Jumoke sat under the shade of a tree, her tail flicking back and forth behind her. It wasn't normal for her to lay down unless she really needed to sleep, let alone sit in the shade for very long... But there she was, lounging under the thick branches. However, her eyes were bright and alive. They flickered from side to side, up and down, taking in the side of the trunk.

The cause of her amusement was a long trail of ants that were currently walking up the side of the tree. Having noticed the tiny bugs, she had quickly become entranced. She found it interesting that they all moved together, and secretly she wondered how all of them didn't get lost or confused... She would have gotten lost a long time ago!

While watching the marching ants, she had failed to notice that she was partially sitting on the ant's home... That is, until she started feeling dozens of tiny stings along her back legs and rump... Blinking twice, she looked behind her then frowned in confusion. There wasn't anything there... But the wounds grew in number, until she couldn't ignore the attack. And by now it was quite painful. Whining loudly, she jumped up and started rolling around in the sun dried dirt, body flailing left and right as she tried to get the unseen attacker off of her.

It was good to get away from her family every once in a while. Muli sighed and shook herself as she trotted about. She was supposed to be hunting...but she knew the others wouldn't begrudge her a little breathing time. After all...she'd been helping to raise not only her own cubs, but her soul-sister's as well. She never thought being a mother was so tiring...

Her sensitive white ears caught strange sounds and she blinked. What on earth? Curious, she followed the sounds to stop several feet from a dull orange lioness that seemed to be having problems with...something. And was flailing about in the dirt.

"Uhm...Are you alright miss?"

Jumoke continued to roll around, kicking up a large cloud of dust. She didn't notice the other female at first, too caught up in her own troubles. But then she stopped and laid on her side, panting. Her eyes settled on Muli's paws, then slowly trailed up to her face.

"...Oh! Hey! There's... something... attacking me!" She looked at her behind, frowning. "But it must be very quick, because every time I look, it's gone! But it still hurts!"

Something...attacking? Muli looked rather bewildered, blinking her bright green eyes. She looked about, then noticed the half-ruined anthill. She blinked again.

"Would you mind if a take a look at where you hurt?" If her theory was correct...She mentally winced. Muli remembered all too well her cubhood encounters with ants. And their venom lasted. And hurt!

She eyed Muli wearily, then nodded with a painful frown. "Oh please do! Do you see the fiend? Please do something if you can!" Whimpered, laying on her stomach. Her claws kneaded at the hard ground in pain, desperately wanting to roll around in the dirt some more... But she wouldn't be able to see her clearly if she was flailing around..

Muli gave a look of sympathy to the lioness and quickly confirmed what she thought. Ants were the culprits. With a few quick swipes of her paws (claws kept sheathed of course), she wiped off the ants that still remained on the other. "Looks like you annoyed an anthill. They won't bite you anymore, long as you stay away from the half-ruined mound over there..." She indicated the anthill. "But you'll sting for a bit. Ant venom can't kill, but it's REALLY annoying. I know first hand."

She shivered in remembrance of the long ago bites. "I'm sorry you ended up with so many. They were hard for you to see on your own because they are small, and colored about the same as the dust."

Jumoke blinked in wonder when the other lioness spoke. That made sense, but it seemed to take her a few moments to really grasp the concept. And when she did, she just frowned and sat on her stung rump, head lowered. "I was just watching them march... Wasn't hurting them..." She muttered softly, sadly. She decided right then and there that ants were not very nice creatures.

Her sorrow ended swiftly though. She looked up at Muli wide-eyed, then smiled broadly. "My name is Jumoke. Thank you for saving me... It seems like you know quite a lot about ants."

Muli chuckled. "I don't know much. I just know what happens when one seems to offend them. Got bit by them as a cub once." She sat down herself, making sure to avoid ants.

"I'm Msimulizi...but most call me Muli. It is a pleasure to meet you Jumoke." She smiled kindly. "Do you live around here? Or are you a wanderer?"

She smiled and sat also, though her tail continued to flop back and forth excitedly. Her paws also squirmed a bit, suggesting that she had a serious problem staying still...

Either way, she gave Muli her full attention, eyes and smile bright. "Nice to meet you too!" She paused at the question, then shook her head causing her ears to flop a bit. "No, I just wanderer, I guess. I don't really have a home. But I don't mind. I like seeing new things!"

"You can move about if you want." She was used to fidgety by now...her cubs had been rather fidgety at first. Still were sometimes. "Seeing new things is good. New things means new stories to tell and songs to sing." Oh yes...but Muli knew full well that would be put on hold for a while once she reached her destination with Chuk and Maluuni and Kip and the cubs...

"I'm a wanderer by nature...but my mate and I are headed to a place where our cubs won't be looked down on, so we can raise them in peace..." Achana...a green place where hybrids were embraced and loved...

"Oh!" She smiled appreciatively and stood, starting to pace slowly. Her eyes remained on the older female, however, set on giving her all of her attention. "Muli is a nice name! I'm really glad that you saved me from the ants."

The last thing she said made her stop though, blinking in slight confusion. "Looked down upon...? Why on earth would anyone do that?" Her head tilted, ears fanning out wide and forward. "If they're anything like you, I'm sure they're wonderful children!"

Muli chuckled. "It was no problem. Ants can be quite a pest at times." She saddened a bit, however. Such an innocent lioness...and a sweet one. Muli admired her for it.

"It's not who they are that has many looking down on them...It's what they are." She sighed. "My mate is a leopard, and my cubs are a mix of the best of us. Sadly...there are many who think such unions are disgusting."

Ju blinked, her head tilting to the side. She did not understand the ways of predujices, since she held no hate like that. She saw everyone as the same.

"Oh... I'm sorry." She brightened again, smiling at the older lioness. "Well... those people aren't very nice then! And they shouldn't be friends with you anyway. So... I wouldn't worry about it, so long as you have your family. Family counts more." She nodded sagely, smiling.

Muli chuckled and nodded. "Thank you, for your kind words." She smiled brightly. "Family does count for a great deal. But sadly...words can do a great deal of damage to a young one's heart." She nodded, almost to herself.

"I protect them from what I can...but I wish for them to grow up in peace, with others their age who won't look down on them."

Jumoke frowned slightly, her ears tilting back a little. She didn't quite understand or grasp the situation... She'd never had cubs before, let alone hybrids. She'd never even seen one before. She wondered for a moment if they were mosnterous or ugly... or something.

"Um... well..." She tilted her head, eyes squinting as she thought. "Maybe you could find other people like you! Surely there are others. You could be friends with them."
