I am not pleased at all with Hot Topic selling a "gothic lolita" collection.
I would like everyone who feels the same as I do, to sign the thread to boycott Hot Topic. Honestly, there are far better places to buy from.

And I quote...Nefarious Vile
Mana cannot sue Hot Topic; Mana did not create the Gothic Lolita fashion even though it may seem like it. They just take what's popular and sell it or something like it, nothing you can really do to stop it. I haven't seen the Tokyo dress in person but like I said, one of the dresses was not made cheaply at all but it was hella unoriginal. Hot Topic sells many brands, some may or may not be cheap but I've seen cheaper made on the egl livejournal community. It won't ever get big at Hot Topic so I wouldn't plan anything against it.
They lack many things that bring Lolita together. Such as the proper accessories, shirts, under garments, popular labels, the right skirts & dresses, and other things like cute parasols. What they have is basically a dress with a tulle underneath and looks somewhat similar to gothic Lolita but it's not it exactly. They shouldn't even be calling it Gothic Lolita. You shouldn't worry about it or waste your time on boycotting this. They only have 2 items that resemble Lolita yet they lack so much it isn't really Lolita at all.
Though one important thing you should care about is getting out the right message . What makes up the loli fashion and such? Gothic Lolita isn't just a tulle black dress with lace.
I think we should stop calling what they sell Gothic Lolita because it isn't. We know how it's properly done, so let's try to get the message straight. <3 That's all we can do at least.

I dont buy stuff from Hottopic anymore. Their stuff is way too expensive. I much rather take the time to make something myself; or get stuff off ebay. :3

I'm not going to boycott Hot Topic because it's trying to captalize off of a hot marketing oppurtunity. I'm sure that if you owned a large clothing and merchandise franchise, you would try to sell Lolita or Lolita-like items, too.
I don't even go to Hot Topic anyways. It doesn't really appeal to me (no, not even their awsome anime stuff. I can wait for conventions or buy off the internet).

Mana de Mayfair
Honestly, there are far better places to buy from.
~Signed~ No one is forcing anyone to buy the hot topic lolita-esque clothing. wink Simply, if you want to buy from there..then buy from there. If you don't, then order from Metamorphose or whatever.
I don't see how Hot Topic jumping on the gothic lolita bandwagon is any different from what other companies do, they're not the first ones to do it. Example: Lately I have seen t-shirts and sweatshirts with writing or images stitched into the fabric. I see it at one store and soon everyone is selling it-this being everything from American Eagle, to Hollister, to target. This is just what happens when a certain fashion becomes popular. To clear things up, take a look back at the begining of summer, when those boho skirts (I can't think of an exact proper term) were super popular. You'd see those everywhere too. -I'm not trying to stir up trouble or anything, so forgive me if my point came off rude at all. + Nefarious Vile- I applaud your statement.

While I agree that Hot Topic's "lolita" (and I said it that way because it is their own, usually erotisiced version of what they think gothic & lolita fashion is, not what it really is) sucks, I have to say that I actually WISH there was a Hot Topic in Canada, more specifically in my city so that I could buy cheap accessories and shoes. All we have here is a fetish/stripper shoe store that occasionally sells stuff that could be used and isn't ugly, and an independent goth store that carries a very small amount of accessories and shoes, and the ones that they do are all expensive UK goth stuff (I do have a pair of boots I got from there that I saved for a really long time to buy though).

AND AGAIN I POST:This is the dress I got a Hot Topic for homecoming: http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/store/product.jsp?FOLDER<>folder_id=2534374302024145&PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524442086589&bmUID=1128101017930 I'm not fond of the model, but it's still a lolita style dress (and I think the name is cute too: Tokyo Doll Dress).
I do hate how it's not of good quality, but it was $64 so I don't really care 'cause it's not like my other dress that I spent over a $150 on.
Now I also can not stand these people that diss Hot Topic and the people who shop at the store. I shop there. I know other people who shop there. This hole "Goth is an architecture and ancient people. I'm nonconformist so I don't shop at Hot Topic. I won't wear anything that someone else already owns or buys after I buy mine" ideas bug me. They're unfair. So what if I shop at Hot Topic every now and then? I'm gonna wear what I LIKE. If it happens to come from a mass producing store that is well known for its poor quality or if it's ordered from some unknown dress maker in China, WHO CARES? I mean, really, how childish are you gonna be? It's clothing for christsakes! I mean, I do not shop at Old Navy, but that's because of a bad memory from childhood involving that store. I know people who shop there. They sell cute boxers that I wouldn't mind getting a pair of for my boyfriend. It has nothing to do with "OMG Old Navy isn't gothic." or "Eeeew! Old Navy is so not kawaii! They don't sell anything lolita-esque in there." I mean seriously. Does it really matter in the long run? No. Not at all. And personally, I do find the dress I bought at Hot Topic to be truly lolita. Maybe not the best lolita dress, but it fits the desription. Sure Hot Topic is just trying to make money, but that's just what Baby, the Stars Shine Bright is doing, that's what Mary Magdeline is doing: trying to make money. So what if Hot Topic is going about this lolita thing the worng way, it's still lolita. I mean, would you hate Mana if he came to America and saw that dress and bought it? Would you really? If you really feel the way you do, than you would hate Mana if he did such a thing. Yes, I realize it's HIGHLY unlikely that Mana will do such a thing, but if he did...?
If you still don't see my point of view, read this journal that I posted on DA about an argument I recently got in with a friend over the same issue:Quote: And then at lunch today, Justin was a total a**. I mean yesterday he said that I was "too Hot Topic." Okay, no big deal. Maybe I am, even if I haven't bought anything from there in months and the last thing I did buy was 4 months ago and was for a friend not for myself. I don't see any problem with shoipping in stores. But Justin does. I don't think that because lately I've been buying most of my clothes at Charlotte Russe and the Body Shop makes me preppy. I like the clothes there, and they're at good prices (except Charlotte...@_@ ). And then I told him how Dan is taking me to see The Corpse Bride this Saturday and he starts going on how its gonna be such a bullshit movie because Hot Topic endorses it. This made me REALLY mad. I've been waiting for this movie to come out for over a year. This was before Hot Topic endorsed it and before I knew Johnny Depp was voicing Victor. I LOVE ZOMBIES. Plain and simple. He needs to quit being such an a*****e (seriously, he's been worse than Dan lately... >_< ). It shouldn't matter where people buy their clothes. It shouldn't matter what company endorses what you like. I mean, I support PETA, but not everything they do. PETA's not going to tell me to go ******** myself because of that. :/ And then he calls me Rebecca. His words were "The ******** b***h goes by Recca to be and cool and different. Her real name is Rebecca and I'm gonna call her that 'cause she's ******** Hot Topic chick." I then told him, "Hey, if you wanna call me by my real name, then it's Lisa. It was changed to Rebecca after I was adopted, b***h." (I was getting angry). I don't consider Rebecca to be my real name. I've been going by Recca since the 6th grade, and that was before I knew Hot Topic existed! I didn't find out about Hot Topic until Dani-cakes asked me if I shopped there. And besides, what I go by does not make me a "******** Hot Topic chick." I know I'm not making any sense, but it made me really mad that I'm being judged like that by him. I've stood up for him when people have talked smack about him. He was my first friend at Gulf Breeze. But he just crossed the line. I seriously lost all my respect for Justin today. And just because he wants to be so original and different. Well, if he wants to label me, then he CAN say that I'm "a Mana and Rob Zombie poseur who loves zombies, is a vegetarian, draws anime and anthro, and I will call her Lisa because that is her real name." http://seraphynth.deviantart.com/journal/6565868/Do you see what I mean yet?

I kind of agree with what everyone else said. But have you asked yourself, would a multi million dollar company take something like this seriously, when you send them an email, going on about how they suck, and provide a link to this thread where people have signed?
I doubt it. confused Funy thing would be, that Gaia becomes Sponsored by Hot topic. rolleyes
And plus, things for hot topic is too small for me. xp So signing a petition to end them wouldnt involve me

While I am not fond of the lolita sold at Hot Topic there are plenty of things they do sell that I like and would buy, if they weren't so damn expensive. But I do like the idea of making my own loli outfits, but that's just my opinion and has nothing to do with Hot Topic, I just don't care for the Lolita outfits I have seen at the one near me.

I just don't like the fact that they are calling it gothic lolita, when its not. It perturbs me because its so expensive, and now anyone who doesn't know a thing about gothic lolita thinks they are a loli, when they simply aren't. And then they can go out acting anyway they please, and give lolita's a bad name...because people are stupid and stereotypical.

*~ heart *~* heart ~* (comes out of lurking-ness to give my say)
Though I am not pleased with Hot Topic's "Gothic Lolita" attire, I must say that everyone has been concentrating and ranting about it for far to long. A few people will wear it and think its cute or cool or whatever, with no idea what they're wearing. Irritating, yes. That big of a deal, no. Not many will be taking much notice to the style of clothing it is, and it won't be getting really popular anytime soon. If you're upset for the little advertisement (all though not the best of one) the style is getting, there is one simple thing you can do. Don't buy it. If you don't buy it, you're not encouraging it in any way. So stop complaining! It's not like we can stop them from selling dresses claimed to be loli just because we don't want them to do it. Unless you can come up with a good reason to why they can't sell it, stop fussing over this topic so much. *~ heart *~* heart ~*
