind Shion was by then.. He'd catch up at some point, probably. Or maybe he decided to stay home after all.. At that moment, she didn't really care much but about herself. She and Shasta were close to a clearing with a river dividing it. Yume could hear the sound of the water as it run downstream. The little pup run into the tall grass, some of the individual blades scratching her a bit, but she really didn't care about a little pain. She was a great adventurer, letting herself be slowed down by something as petty as a few scratches would have made her weak, which she wasn't. Not in her mind, at least.

Shion scowled. His sisters were rushing him when he wanted to stand by and observe his surroundings. He wasn't going to get left behind though so suddently picking up speed he dashed ahead towards Shasta and Yume, quickly covering up the lost ground. Upon noticing Yume though he shook his head climbing on the nearest rock he could find. "Yume..." he called out. "Don't go in the tall grass!" he was just worried, a small frown occupying his features now. "Th-There might be snakes..." he shivered. So long he knew that snakes where bad, really bad things that could hurt you or, even worse, when you were so small, eat you.

Pawing the hard, cold surface of the rock in front of him he scowled. Why did Yume never listen? If she got hurt, what was he to do? What was Shasta to do? Why did she have to be so reckless. Yeah... she was excited... yet this was no reason to go hurt herself. He pulled his ears back, flat, and sat down on his belly watching his sisters persistently. They could have just chosen something... someplace safer, he noted to himself.

Despite her head start, Shasta was disappointed to see her sister catch up to her after she sprinted off. But she was slightly smug with satisfaction. With their warring personalties, Shasta felt the need to challenge her eldest sibling's apparent leadership of their little group. Yume was even with her now as they ran, but Shasta refused to let her get ahead. She pushed herself even harder and then...tripped over her ear. She flew a couple feet and rolled into the base of a tree, upside down. Blowing fur out of face, she giggled. From somewhere behind them, clsoer than she would have expected, she heard Shion call out. Snakes? Another giggle escaped her.

As she tumbled back onto her feet, she brushed up again a green and brown stick that lay loose on the ground. A plan popped into her mind, and she grinned slyling. "SNAKE!" She screamed shrilly, putting as much terror into her voice as she could manage. With her paws she flipped the branch in Shion's general direction. Then she hid behind the tree trunk, waiting. Her brother would probably be ticked off. That was unavoidable. He might even tell Lunatea and Sterlling. Ugh. But if it worked, maybe Shion would get a little scared. Served him right for taking so long and not being excited!

Yume barely heard Shion's warning about snakes as she had reached a large rock and was climbing on top of it. Snakes? Hah. The snakes had to worry about her more than she had about them.

Then, she heard Shasta scream. She wanted to go back to check everything was alright, but.. the timing just seemed too perfect for it to be real. It had to be a prank. Let Shion fall for it, if he did. She'd wait here. The little female was far too proud to let herself seem ridiculous or gullible in the eyes of her younger siblings. She wanted to seem strong, wanted them to look up to her.

After only a moment, though, she started to doubt her decision. What if there really was a snake? A poisonous one? What if it bit Shion or Shasta? Their parents would be so mad at her for not looking out for her siblings..

But wait a minute. Snakes weren't out during nighttime, right? So Yume remembered either one of her parents saying.. That decided it. She'd wait.
