Does anyone find thrifting a productive method of finding somewhat dated clothing? Or would vintage stores produce better results.

I don't live near any such stores. The closest thing to such around here would be the Goodwill. lol
And I can't walk in there with out my brain constantly chanting at me,"Dead people's clothes, dead people's clothes, dead people's clothes, dead people's clothes... " eek Yeeeeah, it's silly.

The few I've been to have been pretty cool. I found two very well made anime figures that I couldn't afford.

Ah, Goodwill. I find some really fun raggedy dresses there from time to time. Hmm...I feel like the best place to find such things as Victorian clothes would be England....

I regularly check out yard sales and value village. It's a fantastic way to find interesting hats. Great shoes, too, provided they're in good condition. I'm finding less and less joy when it comes to clothes, these days...Does no one throw away interesting plus-sized clothes anymore?

Well, I go to goodwill. I have found two of my favorite pieces of clothing there! One would be a --pin striped, black, black lace edging, lace up-- very nice vest/top. The other would be a --puffy, right below the knee, black, little riffles every 7 (?) inches, zips up, starts out below the bust and starts to poof at the waist-- skirt. They also go lovely together.

I live by several thrift stores with god deals for NORMAL clothes (my brother finds great deals) BUT there also happens to be 3 theaters in our city that raid them for anything with TRUE potential. They use them in their plays and also rent out beautiful costumes that they put together. Unfortunately, I think they must have worked out a deal with the stores to let them in early or else the stores save out stuff that looks really cool because the people that work at the theaters always have the jump on me, even though I have been rather diligent looking for some old things that I can modify into awesome Steam Punk stuff.
