I don't have an exact favourite, but Super Mario Brothers would be pretty damn close to it.

Einhander
Ikaruga
Disgaea
too many...

And what type of shooter do you mean?Side scroll,top down,fps,tps?A good ps1(hence ps2)side scroller shooter would be einhander,but it is extremely rare.

OKay, I'll go by genre as well.

Fighter: Street Fighter Alpha 3 (PS1 port)
This fought with SSBB for a while, but I must agree with Nit on this one.

Strategy: Civilization IV
Turn-based lawl.

RPG: Chrono Trigger
A solid game for the times. ohoho pun.

Shooter: Imperishable Night (lol touhou)
Screw those FPS's.

Simulation: Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies
Damn good flying. Made me spend a lot of hours over at my cousin's.

Platformer: Super Mario Bros.
A brilliant classic.

Adventure: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
What a stupid genre, but a great game to play despite how short it is.

Racing: Gran Turismo
The game that brought me out of Need For Speed long enough to understand cars.

Puzzle: Tetris
Classic fun.

Party: Super Monkey Ball 2
This game is a riot of fun, solo and multi. At least, I had fun.

Rhythm: Elite Beat Agents
DDR would go here but the game itself is stupid. Elite Beat Agents, is as well, but in a good way.

Genres were mostly pulled from Gamespot.

Also SSBB isn't really hardcore enough at all to contend with streetfighter.
