Reminder: wahmbulance SPOILER ALERT! wahmbulance (Read at your own risk.) So somewhere in the chapter Too-Much-Information-Alert, written by Jacob, Leah tells why Sam thinks they imprint. To carry on the line. They're drawn to the person who gives the best chance to pass on the wolf gene. But there's one problem. Can Renesmee have babies? She's a vampire-human, who will be immortal once she's around seven years old. Vampires can't have babies. Humans can. If Renesmee can have babies, wouldn't the baby be half-shapeshifter-25%-vampire-25%-human?

Meyer failed at logic here.
I was wondering the same thing. Even though Jacob imprinted ( yes, jacob fans can be happy now ) I still think he's pretty much screwed, which was so not fair for him at all. And that made me mad.
Plus doesn't Nessie have venom in her? Venom is poisonous to werewolves so I think there's less chance for a baby to even develope if you ask me neutral
Maybe someone else can explain this better than me though sweatdrop

I agree with Miss BunnyCupCakes about Meyer failing with logic again. (God, your name made me hungry for bunny shaped cup cakes. Or bunny's made out of cupcakes. Either one.)
Yes, Sam's believes imprinting is for passing on the gene, but Jacob has also said that Billy believes it makes a werewolf stronger. :/ Which I call bullshit because the magical goody-goody imprinting made Paul mellow.
So I stick with Sam's theory that imprinting is to pass on the shape shifting gene. Unless Meyer wants to play the bad writer card and go, "ACTUALLY, imprinting is blah blah. I just didn't put it in the book because it was all in my head." Ugh.
I think Nessie can't create other vampires because Neuhal(or whatever the hell the plot device's name is) said he had other hybrid sisters who can't make vampires like he can. So I think we can safely rule out Nessie containing effective venom in her, but she's going to stop growing at age seven. From what Meyer presents us, Nessie's body will keep growing until it hits maturity and will stop and be immortal like a vampire. I would believe that the immortal part would be due to her vampire half and since female vampires can't have kids, Nessie can't have kids.
Unless Jacob knocks her up while she's still growing, but that's just horrible and will make me dislike imprinting even more.
And if Nessie does have functional reproduction organs and is able to have mutant babies with Jacob, how can a child grow in her womb when her skin is just like a vampire's, hard and diamond-like? Her skin couldn't possibly move to accommodate a developing baby.
Which leads to the hypothetical Jake-Nessie mutant baby. Their child would be part shapeshiter, part vampire, and part human. How in the world is that passing on the gene successfully. Their child would be an even bigger walking contridiction than Nessie since it would be part vampire and part shapeshifter. What would the poor kids scent be like? Disgusting to his or her own self?
I wish Meyer would explain things better instead of always resorting to interviews to answer things that should've been in the book. :/

I agree with both of you, BunnyCupCakes (cute, not to mention yummy, name) and Syrette (that sounds seriously cool). Actually, somewhere in Breaking Dawn, Seth mentioned that it's a good thing that Ness--I mean RENESMEE-- is not venomous; she bites Jake a lot. Mutant baby... That's something quite interesting to ponder about. Would that make it possible that the Cullen line will be somehow connected to the werewolves from then on? To me, that would be awkward, since vampires and "werewolves" (aka shapeshifters) are supposedly mortal enemies. Would Renesmee's "child" would be something to make peace between the clans, if she herself hasn't already? I wish we could aske Stephenie about this.

I dunno..I agree with Syrette..once Renesmee stops growing she'll be like any other vampire and can't have kids..
I think this is just another fail by Meyer. The whole imprint thing is ridiculous to me..

Nessie isn't venomous because she bit bella and Edward still had to turn her into a vampire and she bites Jake all the time. I also think that that if Jake got her pregnant before she stopped aging she could have kids who would probably be amazing because they are both vampire and shapeshifter, but if she stops aging then I think she won't be able to have kids. So Sam could be right.
