Rocks was not sleeping with Zorba and she was not sleeping with Nocturnal. She was cozied up in her own small nest beside Nocturnal's hidey hole in the wall. She slept there during her lessons with the witch, but now she was there because she was still sore with Zorba. She cuddled against Waffle House's pearly plumage, giving little snores, hoping she could dream read tonight...

She was in a box. It was not a very big box, wood on three sides and wire on the fourth. It smelt awful...like a thousand birds in the same small hole. A rumble was heard and a huge two leg walked past...then the oddest screech was heard. She cocked her head...surprised that she could understand it. She made her own in reply and jumped violently as she realized she could speak it. Her body was pure white...what an odd place. She shook all over and stared through the wire, staring out at the room beyond. A large bird was in another cage near hers, making the odd sounds. She then jumped as the roof of her small cage opened, a bowl of food coming down. A human hand was placing it down. She didn't dare attack it...As it vanished, the head of a common pidge peeked through a small hole in the wall and smiled. "Hellloooo Wafflehouse."

Suddenly, she was wide awake. Panting as the sunlight streamed in through the hole in the roof. She looked over at the pidge beside her. "Good morning, Waffle House." she said, smiling.

Waffle House shifted quietly beside Rocks. The sunlight was warm and felt good on his mostly white feathers. The only natural color to him was the light gray on the back of his wings.

The strange pidge finally parted his eyes. He heard his name? It sounded funny coming from this pidge, but it was still his name. He had not told her it, that he was certain. He slid on his green tinted glasses and peered at Rocks with a tilt of his head.

"G'morneen' Rawks."

She gave him a soft preen, eyes full of pride and respect for Waffle House. "Waffle...." she said. "Were you...a human pet?" she asked, standing up and picking a small caterpillar from the pile for him.

He focused on her words in an attempt to understand. She seemed different today. It was almost like she seemed to know him.

Pet...
It sounded much like another word he knew. Something his parents used in common pigeon. It must have a similar meaning for why they were stuck in a human roost.

"Yes."

He pecked at the caterpillar, then scarfed it down hungerly.

She smiled and gave him a small preen once more. Waffle House was a nice name. She felt sorry for him. No wonder he had no idea how to care for himself...nor did he have any idea where he was. He couldn;t go home...she would hate the idea of having to live in that box for her whole young life.

"Its ok, now, Waffle house." she said. "you're free to stay here forever now."

"Yes?"

The next bit she said was a little more confusing. He understood that she was speaking about him from you ... And free, that was what he was. He was gone from that place, the human roost. Stay and Now were both words he knew from home.

So he was pretty sure what she meant.

He gave her a grin, but still looked slightly puzzled. He grabbed his pen, which he had left beside the nest, and wobbled a little ways away, until he was sure he could scribble without making her mad... Hopefully.

He had seen the humans using it and he had begun to mimic their actions when he was unsupervised. He uncapped the pen and began to scratch into the floor. It looked something like the box that Rocks had dreamed of.

"This is my home, but I can stay here?" At first he was not thinking and spoke his original tongue, but quickly realized his mistake and switched over.

"Home. No?... Staeee heere, home, now?"

She watched the marker curiously. She had never seen such magic! He didn't seem to be a witch..she looked at the box and nodded her head at the box, understanding. "Yes, that was your old home. You may stay here now. This is your new home with me." She nuzzled him comfortingly.

At her first word of "yes" he seemed to be elated. He grinned broadly and nodded his head. Fortunately this pidge was pushy enough to get him to come with her. This was very good news.

"Gut, gut!"

She smiled. "I have to know though, Waffles, how did you get away from the humans? Did they chase you?" she asked, now a bit timid about her questions.

He listened hard and thought for a moment, then nodded slightly, unsure exactly what to say. He went to scribbling on the timber again with his pen. This time he drew a shape that looked a bit like himself, then a stick figure behind him carrying the cage.

"Yes?"

She tilted her head from side to side, itching it with a talon. She had no idea what he'd just drawn....it looked like a blob in a box with a bad hairday. She shook her head. "I'll just dream about it later, love." She took his wing.

"C'mon! Let's go play!" she said, tugging his feathers gently as she hopped towards a small acorn on the floor. She picked it up. "I'll throw it and you catch, okay?" she had played this with Zorba once or twice.

He dropped his pen to his side and it rolled for a second, before the cap caused it to halt. At first he was energetic as he followed her, but as soon as she produced the acorn he seemed very unsure of himself.

He had no idea what she was talking about!

She smiled and, unknowing that he had no idea what she wanted of him, threw the acorn right at him, laughing as she did so. It was pretty small, but it was hard for an acorn.

His eyes grew wide and his beak parted in surprise. Fortunately he thought well enough to turn his head. He attempted to shield himself with his wings. If it would of hit him in the face, it probably would of broken his glasses. Shards of glass would of been worse.

But it hit his wings, which stung painfully! Why was she throwing acorns at him? Did he do something wrong!?

She paused, noticing the look of pain on his face. She hopped back over. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" she said, a look of emotional pain on her face. "I thought you knew how to play." She reched for his wing to inspect the injury.
