 To the unknowing eye, the frilly pink and white raptor, alert and cautious, was out for a noontime hunt. A nice gory lunch wouldn't stand a chance against her, but contrary to her appearance, it wasn't rabbits Eglantine was after. Instead, the peace-mongering reptile was seeking fruit. Eglantine hated hunting. She detested taking a life for any reason, and besides, Hannah and Esca were always more than happy to help her, and Alucard left a lot of corpses in his wake that, after draining their blood, he had absolutely no interest in. She knew that there was some shame in being a scavenger, but she honestly didn't care. What she did care about was how adversely others seemed to take it, as if it were a personal affront to their lifestyle. As she looked for a vegetarian lunch, she thought about just how many raptors there were who had escaped. Surely at least one or two of them would understand her plight, right? Other than Hannah and Esca, she meant. A male would be nice, too; she was often jealous of the pairs she saw hunting together. But if she was doomed to live single, then that was her fate. A fruity scent caught her nose, and she changed direction and trotted towards it, thoughts of males pushed away by the smell in the air.

 As Jadan was munching a ripe apple, he heard a noise behind him. With his incredible powers of short flight, he flew silently onto an overhead branch.
When the creature walked up, he almost fell out of the tree, she was that beautiful. His heart started hammering fast, and he flew down onto the ground to see her. Flying silently, he flew down behind her.
"Hello, who are you? My name is Jadan, but you can call me Jay!" Jadan said conversationally.

"Eep!" Eglantine squeaked as the big blackish raptor startled her. Her heart pounded as she realized that she wasn't, in fact being attacked. Jumping out of nowhere to scare her was one of Alucard's favorite dirty tricks, but this was no Alucard. This was a stranger, a hopefully friendly one. He was certainly handsome, and very visually striking. The only other raptor she'd ever met who was that dark was Esca, but she was just as shy as Eglantine. Jadan didn't seem shy at all.
However, it was not his mannter, but his extra feathers were what really drew her eye to him. Although his forward manner startled her, she composed herself. She found herself feeling twinges of fellowship with this similarly-feathered fellow. "Well, hello there! It's nice to meet you, Jadan. My name is Eglantine."

"Remember, call me Jay!" Jadan corrected nicely. "Hungry? I can get you an apple, or I can go and hunt for you!"
This female sure was differant than most he had met, even though he only me two other females. This 'Eglantine' was shy and cautious, keeping on the safe side and never taking risks.
Her feathery tail and legs were very pretty, and what attracted him most. Her crest was a most unusually bright color, but he liked it.
"If you prefer, I can catch us a deer to share!"

"All right, then, Jay!" Eglantine giggled happily. "Apples would be wonderful, but I..." She paused for a moment. Jay was nice, that she could see, and a gentleman, but could she tell him her secret. "Jay, I know we've only just met, but if I told you something about me, something kind of embarrassing, would you snap at me and start making fun of me? I know this sounds kind of random, but if we're going to continue talking, I gotta know." She needed to tell him; she really liked this raptor, and hoped that her near vegetarianism wouldn't ruin things between them.

"Sure Eglantine, you can tell me anything, I wouldn't care what it is, no matter what!" Jay said, tilting his head questioningly.
My, this raptor was strange, asking permission to tell me something! At least she is polite!
"Go ahead and tell me!"

Eglantine took a deep breath before continuing. "I'm pretty much a vegetarian. I only eat meat when I have to, because I need the protein and the stuff that's in the blood. I just don't like the idea of hurting any living being... I know it's weird, but it's just the way I am." She paused, waiting for him to say something. "I know it kind of makes me a freak, but it's just the way I am."

"Oh, is that all?" Laughed Jay, "I thought it was going to be something like 'Jadan, I like you as a friend, but that's all we are ever gonna be'! I am so glad it isn't,"
Eglantine must be really afraid of being judged, because she thought I was going to be mad, or not like her anymore just because she was a partial-vegetarian.
"Killing an animal isn't that bad, think of it as letting the animal live. By us killing them swiftly, they wont die of starvation, or water deprivation, which is a very long excruciating death. I wont judge you though, you dont have to worry about keeping secrets from me!" Jay explained.

"I've never thought about it that way. I suppose this world is very cruel, especially to sick, weak animals," Eglantine said. "And I'm glad you're ok with it. You're the first male I've ever met who still talks to me and is kind after I tell them my secret. You're the best, Jay!" Eglantine was finding herself drawn even more to this male. Maybe... after all, he had said that he'd been afraid of her saying that they'd never be more than friends... but perhaps that was hoping for too much.

"I find that very hard to believe, your polite and charming! You just gotta loosen up a little bit, like me!" Jay said tilting his head questioningly. Oh god, was that too forward? Jay wondered behind that foolishly obvious grin plastered all over his face.
"Umm, Uh, im... uh, hungry, Im gonna leave you to yourself for less than a minute to go catch, umm, a mouse our sumthin'!" Jay spluttered, feeling he needed to get fresh air. That female must be going to my brain, I cant think about her being my mate yet, we only met a few days ago, and started talking today. But there was just this instant chemistry, and I could see it in her eyes too, she liked me. We both knew, but none wanted to admit it, in case it surprised or shocked the other. If this is going to happen, it had to happen soon. Whatever, now, im gonna hunt.
As Jay walked on, he glanced over his shoulder and saw Eglantine looking longingly at him, but maybe it was just his imagination. Then he disappeared into the trees.

A mouse. Well, that wasn't so bad. Mice could chew through eggshells... Blushing, Eglantine shook her head. It was a dear wish of hers to be a mother, but she didn't know if Jadan felt the same way. She stared after him as he left, admiring his feathers as they glinted in the sunlight. What a striking pair they would make... if he was interested in being a pair, that is. So handsome, so charming... Eglantine had fallen, and fallen hard. But how to know if he felt the same way? Sighing quietly, she drew a little heart in the dust with her claw. Should she follow him? Or would he come back? She heard once that if you love something, let it go, and if it doesn't come back, it was never yours to begin with. She'd only recently met Jadan, and she didn't want to scare him away or be too clingy. "Come back soon," she said softly.

"Where are you little mousey?" Jay whispered softly. Suddenly he spotted one and leaped. Flipping it over his head, he gulped it down quickly, now conscious of the fact that she was a vegetarian, but that was ok, he just didn't want to offend her! He was on the ground he had fallen so far for her. She was beautiful, and our babies would be very beautiful, maybe a little fluffy too! One of the males might have the red wings I have. Yeah they would be beautiful, but I dont think she likes me. As he headed back, he noticed her little drawing of a heart on the ground and smiled, maybe if he played his cards right, she would be his!
"Hey beautiful, im back!" He sung, starting to hum softly a love song.

Beautiful? He thought she was beautiful? A pink flush came into the pale scales of Eglantine's face as Jadan came back into the clearing. "Well hiya yourself, handsome!" His face was free of blood, which she appreciated. A thought came into her head. "Got any place you need to be in a hurry, or are you free for a little walk with me?" With any luck, he'd be free, and she could show him her favorite place down by the river. She really wanted him to know about it.

The look of appreciation on her face confused him at first, but then he realized it was because he had no trace of just eating on him. Handsome? Hiya? she was loosening up just a tad!
"No, nowhere to go, no one to see, im free!"
Maybe she will catch that little rhyme! True, Scarlet was expecting him back before dark, but that was hours away, and who did he think he was? His dad? As far as I know, I dont even have a dad!
"Sure, I would love to go for a walk with you!"
