"Pway?"

"Yes, Evi, your aunty Noya is coming to play. She's bringing Akilah with her." Rune straightened the last of the boxes that stacked the living room wall and sighed, glancing over in the playpen where Yvette watched her with wide eyes. With Daimon and Angel both sick and Horo Horo getting there, Rune had left the three other infants with Aimee at her cousin's house and come back to make sure most of their stuff was packed up. And of course, so Noyama and Akilah could meet Yvette.

"But why?"

"Because, Kilah, Rune want meet Rune's baby...uh..." Yvette, right? Like hell she'd be able to say a name like that. Oh well, Rune would introduce her to Kilah anyway, no doubt.

"No," Kilah grumbled, tightening the blindfond over her eyes. "I mean why did YOU have to come?"

The protector sighed and rolled her eyes. Sango had never been this much trouble. Twila had never been this much trouble. Even Noharu's 'daughter' was more behaved than Kilah! What had she done wrong?

Gizmo snorted a bit, purposely jolting to the side. Kilah kicked him lightly and he decided it better not to try that again. The Sin'aeis had gotten lazy when it came to walking lately. If you had a griff plenty capable of carrying you, would YOU walk? It seemed he was a substitute eye dog and horse.

"Hello?" Noyama called from outside, once close enough. Knocking on doors wasn't a custom she'd gotten use to yet. Yelling. Yelling was good.

At the sound of Noyama's voice, Yvette made a small, happy baby sound, gazing expectantly at the door. Rune grinned wryly, having heard part of the conversation, and pulled the door open. "She came because I'd like to visit with her while you visit Yvette." She told Kilah, speaking as though she were at least their own age and intelligence. "I haven't seen your mother in a while, and it's nice to see both of you. Yvette's in the playpen, it's in the left-hand corner of the room." Then she glanced up at Noyama with a mischievous look, hugging her friend. "And you can just call her Evie. That's what we've been doing."

"Ki!" The yell from the playpen made it clear Yvette was listening. She kicked the side of the wire mesh with her stocking foot, making it rattle. "Ki No-ha giff gif!"

"I think that means 'Kilah, Noya, griffen, and gift." Rune snorted, eyeing the baby fondly. "She loves words, but she's not used to saying them yet."

(*laughs* And she does have a gift for Kilah.)

"Oh, how great!" Kilah chirped fakely. What did these adults think she was, stupid? They were the idiots. Damn old people. She chose to ignore the fact Noyama was only in her teens and many of her friends were about as old or not much older than her. "Maybe later we can have tea!" She waited for the elbow in the side, but it never came.

Noyama was naive in all aspects of the world. Which, apparently, included being rude. Perhaps not so much, as she did send the girl a wary glance, one that could say 'Give it rest' without the actual words, followed by a roll of her eyes. "Nice see again, Rune!" Unlike Kilah, her peppy voice was a real one. "Evie, yes. Very pretty name."

"I think it's stupid. Not that mine is better, but I blame you for that. What's with parents and stupid names?" Kilah complained. However, she didn't seem to expect a response, as she abandoned the two protectors without waiting for one. "Gizmo has to stay outside," she explained to the room. "He catches things on fire too easily when he's indoors." Dumb dog...er..griff.

With the baby making so much noise, it was easy enough to get generally close to where she was. "Kilah. It's Kilah." Little brat. Babies. Ugh...

Yvette frowned slightly, but not as if she were angry. More like she was thinking very hard. "Ki - Ki-ah." Her frown darkened, and she tried again. "Ki - lah. Ki-lah!" Now she looked quite pleased. "Ki-lah gif!"

Rune made no comment about Kilah's 'greeting,' as it were; from what she'd heard, it wasn't as bad as it could have been, and she'd definitely seen worse. She simply raised an eyebrow, then grinned and picked up a loosely wrapped present from where it rested on the small end table. Carefully she touched one edge to Kilah's hand so the girl could take it. "Yvette helped to pick it out - she wanted to get you a doll, too, but we couldn't find any she liked."

(This is inside the present:

Kilah's first response was quirking a brow. The concept that someone you'd never even met before would get you a present was one she didn't seem to get. It was...just weird. Still, stuff was stuff, and she liked having it. Mainly, having more of it than any of her sisters did. Particularly Sango and Twila.

Being blind prevented her from noticing through means of sight, but she could almost feel Noyama leering at the back of her head warningly. The protector was generally a push over, but every once in a while she'd assert some authority. "Thank you," she said flatly, neither all that rude or polite. The wrapping was torn off in one swift motion and shoved in her pocket--it could probably be used for something later.

The object in one hand, her other ran over it. Her thumb traced over the gem in the center for a few seconds. "I like it," she said honestly, tucketing it away in the same pocket. "What's it for?" Nothing, she guessed. Jewelry.

Yvette frowned and made a small, frustrated noise, looking up at her mother. It was a pain not to be able to speak like everyone around her could; she had so many words bottled up, but she couldn't make them come out right! Rune smiled wryly. "It's supposed to power different things, like energy swords, but I'm fairly certain it can create energy fields, too."

"War-duh." Yvette managed carefully, proud that she knew what the word meant. "Ward." Then she smiled. "Ki-lah ike?"

"Wooow, that's amazing," Kilah said sarcastically. Really, she'd hoped somewhere in there how much it was worth would be mentioned. Not that she had any plans to go pawn the thing, but having things worth money was good.. Bragging rights and...stuff. "You need to listen," she grumbled in the baby's direction. Hadn't she just said she liked it? A whine from outside seemed to summon her. "I'm going outside." Despite her lack of vision, she had little trouble finding her way back outdoors.

"Very sorry," Noyama apologized before the Sin'aeis barely had one foot out the door. "Kilah rude. Why, don't know. Sango good girl." She hardly expected them to act the same, just sort of...hoped they would. Her and Noharu were nothing alike.

Rune glanced wryly out the door after Kilah, then shrugged and gestured for Noyama to follow her into the mostly-bare kitchen. "She's not quite as bad as some of the people I've met." She assured her friend. "I'm a diplomat, remember? Well, sort of, but either way, a lot of the kind I have to deal with are nasty psychos. Kilah is a refreshing change." And shorter than Rune, which was a bonus.

Yvette frowned slightly, apparently thinking hard as she watched Kilah head outdoors. Yes, she had been listening, but she'd wanted to make sure; her mom liked Noyama, and Yvette wanted to see if Kilah would like her, too. Now Kilah was outside with her griffon. Yvette wanted to see the gryphon, and Kilah.

Okay, that meant she had to get out of the crib.

Peering around, she finally found what she was looking for: a toy screwdriver, leftover from her brothers' games earlier. Stretching up to the corner of the playpen, she jammed the end of the toy into a small hole just visible on this side of the framing, pushing hard. Tao had figured out this trick a few days ago - she hadn't had to use it before, but it certainly worked. With a shake, the sides of the playpen collapsed to the ground in a rattling thump, leaving Yvette free to start the laborious crawl toward the door. Damnit, why couldn't she walk like everyone else did?!?

Only Noyama could manage was an understanding 'hm'. Truth be told, she had absolutely no idea what Rune had just said. Aside from something about psychos. She needed to spend some more time with the girl before she passed her off as sane. Twila swore she wasn't, and Noyama sometimes wondered...

Oh well. Shrug. "Ah, yes," she agreed at the mention of 'refreshing'. Again, she had little idea what the word was suppose to represent, but quite a few people had said that so it must be true. Majority rules. "Friend Rune is...spring cleaning?"

"Wark," Gizmo half-barked, half-chirped as the thump rang out. What was with babies these days? They could never stay put. He didn't like them, really, for different reasons than Kilah. They just made them nervous, they annoyed her.

"I know, just ignore it," she said from her place sitting beside him, carving thoughtlessly into a stick with one of her daggers.

"Friend Rune is moving." Rune rummaged in the fridge for a moment, then straightened. "What do you like to drink, Noya?" It had occured to her that she didn't have a clue what Noyama usually ate or drank. And that considering what she knew of where Noya came from, she probably hadn't gotten the bit about diplomats. Damn. She really ought to think before she spoke sometime.

Yvette paused at the open door, panting slightly as she sat back on her small bum and rested for a minute. Crawling across the room was a pain in the butt. Still, she could see Kilah and the Gryphon now, and that was better. But what was Kilah making? She couldn't tell. Pausing, she eyed the Gryphon warily. That beak and those talons looked sharp, and besides, Kilah had said fire before. That was also a bad thing if she handled it wrong, Mirelle said so. Gently, she extended a tiny hand, palm up. "Goo - Good Ki-lah giffen?"
PostPosted: Fri Sep 30, 2005 10:02 pm

"Am fine, thank you," she assured her friend, glancing around thoughtfully. She was curious as to why, but thought it rude to ask. Lucky taught everyone in the household to mind their own business best they could. "Where?" Questioned the fox demon, deciding she was being more concerned than nosey and therefore had the right to ask.

Akilah growled slightly. "He won't bite you or anything, if that's what you're asking," she answered in a hiss. Closer up, it was more obvious she wasn't just carving the stick--she was sharpening it. She'd discard it later, this was merely to provide some sort of entertainment. Why gauge eyes out with a pointed stick when you had various daggers with you?

"I don't think he'll catch you on fire, either." No doubt he could, but all the fires started by him on accident had been in small, wooden buildings.

Yvette's face brightened. Akilah had answered her, at least. Now, what was it Mom said to say - she had it! "Tank - Thanks." Softly, she petted Gizmo's smooth beak, smiling. Peeking over at Kilah's carving, Yvette studied the stick intently. She'd seen something like this before, but not as small. "Ki-lah make spear?" She questioned respectfully.

"Just a bit closer to Barton and the new shop." Rune dug out a Diet soda for herself and sat at the table, looking around ruefully. "With twenty-two kids, six adults and probably more on the way, this place just isn't big enough anymore. So we got a bit more land, and I convinced a couple of my cousin's people to give me a hand building up the house." Of course, it hadn't exactly been convincing, but Noya didn't need to know that. Rune smiled, taking a sip of her soda. "So how've you been? Any new additions lately?"
PostPosted: Fri Sep 30, 2005 10:46 pm

The attention was plenty welcomed by the pile of feathers known as Gizmo, who chirped happily and nudged the baby's hand. "Wark!"

"I guess you can call it that." Not that she would. Spears were Noyama's department. She always had that one in her room--Ananech or something, she called it. "I like daggers more." All weapons were good weapons, but daggers were the first to be handed over to her. It was only natural she'd take to them.

"Ah." Noyama nodded in a somewhat sympathetic way. Moving was a pain, she knew that for sure. What she (still) didn't know was the number system they used here. Clueless as to how many twenty-two and so on were, she just assumed it was a respectable amount. She couldn't imagine her family as big as some of her friends. "Yes," she answered, thinking. It had been so long since she'd seen Rune, and it was hard to remember who she had and hadn't been told of already.

"Werewolf girl come once, only short time. She leave next day. Name...Kaiyumi, say not live anywhere, want go many places." Such an odd girl, that was. She and Noyama got along great, but at the same time confused the hell out of each other. "Kotoki and Twila," she finished, and couldn't think of anyone else.

"Ike Co-ee, Wose." Yvette nodded. Her sisters were trained with daggers, and quite good with them, though the youngest kids had been forbidden to touch the weapons until they were older. Smiling and continuing to pet Gizmo, she continued, "Ki-lah goo fight dag-er?" Her tone made it more of a statement than a question, as though she were certain.

Twila - Rune thought for a minute, but could only remember that the baby had been blond. "A werewolf? Maybe she'll come back." That might be nice, though with the things Shiran had discovered while they were away, he might need a little time before he met one of his own kind. "Do you have pictures, maybe?" Not that she was betting Noya did. She loved the fox demoness like a sister, but Rune knew she probably hadn't yet acclimated herself to Gaia any more than she had to. "Kotoki - I haven't heard of him, either. How are Sango and Lucky getting on?"

(Shiran = MAJOR plot twist that Tenshi will either love or hate. *pets him* And now I do have to go, dangit.)
