Rene scowled, steering Zach out towards the street by the scruff of his neck.
"Goddamnit," The rasp in her voice hadn't gotten any better since she started smoking. Now she just sounded more like a chain smoker than before. "The ******** have I told you about stinging people, you little s**t?!"
"Don't." Zach grumbled, crossing his arms, obviously thinking of stinging her. He was restrained only from the memory that her chains were harder than his stings.
"No desert for you." She growled, hailing a cab.
"b***h."
"And you're getting that ******** mouth of yours washed out with soap. Don't ******** swear!"

Jasper leaned idly against the back of the driver's seat, the wheel between his knees as he meandered his bright green taxi cab through afternoon traffic. All these people on Gaia sure made it hard to get around. Oh, it had been so much easier in the good old days when everybody just walked or rode their bikes. But then they came out with cars, and now the road was clogged up with these crazy contraptions that were more for admiring than actually driving. Still, what could you do? At least he still had a job.
Yeesha, for the most part, seemed quite content to ride in her new guardian's car. He had told her it was a magic car, but so far she had yet to see it do anything extraordinary. It did have a seemingly endless trunk, but the alligator would have hardly called that magical. But the view was nice, and she couldn't help but stick her hands out the window to enjoy the air. Her yellow eyes spotted Rene and Zach when three of Jasper's did, and she waved to them when Jasper pulled the cab sharply over to the curb.
"Hullo there miss, looking for a ride I presume?" The door opened automatically for the pair of them. "Where can I take you?"

The girl pushed Zach into the cab, cigarette still between her lips. She eyed Yeesha and the driver, momentarily wishing for a pair of sunglasses. Then she'd have some sort of barrier from the world.
"Brick street, the pastry shop." She rasped. ********, dealing with this little b*****d made it so she needed some sort of comfort.
Zach gasped. "You said toys!" He accused, glaring.
"I said that before you were a s**t."
"b***h."
"I swear to God," Rene said casually, rolling down her window to flick her cigarette out it, "I'm going to strangle you in your sleep one night. Don't be surprised."
The boy went quiet. "I lock my door."
"You do that."

Well weren't these two absolutely lovely. Jasper didn't lose his smile though, used to dealing with some very bizarre people on Gaia. They were swearing a lot, but that was better than trying to kill each other in the back of his cab. That had happened once, and it had taken him forever to get the blood out of his seats. Mouthing off was okay, so long as it didn't lead to death. "Righto, miss, off we go." The door shut and locked shut as Jasper swung the car back into traffic, cutting off some poor bloke that was a little too slow on the uptake. Snooze you lose.
"So, rules of the cab are pretty simple. No killing each other, no threatening the driver or the co-driver, no taking chunks out of the seats, and keep all forms of bodily excrement in your pants or else out the window. Other than that, feel free to do whatever you need." And with that they were off.
Yeesha couldn't help but stare over her shoulder at the passengers, always interested in the strange sort of people Jasper picked up. This woman looked rather dangerous, so the alligator decided to focus her attention on the strange kid she brought with her. "You're funny looking," she said pointedly at Zach, staring at him with round yellow eyes. "How come you have all thothe wiggly armth?"

Rene gave Jasper a little thumbs up, leaning against the seat. She was content to ignore pretty much everything at this point, unless Zach tried to sting the driver or something.
"Why you gots funny teefs?" Zach countered, crossing his wiggly arms and glaring. "Stupid. Stupid funny teefs!" He huffed. Who cared if he had wriggly arms? Obviously, this funny teefed girl was some sort of weirdo, like they showed on TV.
Rene opened one eye. All right. Had to keep a watch on the little b*****d.

Yeesha's eyes narrowed at the stupid comment, but she new better then to attack customers. It would have been easier if her dad had been driving, seeing as he only had one set of eyes. Jasper, on the other hand, had far too many eyes for her tastes. He could always see what she was doing so long as they were in the same room. It was very annoying sometimes, like now. She could have snuck a bite in with her old guardian.
"Not funny teeth. Tharp teeth. For biting and tearing," she explained, though her tail swished angrily behind her. "Not thtupid! You didn't anther me. Why do you have wiggly armth? They look too big on you." She folded her arms over her chest as though that made them even for insults. Yeesha had learned that the best insults where those cleverly disguised as mere observations. It saved her from getting into trouble with Jasper.

Zach huffed. "They's for stinging. I can sting from far away! My arms long, but your teefs make you talk funny." He added, sticking out his tongue. He snuck a look at his guardian, who had her eyes closed again. Nyah, stupid girl! At least he didn't have a guardian who cared!
Granted, that was something sad in itself...

"They're for what?" Yeesha didn't know what stinging was. It couldn't possibly be better than her biting though. Jekel had teeth like hers, so that meant that sharp teeth were awesomer than awesome. Or something like that. This kid just didn't understand. "What'th thtinging? Thoundth weird. Ith it thomething you uthe to hurt peopleth? Or what?" Having assured herself that the stinging long arms were nowhere near as important as her biting teeth, the alligator girl was quite interested in them. She didn't want to be stung, mind you, but she could talk about them.
"You talk funny too!" She shot back, tail swishing faster. "You thay teefth! No thuch word! It'th teeth! I can say it!" Ha! Take that long armed one!

"They sting!" Zach said, not quite knowing how to describe it. He frowned and crossed his arms, then looked at Rene, prodding her. "'Splain stinging to funny teefs!"
Rene closed her eyes and settled against the window. "Explain it yourself."
Zach huffed and glared. "Stings! Hurts! Makes damage, is bad!" Zach knew he was a naughty boy, and was quite proud of it.

Yeesha couldn't help but feel a little smug when Zach's adult decided that she wasn't going to help him out. It served him right for trying to bring big people into their argument. Big people were only good for helping you reach tall things and being targets in the lake monster game. They also did lots of secret adult things for you, but even so, they still seemed to spend most of their time ruining children's fun. She was glad that Zach's adult wasn't going to ruin their fun. Good for her.
"Maketh damage? Well, if it hurtth then it'th for defenthe! Like teeth, only not as good." Because teeth were definitely better than long jelly arms. Not to mention teeth could also be used for offense. "Do you feel like Jell-o?" She asked, after a moment, very tempted to poke him. But he had those long wiggly arms that would hurt her, so she had to be careful.

Zach blew his cheeks out at her, then wrapped his tendrils around his wrist, extending his hand to her.
"There. Won't 'thting' you." He said, rolling his eyes. "Not know what Jello is." He did have a stiffer jiggle to his limbs, but nothing nearly like jiggle. "And they's good for more than stinging. They..." He thought hard, thinking of what he'd been told. "They make... Poy...Son? Can hurt people, make them sick."

Oooh, much better. "I wathn't worried about thting," Yeesha lied, as she reached out to touch his hand gingerly. She giggled and poked it, watching the small movements eagerly. "You are jiggly like Jell-O! But not quite ath jiggly. I think it'th very cool!" As if her opinion made all the difference, but to Yeesha her opinion was something to be highly thought of. After all, she was the boss. There was a huge difference between those who sat in the front seat and those who had to sit in the back seat.
"Jell-O... Jell-O ith like wiggly wiggly!" She moved her arms to demonstrate the word. "You can poke it and it jiggleth. Kind of like you! I don't think you tathte good though." The alligator girl added the last bit rather thoughtfully. Jell-O tasted good, but she doubted he did. He didn't look very tasty to her. "Why would you want to make people thick?"

"Am cool." He agreed. "And your teefs aren't bad either." Hey, you gave him a compliment, he'd give you one. He wasn't totally a little a*****e. Just not very friendly.
Zach thought about this for a moment, then licked his other hand. "Nope, not taste good." He agreed. "And... Why not? If they's bad, they should get sick. If they's mean, should get sick." He shrugged. His view of the world was very narrow, and there were few goods in it.
Yeesha was, however, riding a gray line between 'bads' and 'goods'. Time would tell!

Yeesha grinned at the compliment, quite happy to be giving things in turn. Fair trade wasn't exactly something she understood, except of course when it came to violence. For example, if you drew on her pretty sundress she would pull on your hair lots to make up for it. It was very simple. Compliments, however, seemed to fall under the same sort of rule, and the alligator girl was pleased.
"Good. Don't want peopleth to be eating you! That would be thad." She gave a sage nod at this, as though departing some great wisdom to the young jellyfish. "But what if you make good perthon thick by acthident? Then what? Bad people can be thtinged inthtead! That way they know they are bad. Otherwithe, how do they know?"

Yeesha wasn't the only one to understand such a line of thinking. Zach had been promised a day to the beach when he'd gone a whole day without stinging someone. Therefore, good things were rewarded with good things. Bad things were rewarded with bad things, like hitting.
Zach thought for a moment, then shrugged. "I don't hit just anybody. So, if they got poisoned, then they must have been doing bad!" Simple child.
