Cheap distractions from economic problems have always done well in bad times. Pay a few bucks and, for a couple of hours, you can forget about how you're probably going to be laid off and your property value has tanked.
Booze is also a safe bet.

It's funny how movies started because of extra leisure time after the industrial revolution and have basically reverted into that state again after having gone through many pahses. If the economy is down, hell don't think about it just escape for a couple hours. Same effect applies for video games too. Booze however, is not so much of an escape but rather it is sort of like an anti-depressant. Except that, usually, if you are turning to booze as an anti-depressant, the opposite effect will occur.
